'Desperate Housewives': Is Chuck Vance the 'Connection' to Mary Alice?

Housewives-Williams-Making

It was a slow week in Fairview. That is to say, ahem, that very little of interest happened on last night’s new episode of Desperate Housewives: Gaby and Carlos’ sex life petered out (literally), and she tried to spice it up with a stripper; Susan morosely moped around town, trying to get in trouble so she could be punished and feel less guilty about the murder she’s helping to cover up with the other ladies; Lynette and Tom bickered about how to raise the kids (and she did one hell of a keg stand); and Renee continued to try to get her hooks into new neighbor, Ben — and it seemed to work. Oh right, and haggy ol’ Karen McCluskey also triumphantly returned to the Lane, woo hoo!

But it was Bree’s storyline that justified the episode’s title, “Making the Connection,” which picked up just seconds after last week’s installment that found Bree discovering the exact same note — “I KNOW WHAT YOU DID. IT MAKES ME SICK. I’M GOING TO TELL.” — in her mailbox that Mary Alice also received back in the show’s epic first season. The “Connection,” it appears, is Bree’s current love interest, Detective Chuck Vance, who should only exist on the series with his shirt off. Turns out that — per a call from the imprisoned Paul Young, whose memory suddenly was jogged — Chuck is the same detective that Paul told about the note during the investigation about Mary Alice. Something is fishy here, eh?

There seem to be a couple of scenarios that could play out. First, there’s the option that Chuck somehow knows exactly what he’s doing and targeted dating Bree so that he could put all the pieces together with her crime, although that’d be rather odd, considering that the pair started dating before Bree helped to cover up a murder. (And wouldn’t he have just arrested her by now?) Or, there’s the simple possibility that Bree now has to completely stay on board with Chuck — despite wanting to break up with him — because he could know something and get all the ladies in trouble. No prison time if she keeps pleasing him, maybe? What kind of world of hurt is headed her way?

But truly, there’s likely a deeper “Connection” here — one that we don’t know about quite yet. That look in Bree’s eyes, though, at the end of the episode — as she was forced to hug the delightfully fresh-out-of-the-shower Chuck — basically screamed: “Help!” Ugh.

What did you think of last night’s episode of Desperate Housewives? Are you intrigued that Chuck is the “Connection” to Mary Alice? What are your theories?

I don’t think the cop has anything to do with the note!

    • Susan Must Die

Yes. As I said last week, it’s about the souflee she burned. Chuck is clearly gay and also he is a bad actor.

      • Theresa

Totally agree; and, he is not good looking at all IMO! Major yuck factor whenever he is on the screen. Why does it seem that all these supposed sexy male lovers on DH are so obviously gay! Oh, yeah, Marc Cherry is the shows creator and his vision is obviously a bit askew.

      • me

Why does it seem that Theresa is living in the dark ages, stating that a gay guy can’t also portray a sexy male lover, and for calling Marc Cherry “askew”?

There IS something askew here, but it is not DH.

      • @ me

Who cares about the actor (who I think may not be gay). The way he acts, the character, appears gay!!!!!! He is not sexy. He is creepy. George Michael is sexy. This guy is the anti-sex. ewwww You are askew.

      • kate

i couldnt care less if the actor playing chuck vance is gay or straight….he is just a TERRIBLE actor. period. it’s gotten so i can’t even stand to see his face or, worse yet, hear him deliver his lines. his voice is nauseating and his unconvincing “tough guy” delivery, with his very unattractive underbite just turns me off. big time! whenever he’s on, i mute the tv and don’t watch his scenes. cannot stand this actor OR character. he needs to go. i don’t know anybody watching who likes him. wish they had buried him in the woods!

  • dee

The cop is a classic red herring.

    • Bree’s forehead Vein

is about to pop. Classic quote from writers who don’t even know how true it is. Susan “So now I’m crazy”? Also dead mary Alice looks a lot older than she did when she died in season 1. How adorable that her past person is aging along with the other housewives, except botoxed Hatcher.

      • lisa

What about her hair? It is noticeably n incredibly thicker than ever!

      • kate

botox or not, hatcher is NOT aging well. whenever you see her face close-up, you can see just how old, wrinkled, she’s looking. and she looks reLly aged around the eyes.

  • J

I think it’s the new neighbor who’s somehow gonna be related to that woman that blackmailed Mary Alice.

    • Snsetblaze

A Tillman/Huber brother perhaps? I don’t think he’s quite young enough to be Huber’s son.

      • lisa

I hope it isn’t Huber, Paul or zach! That would be a big ole bore!

    • Caiti

I think he’s related to Zack’s birth mom. Why else might he be so interested in Mike?

    • SandyLB

That was what I started thinking. I couldn’t figure out how else this new guy, Ben, was going to fit into the story, but got thinking last night that maybe he was the one who left the note. Maybe he is somehow related to Gaby’s stepfather?

  • lisa g.

Im loving this mystery! Good job Mr cheri….seems ur gonna go out with a bang!

    • Susan Must Die Now

I keep waiting and waiting for an interesting or clever story line. Clearly I am insane because it ain;t happening. Lynette and Tom painful. SUsan even more painful.

      • lisa

Well I stopped watching years ago n came back just for the final season so maybe my perception is skewed….lol….it has the potential to be really bad as in the last 3 years but I think It’s good now! I agree about lynette! Tons ok but that lady…..ugh…just her voice irks me. Susan isn’t as bad anymore now that she’s not acting like jack tripper!

      • Momma37

What even happened to him? My dh and I would often give each other guilty grins at the dynamic of their marriage, we often related to them (not including taking in Tom’s lovechild or diving in front of a plane while pregnant, etc).

  • KP

I think it was Susan trying to scare Bree into confessing.

    • dh fan

I was thinking Mrs,mcclumskey….they may make her a villain in the end.

      • Yes

Mc Clumskskey? Yes you are a typical DH fan.

      • dh fan

I could see the show sort of spoofing itself n the end and doing something over the top like that. Anyone see the final episode of the hills?

  • dh fan

And u know dh….they may bring in a new character or an old one may return before this is all resolved…..so who knows who sent the note!

    • Say What

How does Dakota and her size B get a job at a place called Double D’s? And why do viewers not find this a little sad?

  • Ray R

I find it odd that everyone on the seemed to forget that Zach Young also knew about the note. Didn’t he? And he was only back for one episode last season when Mike and Paul put him in rehab. Maybe he got out and somehow learned about the “murder” aka justified defense of others. That seems to be the obvious answer to me, though I can’t really think of a motive, except that he is just a big turd and wants to mess with the people who forgot about him…?

    • Say Hey Ray

Who said the note is about the murder? I bet it isn’t.

      • Zoe

That’s a great point. It’s someone who knew exactly what the original note said. But five of them were involved in the murder of the uncle. Why would the note go to Bree? It seems obvious to me that the note is referring to something BREE did–not the murder. And in that light, there’s a couple people who might know about the original note that we’re not considering, like Orson, Rex (maybe he’s not dead), her kids, or any of her previous boyfriends.

      • dh fan

@say hey ray….I agree! Might be about dumping her trash in someone else’s receptacle!

      • cg

Also really Bree isn;t the main player in the killing so the note clearly is not about that.

  • woody7

where are the dh recaps? I miss them! and since this is the last season, you’d think you would want to keep recapping til the end.

    • No he wouldn’t

This show ended when Edie died. It’s been a hot steaming turd for quite a while.

      • Soldier

        Completely agree!

  • Crazy K

I find it funny that the extras from tonight’s episode were all African American. The garbage man, the security guard, the coffee house girl, all in 20 seconds of airtime. Did they have to add more blacks to the show at least one more time before it ends? Gosh! Didn’t have to be too obvious. Love the show even thou I’m a little appalled and this episode was awesome can’t wait for next week.:)

    • K you are crazy

Was the stripper AA????? No!! Was the cop AA?? No. Were the drunker party goers all AA?? No!!! Grocery store cops??? NO!!! Old lady talking ?? NO!!! Are you an stupid idiot?? Yes!!!!!

      • Seriously

So true! Crazy K, you would have complained if NONE of them were and now you complain that some of them were.

      • dh fan

@ k you are crazy…..great comment! Talk about gross exaggeration!

    • @ Crazy K

You crazy allright. And a racist. I am appalled at you.

      • dh fan

I don’t think he or she is racist…just making an inaccurate observation!

      • @dh fan

“thou I’m a little appalled ” Racist. Why else would you make a stupid comment/misobservation like that. I SEE BLACK PEOPLE. ugg

  • Kinda Boring

Dont think tge note is related to Mary Alice or the murder. Something else Bree did. Either way don’t care much anymore about DH. Ps: Carlos looks hot that’s why I’m still watching.

    • Ed Reed is my Boyfreind

Kind of boring?! Terry H’s neck looks 20 years older than her face. Why are cops running sirens for someone standing in a firelane, but a loud party full of underaged drinkers get no attention?

      • Snsetblaze

The cops in that town have always been portrayed as the stupidist cops on earth.

  • Cassandra

I think this episode was setting up for Carlos and Susan to have an affair SOON.

    • Jen

Cassandra, that’s what I was thinking too. But surely they wouldn’t??

      • Tami

I don’t think Susan would. She has enough guilt on her plate. Carlos might since he seems to be harboring resentment towards Gabby.

    • super slut

i think so too, and the episode title referred to them, not chuck and mary alice

  • nezzo

That Vance is a hottie :)
I remember he played a corrupt defense attorney on Law & Order. And he is of course the real-life hubby of L&O: CI’s Wheeler. Lucky bitch!

  • Tami

I think the letter has something to do with Chuck’s ex. He briefly mentioned how horrible his past relationship was, and how he never wanted to be that guy again. Perhaps the letter was intended for him because he has a secret of his own.
Or maybe it was Felecia, she could have survived, and it would be fitting since her sister wrote the original.

    • OMG

      Two really stupid comments.

  • tonyadams1990

thanks for sharing this post, it was very interesting information for reading!

    • You git Lardariused

Chuck should be out searching for Gaby’s 2 hideous children. I hope MJ doewsn;t get paid by the hour because last night he got about 5 seconds of face time and last week, Nada.

  • kennedyDC

I, for some reason, think the note writer may end up being one of the 4 original housewives. I think their guilt may have led them to act out by writing the note. Instead of sleepwalking, someone is writing notes.

    • jim

This show has jumped the shark

      • dh fan

And Clinton ain’t in office anymore!

      • @jim

Jumped the shark has jumped the shark
