Melissa-McCarthy-SNL

She was the bestest hostess in a very long time!

Absolutely loved McCarthy last night…no matter the material, she committed 100% and had me laughing through the entire show.

Just one note though, it was actually Samberg and Bill Hader leading the Digital Short scene, not Samberg and Sudeikis. I say that because though I agree it was less than stellar, Hader is another actor who makes me laugh no matter the material :)

There are many mistakes in this recap. Apparently, EW doesn’t believe in editors or proofreaders.

  • Snsetblaze

You don’t see too many actresses willingly taking the tumbles on the stairs that she did on that one sketch. Maybe Kristin Wiig would have but it wouldn’t have been the same.

      How do u know?

  • Captain

She was one of the best hosts I’ve ever seen on SNL. Usually a good host can make a bad skit enjoyable but rarely have I seen a host give such a great performance, you actually believe the writing is better than it was.

    • sue d

She elevated the crap that the lazy writers dish out. When she was not in a scene, it was very noticable.

  • Sean

Are you kidding? She was HORRID. HORRID. Didn’t laugh once. She did not deserve the emmy. That SNL was ATROCIOUS.

    • sv

You must not laugh at anything, then.

    • @Sean

You know that comments section sketch was about you right? She did a great job now back off.

      • deedee

I also disagree with your opinion; she was so over the top, it was kind of sad; are you related to her?

      • Squishmar

Well, deedee, she must have a big family–including the writer of the recap. The majority of people posting seemed to have liked her.

  • Scott

i had only seen her on Mike and Molly. I had no idea she was so incredibly hilarious! all her skits were over the top. i am going out to rent Braidsmaids and watch it tonight.

Melissa McCarthy is funny but I have to agree with ‘gforce’ the office worker & Hidden valley ranch skit were the same . instead of trying to get a guy in the office she tried to get $50. The comments section skit was forgettable. Last nights show just wasn’t as good as it could of been. SNL has all this talent but it’s just not using it properly. Its sad that someone who can be funny, is stuck in a one note sketch and is forced to squirt a bottle of liquid in her face to get a laugh.

    • @Doodlebops

Maybe they should ask you to host. Are they doing a nobody- that -anyone -ever -heard- of- theme one day? Thought not. Dude shut the eff up.The show was great.

  • Chelsea

It’s kinda baffling that the most talented members of the cast remain “featured” players while Andy Samberg still gets to muck it up every week with unfunny shorts.

    • Chelsea

Forgot to add that Kenan is by far the WORST cast member. That Tyler Perry impression was painful, as are most of his characters. He just plays himself every single time.

    • Ron Paul

I agree. Samberg’s shorts are terrible. I hate them.

    • sue d

Samberg is nothing unless Justine Timberlake is with him in a skit or short.

  • kim in kentucky

She was great – the skits though, were so-so. Noticed she knew her lines, while the players were looking at the cue cards. VERY impressed at the heels she was wearing in the opening.

  • @Doodlebops

The comments sketch was about you LOSER.people that have no talent but want to anonymously hurt other people that do on the internet that is why you didn’t like it.
“What does your girlfriend think of this”?
    “I don’t have a girlfrind”
“I know I was just kidding”. That sketch was dead on how most guys on these comments boards are.

  • Pete

Great show, Ben Stiller better bring his A game, SNL is two for two this season.

  • Kat

I loved her! And in fact, the Lulu Diamond sketch was my favorite. Nice to see her do a character so different than her Bridesmaids charater. Taran Killiam was awesome, too.

  • gail

Melissa was amazing! Any movie, TV show or skit will be amazing if she is in it! She should be considered the modern-day Lucille Ball! She goes above and beyond the comedic call-of-duty during her live performances and gives just as much on the big screen! i wonder how much actually gets done in a day when you are on the set with her! I bet there are too many takes to count! You would be laughing too hard to get any REAL work done! I am a Melissa fan! And SNL was glad to get her as a host and hopefully she will have a recurring role, especially as a “taste tester”, I have to admit that skit was my favorite! Way to go Melissa!

  • Ron Paul

Whats with those awful digital shorts? They need to axe those because those are not funny. I remember those cartoons that they used to have; those were better. Remember “The Ambiguiously Gay Duo”? That was comedy.

  • Jennifer

I loved this woman on Gilmore Girls!! Never saw Bridesmaids but I know this woman is one of the funniest most talented people I’ve ever seen. She’s fearless! So glad she’ finally getting recognized for her work.
Maybe if SNL would be more open minded about musical guests then Aly would have already known what a great band Lady A is.
