First-ever 'social series' set to launch on Facebook. Will this get you invested in the site again?

aim-high

If your Facebook feed has told you anything as of late — well, besides the fact that a few of your friends are currently contemplating lunch (go for it, guys!) — it’s that a lot of people are none too thrilled with the current and upcoming changes to the social networking site. Some feel that the website is becoming overly complicated and wonder why Mark Zuckerberg is fixing what wasn’t broken.

But like it (sometimes literally, if you feel so inclined to click the “like” button) or not, times are a changin’ on Facebook. In fact, in addition to new features like Facebook Music and Facebook Timeline, there’s now Facebook TV, more or less. Warner Bros. Entertainment announced today that it will soon launch the first-ever “social series” called Aim High on Facebook on Oct. 18 (it was originally slated for Aug. 1.) READ FULL STORY »

Anderson Cooper defends Nancy Grace, throws Wolf Blitzer under the bust

For those who were upset or traumatized by Nancy Grace’s alleged flash dance (for the sake of all of our sanity, I will not use the phrase “wardrobe malfunction”) during Monday night’s Dancing With the Stars, you’re making Anderson Cooper angry. And you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Unless, of course, you were hoping to wind up on his RidicuList. In which case, congratulations, at least someone will emerge victorious from this madness.

During Wednesday night’s Anderson Cooper 360, the host stood behind his CNN cohort (a.k.a. Tom Bergeron’s “Miss Kitty.”) “I’m taking Nancy’s side on this,” Cooper said, regarding Grace’s statement to TMZ that she was fully prepared against any clothing mishap. He also promised “not to break that industrial strength bra strap.”

That’s what friends are for! I think.

Eva Longoria, Tina Fey named Top Female TV Earners by 'Forbes'

What’s the opposite of blerg? Tina Fey won’t be dusting off that classic Liz Lemonism for a while because she was just named TV’s highest-paid actress by Forbes. Fey tied with Eva Longoria for the top spot, with each actress raking in $13 million between May 2010 and May 2011. Fey took the lead for her multitasking role as a star, producer, and head writer on 30 Rock, plus the earnings from her book Bossypants, which just sold its millionth copy. Longoria’s success came not only from her role on Desperate Housewives but also from lucrative endorsement deals with L’Oréal and LG.

Longoria was joined by fellow Housewives Marcia Cross (#3), and Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman, who tied for sixth place with $9 million apiece. Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay and soon-to-depart CSI regular Marg Helgenberger earned a healthy $10 million to tie Cross for third place. Rounding out the group, Cougar Town‘s Courteney Cox and Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy both earned $7 million, and The Good Wife star Juliana Margulies took home $6 million last year.

Scarlett Johansson on hacked nude photos: 'It feels unjust. It feels wrong.'

Scarlett-Johannson

Scarlett Johansson told CNN that she felt wronged by the illegal phone hacking that led to nude photos of her reaching the internet. In an interview about her trip to Kenya and other impoverished areas of Africa with Oxfam, she answered David McKenzie’s question about how she handles the unwanted attention of being a celebrity. “Just because you’re in the spotlight, or just because you’re an actor or make films or whatever doesn’t mean you’re not entitled to your own personal privacy,” she said. “If that is sieged in some way, it feels unjust. It feels wrong.”

Johansson’s attorney acted promptly when nude photos appeared online on Sept. 14, contacting several sites and threatening legal action if the images were not removed. “It’s an adjustment, but there are certain instances where you give a lot of yourself and then finally you just have to kind of put your foot down and say, ‘No, wait, I’m taking it back,’” said Johansson. This Week's Cover: 'The Avengers' -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK!

The whole enterprise is falling apart. Egos, tempers, uneasy alliances and bad attitudes are threatening the group, and failure would be catastrophic. Luckily, we’re talking about the actual team of superheroes in the Marvel Studios movie The Avengers, not the cast and crew. In this week’s issue, EW takes a deep dive into the May 4, 2012 movie that will finally unite Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Chris Evans’ Captain America — along with Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow — on the big screen. We use the word “unite” loosely. “Just because they’re super heroes doesn’t mean they’re super friends,” says Renner. (For some exclusive, on-set pictures of The Avengers‘ superheroes, see our gallery here.)

'Suburgatory' is probably your worst nightmare. So is it worth watching?

SUBURGATORY

With 2 Broke Girls and New Girl already making a splash in the ratings, it was due time for ABC to debut its own smart-yet-adorable lady-led sitcom. Suburgatory, if you can’t tell by the title, is a classic fish-out-of-water story about a Lower Manhattan teenager who (unwillingly) upends her life to the suburbs. She encounters a disturbing non-variety of identical platinum blonde nympho-moms and pink-wearing, Sugarfree Redbull-drinking teens. The only thing more dead than their eyes is their souls. Or so she thinks. READ FULL STORY »

'Revenge': Down with the rich! Did you watch the second episode of ABC's new melodrama?

Categories: Revenge
Revenge-VanCamp

I was a big fan of the premiere of Revenge last week, which found a nice tonal mixture between soap-opera froth and high-melodrama insanity. That’s a difficult tone to hit every week, and I fully expected a drop-off in quality in the second episode. Not so! To my eyes, last night’s episode followed through on creator Mike Kelley’s promise that Revenge will keep things moving lickety-split. In just one hour, the show featured the fall of a Wall Street titan, a post-affair shakedown, a potentially fatal heart attack for a somewhat extraneous character (farewell, lovable poor dad?), and a polo match. I’m definitely intrigued. READ FULL STORY »

ABC's 'Happy Endings': Five reasons to love it!

Happy-Endings-premiere

When Happy Endings premiered last spring, the obvious dig on the show was that it was yet another collection of six twenty-to-thirtysomething friends with a shockingly large amount of free time who spend their half hour on our television nattering comically about their relationships. Which, in fairness, it is. Happy Endings even has a played-out will-they-or-won’t-they premise: A year ago, Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) left Dave (Zachary Knighton) at the altar. But because their core group of friends is so tight-knit — Alex’s uptight sister Jane (Eliza Coupe), her easy-going husband Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.), and their college buddies, kind-of-a-mess Penny (Casey Wilson) and slovenly-straight-acting gay dude Max (Adam Pally) — Alex and Dave have maintained a warm-if-tricky friendship…that may be hiding something more!

Yeah, I know, it’s like network romcom Mad Libs. And yet next to The Good Wife, I don’t know if there’s another returning show I’m more excited about this season. Tonight’s season 2 premiere was a great example as to why. Let me count the ways:

Kardashians to co-host fourth hour of 'Today' all next week. Who else needs a drink?

Prepare yourselves: Next week on the fourth hour of Today, Khloe Kardashian will co-host with Hoda Kotb on Funday, Bruce Jenner on Boozeday, Kris Jenner on Winesday, Kourtney Kardashian on Thirstday, and Kim Kardashian on Dryday. But who will join me when I marathon the shows on KillMyselfday?

You gotta hand it to the Kardashians. If they’re not appearing in the news, they’ll literally make themselves appear on the news. First person to convince me there’s still hope for this world wins permission to destroy my television on Oct. 10.

Andy Rooney's words of wisdom on Usher, Bill Gates, and scotch tape: A tribute -- VIDEO

It’s tough not to laugh watching 60 Minutes‘ “A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney.” After all, this is a 92-year-old man so set in his ways, he refuses to accept the popularity of Lady Gaga on the music charts over the Rolling Stones. Every Sunday, Rooney has hit the airwaves to complain about the mundane, channeling his inner curmudgeon to critique, for example, the mere existence of papayas. And, a good portion of the time, we identified with dear ol’ Uncle Rooney. (Who the heck needs papayas anyway?! Useless.)

Sadly, though, this Sunday, Rooney is going to wrap up his 60 Minutes run with a final “Few Minutes.” (As EW reported yesterday, the TV personality is retiring his weekly segment, but still may return for one-offs in the future.) So, to toast his departure, we put together a clip of some of our favorite Rooney moments from 60 Minutes. Despise modern art? The telephone? Nutcrackers? Watch the video after the jump to commiserate, and marvel in the fact that even in his 90s, he had no intention of ever leaving his walnut desk. Please, oh, please come back soon, Uncle Rooney.    READ FULL STORY »
