Aside from perhaps the go-to Marilyn Monroe costume party get-up, there may be no screen legend more fun to dress up as than Elizabeth Taylor. Even this generation’s biggest stars can appreciate the appeal. Kate Winslet graces the cover of V magazine‘s Fall 2011 “Heroes” issue with a shot that captures Taylor’s look, pearls included. “There was a real fearlessness in her,” Winslet said to the magazine.”Back then, there didn’t seem to be a rule book, and there was some expectation in terms of how glamorous a woman should look. There is sort of a coolness and aloofness to the way [Taylor] would look in posed photographs. In candid snapshots she was really quite soft, and she would really screw up her face. I do that as well.” READ FULL STORY »

Schweddy Balls ice cream introduced by Ben & Jerry's. Good times.
Just in time for the holiday season — and the Sept. 24 season premiere of Saturday Night Live hosted by Alec Baldwin — Ben & Jerry’s has introduced its newest limited-batch flavor, Schweddy Balls. It’s inspired by the classic 1998 SNL sketch in which Pete Schweddy (Baldwin), the fictional owner of Season’s Eatings Bakery, brings his Schweddy Balls to the hosts (Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon) of “Delicious Dish,” a National Public Radio program parody. Watch it again below. The flavor features Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and loaded with fudge covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.
“For a long time, I thought that ‘Here Lies Pete Schweddy’ would end up on my tombstone,” Baldwin says in a release. “Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry’s, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won’t go with me to the great beyond.”
Gasteyer is equally thrilled: ”The Schweddy Balls sketch was a personal favorite from my SNL run, so I am pleased as holiday punch that Ben & Jerry’s has taken it upon themselves to share the Schweddy Family recipe with the world. As a person and a performer, I am a sucker for holiday balls. And I have no doubt this ice cream will cause many to scream ‘Good Times.’”
Is this best limited-batch flavor to date? Or just the best name? READ FULL STORY »
Il Divo set the stage on fire (figuratively) on 'America's Got Talent'
Before the inevitable chatter begins that Il Divo had some sort of agenda while visiting America’s Got Talent during Wednesday night’s results show (They’re outsourcing all of our talent to handsome international quartets! They’re trying to make our youths learn another language by way of dreamy, operatic pop music… and I simply will not stand for it!) let’s just bask in the warming glow — or at least stand in front of those screens with the fire on it like they did — of their performance last night.
Il Divo, or as host Nick Cannon may or may not have inadvertently introduced them, “ill Divo”, is the multi-platinum brain child of Simon Cowell. (Hence, the previous visit to American Idol, as you might recall.) They’re also the group whose albums you have to buy that one aunt of yours who also really likes Charlotte Church every Christmas (26 million aunts can’t be wrong!) READ FULL STORY »
'Tiny Toon Adventures': Did you secretly like some of the Tiny Toons more than the Looney Tunes?
Tiny Toon Adventures is sort of the overlooked middle child of Warner Bros. animation. The series was conceived during the late-80s, post-Muppet Babies boomlet for younger versions of beloved cartoon characters, and the series could never match up to the original Looney Tunes animation. At the same time, Tiny Toon only rarely achieved the full-scale madcap insanity of Warner’s later cartoon Animaniacs. (Much as I love “Particle Man,” I have to agree with John Young that nothing beats the musical sequences on Animaniacs.) Still, I loved Tiny Toon Adventures when I was a kid, for one simple reason: In the heresy of my youth, I liked the one-two combo of Buster Bunny and Babs Bunny much, much, much more than their icon/inspiration, Bugs Bunny. 'Hey girl!' Watch this hilarious, super gay reimagining of the opening song from 'Beauty and the Beast'

Ryan Gosling: Canada's pride and joy comes to Toronto with Hollywood at his feet
Despite never starring in a movie that’s grossed more than $100 million, Ryan Gosling is perhaps the hottest actor alive. His not-Photoshopped performance as a suave ladies man in this summer’s Crazy Stupid Love reminded moviegoers that the understated guy from Blue Valentine and Lars and the Real Girl is a full-fledged Movie Star. Yes, he became a heartthrob after The Notebook, but Gosling 2011 is something new. Gosling 2004 followed up the popular Nicholas Sparks romance with the little-seen Stay and the indie, Half Nelson, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. Gosling 2011 seems aggressively poised to make the leap to superstardom. He fights crime now. He charms the talk-show hosts. And his every kiss is documented. Throw in his two high-profile films — The Ides of March and Drive — screening at this weekend’s Toronto Film Festival, a homecoming of sorts for the Ontario native, and it feels like a coronation. These are the types of leading-man roles that made Robert Redford or Steve McQueen who they were in their primes. READ FULL STORY »
Madonna will not apologize for loathing hydrangeas
Sorry, hydrangeas: Madonna’s just not that crazy for you. Just days after a video of the multi-hyphenate dismissing a bouquet of hydrangeas from a fan went viral, a rep has released a statement regarding the floral spurn, which occurred at the Venice Film Festival. (Madonna was at the fete premiering her film W.E.) Said the rep in a statement to CNN: “She’s entitled to like any flower she wants and she didn’t want to hurt the feeling of the hydrangeas of the world … No disrespect to the hydrangeas lovers of the world but she prefers different types of flowers.”
So there you have it. No apology to you, beautiful hydrangeas that were just hoping for a shot at the sequel to Madonna’s “Love Profusion” video. But who should really be offended? READ FULL STORY »
