'American Horror Story' website warns YoureGoingToDieInThere.com. Check it out... at your own risk!

The website for the chilling new series American Horror Story is called YoureGoingToDieInThere.com. Sure, it doesn’t have quite the same easygoing panache as, say Facebook.com, and it sounds like it could also possibly be a thinly veiled threat from Tamar Braxton, but it’s still a pretty cool site.

Upon entering the site, visitors are informed they can “go behind closed doors to discover the secrets of the American Horror Story house” where you’ll find “artifacts of murder, lust, perversion, and betrayal.” (So, sorta just like your Sims house!) After a stop at the mailbox (you can sign up to have trinkets sent to you via email or snail mail to unlock parts of the website), you’ll be greeted by ghost children, Jessica Lange, and a man on fire who crawls up into the fireplace. Hey, you can’t say they didn’t warn you. This website is called YoureGoingToDieInThere.com, after all. READ FULL STORY »

'2 Broke Girls': Promising series nailed twentysomething poverty. NYC, not so much.

After the chock-full-of-surprises season premiere of How I Met Your Mother and the hyped debut of Ashton Kutcher on Two and a Half Men, CBS rolled out its brand-new Monday night sitcom, 2 Broke Girls, an odd couple tale as old as time… with a young, hip twist.

The influence of creators Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and Whitney Cummings (Whitney) was felt throughout last night’s show, in which a sassy Brooklyn waitress named Max (Kat Dennings, channeling her sassy New York-savvy Nick and Norah character) meets a prissy socialite named Caroline (Beth Behrs) who has fallen on hard times and begins working at her restaurant (and subsequently becomes her roommate).

The pilot for the series, which was named one of the EW’s most anticipated Fall TV shows, managed to both feel comfortably familiar (mismatched pals living and working in New York, quirky supporting characters like Earl the cashier and Ryce the manager, that laugh track) and boundary-pushing. With the promise of an IPO lurking just over the eternal horizon, Facebook is gearing up for some big announcements during its presentation at its developers conference in San Francisco this Thursday. According to Variety, the all-encompassing social network will use the conference — known in Valley lingo as “f8,” as in “fate,” nudge nudge — to announce partnerships with various other services and content providers. Variety notes that Rhapsody and Spotify are likely partners. It’s also a good bet that Facebook will build off this year’s slow-but-steady initiatives into movie and television — including the option to “rent” movies like The Dark Knight and The Big Lebowski. Despite record-ratings for his old show, is Charlie Sheen still winning?

If CBS was worried yesterday about the future of Two and Half Men post-Charlie Sheen, they are breathing easily today. A huge audience of 27.7 million tuned in to see Ashton Kutcher make his celebrated debut on the show’s season 9 premiere last night. But as EW’s Ken Tucker points out, Sheen’s presence still dominated the proceedings — and it wasn’t just because of his character’s demise.

Ridicule Sheen, ridicule Two and a Half Men, ridicule its popularity, but you can’t overlook the role of Sheen’s innate Sheenism in making the show a ratings force. Though Kutcher wields his own supersized off-screen persona and brings his own brand of humor, it remains to be seen whether he can replicate the easy on-screen chemistry with Jon Cryer and Angus T.  Jones that made the show successful. In a world… plagued by violence… where wrestling fans and Broadway geeks thought they would never overcome their differences… only one man could unite them all. That man… was Hugh Jackman. Seriously, though, when did you ever think a WWE announcer would credit a win by saying, “Thanks to the Tony Award-winning” anything? Well, my friends, Hugh Jackman was put on this earth to make dreams comes true, and last night he did just that. READ FULL STORY »

Charlie Sheen sets Twitter ablaze. It's like March all over again!

During last night’s pushing-the-boundaries-of-taste Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, comedienne Amy Schumer delivered a low-blow at the man of the hour, as well as his Two and a Half Men replacement Ashton Kutcher: “You’re just like Bruce Willis — you were big in the ’80s and now your old slot’s being filled with Ashton Kutcher,” she joked.

But Schumer wasn’t the only one to hit Kutcher where it hurt on Monday night. Even his beloved Twitterverse seemed to have turned their back on him, when the social networking website lit up with talk of Sheen and his harsh roast. But Sheen got the last laugh: According to Gigaom.com, social media monitoring group Visible Technologies found that the Charlie Sheen roast, and talk of all things about the tiger blood-infused warlock, garnered upwards of 400,000 tweets, while Kutcher’s debut on Two and a Half Men earned only around 150,000. (One of which he contributed to, with his post, “Man I wish I had the east coast feed so I could watch it with you all… #2.5.”) READ FULL STORY »

Fall TV Tuesdays: What to watch? What to DVR?

It all comes down to a heartbroken hipster and an ex-vampire slayer. For me, Tuesdays have generally been non-essential TV nights (sorry Gleeks!), but that changes this year thanks to New Girl and Ringer, two shows that are as promising as they are different. Unfortunately, they fall into the same time slot, which means one must inevitably end up on my DVR. Find out which one below and then share what you plan to watch on Tuesday nights in the comments!

8 p.m. – 9 p.m.
LIVE: Glee (Fox): OK, so I haven’t been the best Glee fan, but with all the talk about how this season could be the last for some characters, a nightly tune-in may prove worthwhile, no? (Premieres Sept. 20)
DVR: Nothing: Don’t get me wrong, there are some perfectly good shows on during this time-slot (NCIS, Biggest Loser and 90210 to name a few…), but I haven’t been keeping up with any them. Maybe they made it on to your list though? READ FULL STORY »

'8': On the scene at the new, star-studded Broadway play by Dustin Lance Black

For one night only, the stars turned out on Broadway last night to stage a reading of 8, the new dramatization — directed by Joe Mantello and penned by Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk — of Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, the landmark 2010 trial that led the Federal Court to rule Proposition 8 unconstitutional. To say that the night’s cast was star-studded is an understatement; performers included Morgan Freeman, Rob Reiner, John Lithgow, Bradley Whitford, Ellen Barkin, Cheyenne Jackson, Matt Bomer, and Christine Lahti, among many other big names.

A crowd of celebrities, theater lovers, and LGBT rights supporters packed into the small but historic Eugene O’Neill Theater. On the way to find my seat, I spotted Barbara Walters, Jeffrey Toobin, and Fran Drescher, with gay ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson in tow. Amid set pieces for The Book of Mormon, which is currently in engagement at the Eugene O’Neill, the stage was set simply with director’s chairs arranged Inherit the Wind-style to represent a courtroom. The performers walked onstage to thunderous applause READ FULL STORY »

Ryan Gosling lets Conan O'Brien in on a dirty Disney secret

Wouldn’t it be nice if Ryan Gosling made the talk-show rounds at least once a week? Granted, it’s certainly starting to feel that way considering he’s had three movies to promote (Crazy Stupid Love, Drive, The Ides of March) over the past few months, but the guy is one seriously entertaining talk-show guest. Plus, he’s easy on the eyes, if you catch my drift. (Pssst, it means he’s very, very handsome.)

Gosling proved all this once again Monday night when he visited Conan and chatted about, among other things, his gripe with Disney (which, surprisingly enough, had nothing to do with The Mickey Mouse Club.) READ FULL STORY »
