'Glee' premiere ratings down 32 percent from last year. Why didn't you watch?

They probably can’t blame it on the alcohol this time: Glee, which saw its third season debut last night, was down 32 percent in the ratings compared to last year’s premiere episode. With just 8.9 million viewers tuning in Tuesday night, it seems cast member shake-up and evolving storyline fatigue may have scared some former Gleeks off.

I, for one, PopWatchers, am among those who opted to tune out this year. While I loved the first season (honestly, who didn’t?), I couldn’t help but be frustrated with the second season, thanks to uneven or downright unbelievable plot lines. (Even in the Glee universe, it’s really hard to accept the notion that Sue Sylvester would remain gainfully employed as an educator.) Plus, it didn’t help that season 2 ended on a blossoming, if not entirely out-of-left-field, romance between Mercedes and Sam — that twist, in retrospect, seemed pointless after we learned over the summer that actor Chord Overstreet would not be returning as a regular. So much for a cliffhanger.

Of course, these are early numbers. READ FULL STORY »

iPhone 5 could be revealed Oct. 4. My iPhone 3G could die before then.

We have been waiting so long for answers about the much-anticipated iPhone 5, you might as well slap the gadget on ABC and call it Lost. Earlier this year, Apple devotees licked their lips in anticipation, hearing whispers that the iPhone 5 would be released in June. Then August. Then September. Then we lost all faith entirely and wondered, what are we doing sitting here wasting several episodes in The Temple waiting? Will we ever find satisfaction?

Seems we may finally get closure: Sources have told The Wall Street Journal‘s AllThingsD blog that Apple has scheduled its next media event for Oct. 4… READ FULL STORY »

Producers Guild to honor Steven Spielberg: But what took so long?

Steven-Spielberg

Steven Spielberg will receive the 2012 David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures from the Producers Guild of America next January. And while the Guild is falling all over itself to congratulate the filmmaker, calling him “one of the most prolific filmmakers of all time,” whose “continued genius, imagination and fearlessness in the world of feature film entertainment is unmatched in this industry,” you have to wonder why it’s taken the PGA so long.

Spielberg made Jaws nearly four decades ago. READ FULL STORY »

NCIS began its ninth season last night with a bang — three of them to be exact — as Tony’s top-secret mission to “handle” an NCIS traitor ended with him in a hospital trying to remember why blood types were found in the street where he’d been shot in the chest. (He was wearing a vest.) As he recounted his whereabouts from last May to the present to Dr. Rachel Cranston, Caitlin’s sister, we saw in flashbacks how his orders from SECNAV Jarvis played out. In case you got lost along the way, here’s a debriefing: READ FULL STORY »

Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls leaves a bad taste in an American Family Association group's mouth

The American Family Association affiliate One Million Moms is vehemently against Fair Trade vanilla ice cream mixed with a hint of rum, fudge covered rum balls, and milk chocolate malt balls. That can be the only reasonable explanation for their crusade against Ben & Jerry’s latest flavor, the Saturday Night Live-inspired ice cream Schweddy Balls.

Actually, One Million Moms is calling for a boycott of the flavor for because of its “vulgar” title. In the opening paragraph, the group complains, “Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with.” Valid point, “No one can resist my Schweddy Balls” would have been way funnier. READ FULL STORY »

And you thought Chaz Bono was Dancing With the Stars‘ most surprising casting choice ever. Not so! Former POTUS Bill Clinton told Rachael Ray yesterday that he had been approached to be on the ballroom dancing show. “They contacted me once about this,” he admitted. “I told them I didn’t have the time to train for it … so I had to pass.” Still, Clinton admitted an affinity for ballroom. He confessed, “I would like to master the tango,” adding, “Just last night, Hillary said to me, ‘You know, when I’m not secretary of state anymore, we should take dancing lessons.’ So we’ll start with the tango.” Watch the clip below. CBS' new drama 'Unforgettable:' Could it be the next 'Bones' or 'Castle'?

Categories: Bones, Castle, Television

Take a strong female lead, throw in a love/hate relationship with her partner and a couple of good crime cases and you’ve got yourself the next hit series. Am I right? Well, maybe.

Last night, CBS debuted Unforgettable, a new procedural that has some key ingredients in common with the likes of Bones and Castle. Whether that turns out to be a good thing or not is up for debate (and we will debate!), but first let’s breakdown the premiere episode. READ FULL STORY »

'The Daily Show' reports on 'DADT' repeal: 'This isn't an army of one, it's an army of fun!'

Last night, The Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones gave a live — well, lively, really — report from “Afghanistan” covering the news of the historic repeal of the military’s controversial policy Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Drinking a tangerini and dressed in garb that host Jon Stewart could only refer to as “quite a getup,” Jones joked, “The end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has turned our once proud armed forces into a camouflage-thong pansexual bacchanal.”

Actually, according to the report, not much, if anything, has changed — shower rape is still very much illegal, FYI — and Jones was the only one not wearing regulation ankle-length short shorts. As the correspondent explained, the announcement was being heralded in the armed forces as “No Duh, Tuesday.” As for the commanding officer who broke the news? It was Captain Obvious, of course.

Tony Bennett says President Bush confided Iraq War 'a mistake'

Tony Bennett is under fire for telling Howard Stern that President George W. Bush admitted to him that the Iraq War was a mistake. The 85-year-old singer visited Stern’s satellite radio show on Monday to promote his new album of duets, and he shared his encounter with the then-president from the 2005 Kennedy Center honors. “He told me personally that night, he says, ‘I think I made a mistake,’” Bennett said, referring to the Iraq War.

A spokesperson for Bush told NBC News that “This account is flatly wrong … President Bush never said that to Tony Bennett or anyone else.” Watch the clip below. READ FULL STORY »
