Il Divo set the stage on fire (figuratively) on 'America's Got Talent'

Before the inevitable chatter begins that Il Divo had some sort of agenda while visiting America’s Got Talent during Wednesday night’s results show (They’re outsourcing all of our talent to handsome international quartets! They’re trying to make our youths learn another language by way of dreamy, operatic pop music… and I simply will not stand for it!) let’s just bask in the warming glow — or at least stand in front of those screens with the fire on it like they did — of their performance last night.

Il Divo, or as host Nick Cannon may or may not have inadvertently introduced them, “ill Divo”, is the multi-platinum brain child of Simon Cowell. (Hence, the previous visit to American Idol, as you might recall.) They’re also the group whose albums you have to buy that one aunt of yours who also really likes Charlotte Church every Christmas (26 million aunts can’t be wrong!) To promote their upcoming album, the singers put on their fanciest duds and mingled with the jugglers and acrobats on America’s Got Talent‘s stage — they even dangled a couple of floating violin players above their heads for good measure — for their goose bump-inducing cover of Chris Isaak’s classic “Wicked Game,” which just so happens to be the title of their next record. Hey, they don’t call them “The World’s Biggest Classical Crossover Group in the World” for nothing. Granted, they are really the only ones anyone has really heard of, but they sure do sound pretty, don’t they? Watch the full performance below:

What did you think of their performance, PopWatchers? Are you a converted fan or have you always been one? Or… None of the Above? Share in the comments section below!

Wow…does anyone out there program any shows for straight men anymore? Besides espn?

    • Allen

Really Rusty, you’re going with ESPN? Hmmm I guess butt slapping, ball adjusting is just for straight guys…

  • Okiezmom

Loved them!! I’ve been an Il Divo fan since I first saw them on Oprah in 2005. They are amazing singers as well as being true gentlemen.

    • @okie

So I guess u know them personally?

that one guy was SO over spray-tanned – he looked like an oompa loompa.

Every time I read the comment about the fake tan, I want to scream. Carlos is Spanish, naturally darker skin and I think you are jealous. He’s georgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t get past the fact that AMERICA”s Got Talent is being judged by two Brits and a Canadian. Where’s the justice?

  • Nancy

To respond to your asking, I give you my comment to them that I posted on the Il Divo Forum.

    Dearest Gentlemen,
I know that all the superlatives have been showered upon you, however, I must tell you that you four Gentlemen are ABSOLUTE GIFTS TO HUMANITY…..the title “Il Divo” is apropos since your COLLECTIVE EFFECT is an OUTPICTURING of the Divine! Music is mankind’s ongoing, continuous, and unrelenting attempt to RECONNECT TO THE ONE, ORIGINAL, PRIMORDIAL, COSMIC VIBRATION…..GOD!
It is in this spirit that you need to understand that your MUSICAL ARTISTRY is transforming old patterns of human dysfunction and is GLOBALLY uplifting ALL SENTIENT BEINGS.
    Namaste,
    Nancy C.

I absolutely love these men. I’ve missed seeing them in
concert so it was very gratifying to see this video of their
newest song from the Album, ‘Wicked Game”. There has never been four singers like them. Love you guys!

So hey. How come the only comment that EW has on America’s Got Talent these days is about the guest acts? The top four acts are really good stuff, the show is highly rated, and EW is all but ignoring it.

I loved that performance, even with that massive orchestra behind them and the fire effects on the big screen! And they tackled Chris Isaak’s song! It’s more formal, warm and orchestra sounding on their remake, versus the island feel of Chris’ original 1990 song. And wow, their voices sounded powerful!

  • Ceil WilliamS

I love Il Divo. This made me a fan. Their performance was powerful and their stage presence was amazing. They gave me chills. Every performer needs to take notice, this is how it is done. With class and talent, don’t dress and behave like slobs, harlots and thugs. Treat your audience with respect by acting like ladies and gentlemen if you want to have fans.
