Susan Boyle debuts new single on 'America's Got Talent'

Last night, Susan Boyle returned to the America’s Got Talent stage to debut “You Have To Be There,” a new song from her third album Someone to Watch Over Me. Backed by a veritable string symphony and a spectacular light show, Boyle belted the song square in her Les Mis-style wheelhouse and received a solid round of applause after. “I’m so pleased the audience enjoyed the song. I really loved performing that big number. I was also a little nervous introducing something new,” said Boyle. The diva’s overnight success story in the wake of her 2009 Britain’s Got Talent audition will be made into a musical entitled I Dreamed a Dream that’s scheduled to premiere in Newcastle, England, next March. See Boyle’s full performance after the jump.

Sorry Lady Gaga sucks and her music sucks more and more each album.

Done with her! Time to ‘boyle’..

      • Screw it off

Bringing Gaga to this thread is just insulting because she is just so disgusting.

What the f**k does this have to do with Lady GaGa- She must really be on your mind if you have to bring her up. Let’s stick to Susan Boyle’ssong, which was like a funeral march.
      You have to be there
when I die and my life is over?
How sad. If you want to put yourself to sleep, this would be the perfect song. Boring and drab as Susan Boyle herself.

        YOU…have no ear for music…and, DON’T know how to L I S T E N !

    • Theo

People who do not believe in God will not understand the truth of this song. I commend Susan for the courage to sing it on national television when America is turning away from God.

      • wakeforce

        Music for fatties!

      • Kat

Theo, I respect your beliefs and your point of view. I believe in something bigger than I can understand…but this was not a great performance. She has a nice voice, but not good enough to be a professional.

  • JFWilder

    Tanked it. Just god-awful.

  • Grumpster

Someone buys this crap, or she’d not be on there. AGT is just lame.

  • Jethro

Is it me or does this woman lack any kind of emotion or personality. Is it in her contract not to acknowledge or actually say something when being way over complimented by Nick. She said nothing, reacted unfavorably to the way over the top applause, and it was the fans who got her where she is today.

She did nothing to show any form of appreciation!

    • nope

Have some compassion. She’s a shy person from a small villiage who has led a sheltered life. This level of fame might even be hard for a socially adept person to adjust to.

    • Muti

She was brain damaged at birth. Her ability to interact socially is because of her disability, and she has coped as well as anyone would or could.

  • Puh-leeze

What are you babbling about? Ms. Boyle creditably performed a nearly impossible song.

    • ZZZ

and those haters are Gaga’s fans!

    • whalescantsing

she sings like she always does. thats why she didnt win.

  • Jim

For the unitiated, which is almost everybody, the song is from the musical “Kristina,” which is by Bjorn and Benny from ABBA. Out of the show’s context, the song can be a little WTF (the character is questioning God over the never-ending misfortune in her life), but the original version, sung by Helen Sjoholm, is magnificent. Google or You Tube it. Susan did OK with it, but it was significantly cut from the stage version and she rushed through, missed notes and just sort of ended it rather than go for a big finish.

And yeah, her stage demeanor is very uncomfortable…no presence at all.

    • Mark

…I can agree w/you on “that”!

  • Diane

She has a good voice but she sounded terrible last night and, as others have mentioned, she has the stage presence of drying paint.

  • Go Susan

100 xs better than that Lady Copycat named like CaCa

  • Retired Housewife

there is something so genuine in her voice, even she sounds shaky at times, you will hear this on her cd it will be soul taking! Love it.

  • Melinda

Looking forward for her album. Better than garbages that record companies shoving on Billboard 200 and VMA recently.

    • will

i agree vma or crap! no talented hags that think they can sing….

  • INGMA

I cant believe this!! me and my sister just got two i-pads for $42.77 each and a $50 amazon card for $9.

    Ahhh…Talent…finds a way.

  • Carol Ann

Susan is amazing and this song is what people need to hear now. Its inspiring and way to many people in life just give up. We all need to keep on keeping on in life. This song helps!

  • Yyvoone

Her makeover is astounding, and so is her voice.

    • Jethro

Makeover? She looked frumpy and unattractive. Maybe if she had some personality, it will overshine her lack of presence which would make her visually appealing!

  • sketa

    wonderfull song
