Succeeding in business, it seems, is the easy part. Succeeding The Boy Who Lived might be a little trickier — but “Glee” star Darren Criss is up for the challenge.

It’s official: For three weeks this January, Darren Criss will take on the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway production of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, a role currently played by Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe. After much speculation in recent weeks, the Al Hirschfeld Theatre confirmed in a release today that Criss will make his Broadway debut on Jan. 3, after Radcliffe’s run is over, and will continue his Broadway stint through Jan. 22. Kelsey Grammer talks running for office. How would he fare against Alec Baldwin?

Frasier vs. 30 Rock. Dr. Crane vs. Jack Donaghy. In pop-culture geekdom, this would stir the most heated of debates, so imagine what it would be like if Kelsey Grammer and Alec Baldwin were to actually face-off against one another in the political world?

It could happen, considering Grammer, a staunch Republican, recently told The New York Post he plans to get in to politics post-acting. “I have had a great career and extraordinary opportunities. But I look at my political aspirations as that last piece of my life — where I hope to do something good for people and pay back a little,” the star told The Post. Grammer’s rep reiterated to EW, “Running for office is something Kelsey has always considered down the road.”

Grammer also told The Post he’d likely stay in New York and run for office in the Big Apple, in which case he could find himself up against the more-liberal Alec Baldwin,  who has also expressed his aspirations to become mayor. READ FULL STORY »

Me & MTV: A Love Story In 11 Videos

Today is MTV’s 30th birthday, and the good folks at EW.com have asked me to say a few words. Turn up your computer speakers and listen to our story, won’t you?

As you’re aware, MTV premiered 30 years ago today. As you’re aware if you’re old, MTV took a while to go nationwide. The prevailing wisdom, as I recall it, was that such a thing could never catch on. The idea of a 24-hour music-video channel was tantalizing for the youth of the early ‘80s, and the wait for the cable systems in St. Louis to carry it was excruciating.

It reached us sometime in 1983, but my folks refused to get us cable. One family down the street got it, and my strategy was a barter system: I’d trade their kid an hour of play with my Magnavox Odyssey video game console for an hour in their living room in front of MTV. READ FULL STORY »

'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers': Teenagers with attitude, a childhood with joy

Power-Rangers

It was an awkward conversation with my college roommate the day we moved in together. “Are you really hanging that up?” he asked, glaring at my Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers poster. “Of course!” I replied unapologetically. I mean, if I was going to have to stare at his giant Moroccan tapestry all year, he could handle my little Power Rangers poster. (And my WALL•E poster. And my Lost poster. Oh, and maybe my Spider-Man and Pokémon posters, too.) My roommate sort of grimaced, trying his hardest to seem pleasant, and I gave him a similar look of pity — clearly, he was deprived as a child.

After all, what’s not to love about the Power Rangers? Jason, Zach, Billy, Kimberly, Trini, and Tommy were my gang growing up! READ FULL STORY »

EW Rage Box: Dear Facebook/Netflix/others, your 'suggestions' stink

Welcome to the EW Rage Box. Disclaimer: This is not a place for problems that matter (Netflix anger < world issues), just a place to air pop culture grievances that have built up inside our souls and are threatening to burst our nerd fuse. Feel free to vent along!

I recently came to a conclusion: Despite the internet’s best efforts to prove otherwise, it doesn’t know me at all. I’m aware that for most normal people, this is a no-brainer. Of course the Interwebs don’t know me. But why, I ask, do they constantly want to act like they do? Case in point: “Suggestion” boxes. READ FULL STORY »
