'Glee': A Warbler's life involves evading Darren Criss fans, and backstage grape-eating contests

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a Warbler on tour? Well, Titus Makin, Jr. is giving Glee fans a taste of it with The Titus Show, the new four-part web series debuting today on imbee.com (free log-in required). In an exclusive clip from episode 2, which shows the Warblers trapped in a hotel by fangirls waiting to catch a glimpse of Darren Criss and some members engaging in a backstage grape-eating contest. I wonder how many times a day grapes are tossed at concert venues or on TV and film sets with craft services. 'N Sync vs. Backstreet Boys: The great boy band debate

backstreet_boys_nsync

There was a time — 1998, to be exact, when the Backstreet Boys backed out of a planned Disney concert due to Brian Littrell’s heart surgery and ‘N Sync stepped in and became swoonworthy overnight — when I thought I had to choose between the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync. I could appreciate both groups’ music, but I could only care about one of them enough to surf the Web when my computer screen was visible to two coworkers. Looking back, it was probably a lingering effect from my years as a devoted New Kids on the Block fan, which culminated in my high school yearbook being full of classmates wishing me a lifetime of happiness with Jordan Knight. I was a one-group kind of girl.

Thirteen years later, however, I’m still being asked to choose between Backstreet and ‘N Sync. And today, so are you. Join myself and Dave Karger as we take our turn in the ring for EW.com’s ongoing series of pop culture face-offs. We’ll put it to a vote at the end. Ding. Ding.  READ FULL STORY »

'The Dark Knight Rises' vs. the Internet: How has a culture of leaks changed the moviegoing experience?

dark_knight_1

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial opened in theaters on June 11, 1982. It was still playing in theaters one year later. On one hand, that kind of theatrical run is unthinkable today. Too many things have changed in Hollywood: The rise of home video as a cultural phenomenon and an economic necessity, the frontloaded release schedule that values opening-weekend gross over anything else, the rising ticket prices that have essentially eradicated any incentive to see a film more than once in theaters. But in a sense, the modern moviegoing experience isn’t so different. People saw E.T. one year and were still talking about it one year later. Today, the equation has flipped: First, we talk about movies for a full year in advance; then, we finally see the movie, and the conversation essentially stops. READ FULL STORY »

'Double Dare': The eternal allure of getting 'super sloppy'

Double Dare: who can forget it? It was the kiddie game show that put children through challenges such as throwing a football to your partner while blindfolded (oh, and your partner is blindfolded, too) or trying to assemble a Mr. Potato Head toy in less than 20 seconds (tougher than it sounds). There were obstacle courses whose stations included a slide slathered with chocolate sauce, and “The Icy Trike,” in which a luckless young person had to negotiate a baby-size tricycle across a surface slicked with vegetable oil. 'Dirty Dancing' remake: EW.com reader outrage heroically captured in 15 Baby faces

Within minutes of our announcement that Kenny Ortega has signed on to directDirty Dancing reboot, many of you had already echoed my own reaction to the news. (EWWWWW.com.) It struck me violently in the face that perhaps the horror of this situation can best be expressed by the original Baby, Jennifer Grey herself.

Chris Harrison blogs 'Bachelor Pad' season premiere

chris-harrison

When I was told who would be moving into Bachelor Pad this season I had high expectations. Those expectations didn’t come close to the drama and excitement that will unfold over the next six weeks. I remember sitting in the control room that very first night and someone jokingly said, “This is so good we’re going to need a three hour premiere.” We all laughed because in this day and age of ADD, channel-surfing viewers there’s no such thing as a three-hour show. Turns out that little joke became a reality. We had so much to show you this first week it had to be three hours — just think about what we have to show you when things really get good! 'Bachelor Pad' season premiere: 'It's a sex challenge!'

Oh, it’s a challenge all right, but sex really didn’t have anything to do with it. How are you holding up, rose lovers? If you’re like me, you just finished watching the THREE-HOUR season premiere of Bachelor Pad… Just pause and let that statement sink in for a moment. Stay tuned for my full recap later tonight (UPDATE: Click to read Kristen’s Bachelor Pad 2 premiere recap), but in the meantime if you’ve seen the episode — and for the love of Chris Harrison, SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t — let me know what you thought of night one. Was the Jake-Vienna-Kasey clash everything you dreamed it could be? Did you miss Michael Stagliano as much as I did? (Your loss, Holly!) And is it me, or were they actually trying to paint Michelle Money as… sympathetic? As sad as it is to say, I’m hooked, folks. Between this and Big Brother, I am going to be intellectually comatose by the end of the summer. BRING IT ON!

Joel McHale to demonstrate the word 'prickly' on 'Sesame Street.' How perfect is that?

It’s season 42 of Sesame Street come Sept. 26 (check your local listings), and the guest list could not be hotter. Among those on tap: Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Robin Williams; up-and-coming actresses Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, and Amy Adams; Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Rico Rodriguez; Community’s Joel McHale and Ken Jeong; The Office’s John Krasinski; late night hosts Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien; musicians Elvis Costello and Bruno Mars; The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee and Jason Jones; The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki; funny guys Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg; Tony winner Sutton Foster; New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees; the New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony; and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. How’s that for variety?

Which guest appearance are you most psyched for? McHale, according to the caption on this photo, at some point, “demonstrates the word ‘prickly’ with the help of his cactus, pineapple and porcupine pals.” Yes, they look very friendly in this picture. I cannot wait. Sadly, we have no idea what Ferguson is demonstrating in the shot below of him with three chickens, but we love it. We’ve also got a surprisingly dignified portrait of Jeong with Elmo for you as well.  READ FULL STORY »

Guys. Drop everything. It’s time to focus.

Kim Kardashian doesn’t have a first-dance song picked out, and she needs your help.

Kardashian took to Twitter on Saturday to announce that she and her fiancé, New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, still haven’t picked a song for their first dance as man and wife at their Aug. 20 nuptials — and she called upon her Twitter disciples to help her with the decision. “Ok guys please help!” she tweeted. “We still haven’t chosen our 1st dance song! Any suggestions? So many good songs!”

So many good songs! It’s true. But fear not, Kim! We’re here to help! We won’t even mention a certain Sir Mix-A-Lot track that’s probably crossed a few minds already, but our suggestions include Kelis’ “Bossy,” Beyoncé’s “Diva,” and Notorious B.I.G.’s classic “Mo Money Mo Problems.”

The fate of the season’s most publicized wedding hangs in the balance, PopWatchers. It’s up to you: What should song should Kim and Kris dance to in their first moments of holy matrimony?

It turns out I'm still mad at Zack for trying to thwart Kelly's modeling career in Paris

Seeing this shot of Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar hugging it out at a charity event over the weekend reminded me that I still have a lot of animosity towards Zack Morris. (Which sucks, because one-time EW.com cupcake-feeder Mark-Paul Gosselaar in person is pretty awesome.) He tried to take away the most important opportunity of Kelly Kapowski’s feathered little life because he was afraid he was going to lose her. That manipulative bastard!

Do you ever see photos of perfectly nice actor-people and realize you still resent them for something their stupid characters did? That’s crazy. We’re all crazy!

Funny or Die already covered The 10 Creepiest Things About Zack Morris pretty well. So the real point of this blog item, despite the headline, is that you guys MUST join me in reliving Saved by the Bell’s ridiculous modeling montage from season 2, episode 10: “Model Students.” There’s an Arrested Development hidden gem in it for you if you do….  READ FULL STORY »
