Obviously there is an audience for ALL varieties of vamps. Are you seriously against diversification? Are you unwilling to allow a vamp to express his own feelings and stray from the norm? Is everything in your world black and white? I personally enjoy all vampire genre, from the gruesome to, yes, even Twilight. I enjoyed reading the books, but as an adult they were a lit childish for me, but funny. I prefer a J.R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon or Laurell K. Hamilton vampire myself.
Get a grip, have an open-mind and allow the rest of us enjoy whatever we feel like. For a liberal, you sure do like imposing and shoving your preferences down the throats of others. Just saying…the different vampire sub-genres all make money and many people enjoy the escape a movie is supposed to give them. RELAX! Enjoy the show, or don’t watch it!
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s Count Saint-Germain series of novels provides much meat for a flick or more. This count is quite the interesting character, a 3,500-year-old vampire who puts his native soil in his footwear to feel comfortable in the daylight or crossing water for those times he hasn’t fed recently. From ancient Egypt to Nero’s Rome, from a dude ranch in the US West to 6th Century China (or maybe the other way around, chronologically), he is always there to save the day, or the night.
Ikagirl, back atcha. But the most unusual of the lot would be Edward Weyland’s story in “The Vampire Tapestry ” by author Suzy Charnas. Very creepy, very sad, this tale. As a film, it would be more of a slow burn than an action thriller. Done noirishly, it would rock.

I will watch everything with a vampire in it (at least once) and was ready to wait for this on DVD. THEN i heard David Tenent is in it too!?!?! OMFG, I’m there in the theatre for that for sure.
PS: I’m on board with the idea that real vamps don’t sparkle. Damon is my fav TV vamp, followed closely by the Viking because they’re bad to the bone but keep getting tempted by humanity. Was the reason I loved Angel so much too! = )
Yes, totally agree. There’s nothing wrong with giving your vampire a little soul/humanity so long as you do it well, but the recent trend with Twilight etc. goes too far. What makes the whole erotic subtexts of vampire stories so intriguing is that it’s always intertwined with a real sense of danger. Done right, they’re really interesting to explore. But even with Interview with the Vampire, there’s a reason why Lestat is more iconic than…whoever the main guy was.
Love that Fright Night brought vampires back to their most primal and ruthless. Colin Farrell was pitch-perfect as Jerry.

I was on board with this article until the needless and misdirected political reference toward the end.

Another fantastic use of the evil in the vamp is Kresley Cole’s Lothaire. Waiting for the book is painful, but it’s gonna be great!
