Britney WAS fun and interesting with such a magnetizing air about her. But that spirit is long gone. She barely dances, her music hasn’t evolved — at all, and she doesn’t own it like she used to. Christina may be more polarizing and less engaging, but call these two up on a stage in 20 years when they’re way past their glory days — Christina fans will still savor that voice. Britney fans will only have the memories.

I felt that way a bit, because I’m actually a Christina fan (and have been since Genie in a Bottle), but I voted for Britney. I think her songs, videos & performances (especially the 2000 VMAs) are way more memorable, and that was the criteria I would use.
Exactly Mikey. Also I would like to point out that most of the video links in the article are to Christina’s music. I like Britney just fine when I want to fill the background with noise but take her songs and insert some other pop singer into them and the song is the same. When I want to listen to music, I listen to Christina.

Truthfully, I don’t like either of them. They both use sex to sell their music. If I had to choose, I’d pick Aguilera, since she can actually sing. She tends to go overboard in her performances, though, and her voice begins to sound like nails on a chalkboard.

I used to root for Christina in the 90s when they were going at it head to head but since then I picked Britney’s side because a) Britney’s amazing musical comeback after all that drama made me respect her more than ever and b) Christina came off like a horribly self-centered person on The Voice.
How did you use to root for them in the “90s” when neither debuted before 1999?

Christina is a legend. Watch Britney on stage and it’s clear she’s a has-been.
Christina has the better voice, but she does not know when to reign it in. She has to over do everything, singing, her makeup, her hair, drinking, etc. Britney just has this appeal that Christina does not.

Oh right, because MTV isn’t simply using Britney for ratings again. Britney will never get a tribute anywhere else other than the VMA’s, unlike Christina, who one day, will receive one from the Grammy’s. The Voice is the #1 show on NBC and Christian remains more respected by legends and the industry than Britney will ever be. Sooo, have fun watching your pathetic Britney tribute, where the performers will undoubtedly outperform Britney in every way.
Britney is no doubt the better of the two. You never ever see a respected artist go on reality tv. Unless they are a has been or one hit wonder! Britney is the winner hands down. How many of christinas last albums tanked? When was her last number one song? Oh yeah, years and years ago. Britneys impressive fan base gives her number one after number one hit, and after 7 cds she has all but one open #1 and that is a record. She has triple the fan base, triple the looks, and she doesn’t need to go on a reality show to prove she is still around, she has her most recent #1 cd and her singles which are still on the radio all the time. Britney vs Christina was never a question of who would win, but why britney dominates!

Lol. Are we forgetting about Britney’s short lived flop of a reality show about her relationship with Kevin Federline on the UPN of all places? Probably. I know most people did, it was so terrible. And try telling that line about respected artists to Cee Lo, who just came off a huge year.
Christina has only had one album that sold poorly. Let us not forget that not too long ago Britney was in a similar position when she released that CD when she was about to go in the nuthouse. Even her most recent CD hasn’t done too well. It’s been out for months and it still hasn’t even broken 1 million in the U.S. Britney isn’t even close to being a top tier artist that can compete with the best of them anymore. People feel bad for her and find her lost little puppy act as endearing, so they don’t bust her chops as much. Any modest successes she’s attained lately are from coasting on the good will of the work she did in her prime. Britney only just tied Christina for number ones this year after how many years in the business? That’s right. Let’s not get pretend that Britney is somehow above anything that Christina has done, because she isn’t. When it comes to being a serious and seriously talented artist, Christina wins every time. And that’s really all that needs to be said.
You may think your right. However to defend what i said, cee lo green is the exact person i was meaning when i said one hit wonder. But this isn’t about him. Any body can sing, some are good and some are decent. But even if your the best in the world you have to be able to sell it! Hence: when britney was going through a tough time, it made for a good cd, actually critically her best and that’s when she wasnt at her peak, yet she still had that! Her ability to bring it! Christina can’t really be having such bad years huh? Well with no number one albums or bonefide hits, I don’t understand. I think shes alright sure, but to make a pop icon isn’t who has the best voice. It’s who can sell it. And actually if you think britney can’t sing and she’s horrible, how is it that she can still sell it better? That, in my opinion takes more talent then having a better voice in some opinions, and can’t do much. Obviously britney interacts with her fans more, and has a much much bigger fan base. Otherwise she wouldn’t be selling millions more copies then Christina. Numbers don’t lie! So put that in your pipe and smoke it!
And also chaotic was a reality show when she was still fine and about her life, going on a reality show for publicity just to look flimsy and unprofessional is an obvious look at me Im still here plea from christina, well britney has always been there! And no one forgets that!

Also, Britney NEVER interacts with her fans, in fact her fans pay 1000 bucks to meet her and she doesn’t even give them hugs or touch them. She stands there looking terrified. Her team runs her twitter for her and you never see pictures of her signing autographs or anything. Christina ALWAYS stops to sign autographs and has even written a song “Thank You” for her fans that she put on Back to Basics. Seriously. youtube videos of Christina stopping to sign autographs and take pictures with fans from the last year and a half and you will find MANY. So, you imply that because Britney sells better, this must mean she can sing better? I guess when ‘Who let the dogs out’ sold more than Britney’s singles back in the day, that meant they sang better than her? Or because Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ got so many hits on Youtube that she must in some way be better that other real musicians because the ‘numbers don’t lie?’ Britney fans always focus on sales because it’s all they have to defend her with.

Only her managers sign off when they are on. But for someone who doesn’t like her how can I expect you to know anything RELEVENT! do you follow Christina and see that she signs all these autographs and she had such a low.profile Twitter account if that. I agree with what you are saying but the poll specifically uses the word “diva” and that implicitly denotes “great singer.” In that respect, obviously, Christina wins..take out that word and Britney wins, hands down.
Honey, no one but Britney’s insane fans call her Godney and if in fact you DID publicly call her this, for whatever reason, in front of a normal, non-britney worshipping person, they would laugh at your or think you were crazy.

Christinas latest album tour got done early because low ticket sales. Beyonces latest album is doing mediocre, no hits. I havent heard any on the radio. I heard 3 yesterday alone of britneys. Her femme fatale tour sold out every single seat. Also, people aren’t stupid, they buy what they love, hence that’s why britney spears is still number one!
Beyonce’s album is selling at the same rate as Femme Fatale, and that is without any radio hits. Of course Britney’s tour will sell out, but so will Beyonce’s…and hers will sell out for four or five nights in a single city as opposed to Britney’s one sold out night at the Staples Center. I love me some Britney, but comparing her to Beyonce is like comparing Paula Abdul to Tina Turner…there is no comparison. Beyonce is the Queen…she has EVERYTHING….the looks, the grammys, the hits, the album sales, the performance value. There is no one like her who will top her as far as vocal ability, dancing ability, music videos, awards, etc.
It wasnt due to low ticket sales whatsoever the tour was the 2nd biggest selling tour on the website that was selling the tickets, it was due to inadequate rehearsal time she literally had a month and a half to rehearse which wasnt enough time to put together a show of the caliber she wanted as she likes her shows to be theatrical her b2b tour was being put together a year or so before the B2B album was actually released. She doesnt get people to organize the tour for her she does it herself shes the creative director of her own tours, she likes to plan everything down to the last detail the costume designs everything. Im just saying.
Diva!… your comparisons are a little off. I’d say Britney has already surpassed Paula Abdul by far as a cultural influence and in terms of success, in contrast, you’re a bit premature in likening Beyonce to Tina Turner. Not quite yet. If she can keep it up for awhile longer… the comparison will be apt. It does appear she is on her way!
@Diva, Britney has played cities several nights in a row as well. Ur either delusional or haven’t bothered to collect all the facts. On their last tours Britney had 75 dates and grossed 96 million. Beyonce had 130 dates and only grossed 103 million. Britney’s Circus tour was the 5th best-selling (not highest grossing, but best selling) female tour of all time. Also Britney is the the best-selling female artist of the new millennium and the 8th best of all time. Beyonce is truly talented, but she’s only the queen of contemporary R and B. That’s it.

Exactly. I love both, but if I were to judge solely on vocal ability and stage presence, X-Tina would win hands down. Britney was a great performer, but her latest performances have been mediocre at best. XTina slowed down a bit too, but she still knows how to bring the house down. Both artists bring something different to the table. When I think of Brit, I think of Janet & Madge. In Christina’s case, vocal powerhouse Divas Mariah & Whitney come to mind. Both artists are great in their own right. Would love for them to collaborate on a song or Grammy performance. Now that I think of it, neither of them have been part of the VH1 Divas line-up….OMG that would be so cool!!!!

Neither. What an awful choice to make. Glad I’m not from a generation represented by this choice. Aguilara is a talented singer, but that’s the best from that period? Blech. And Spears is a pure creation of marketing/consumerism driven pop at it’s best (worst?).
