I can’t get Selena Gomez out of my head. And I really, really, really want to. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against the Disney pop princess or her inane dance song “Love You Like a Love Song.” I just seriously want to stop hearing/humming/even-partially-liking it.
But if you’re a parent of a tween girl like I am, you’ve probably spent a fair amount of time with the family TV stuck on the Disney Chanel, which manages to play the video for the song what feels like countless times over the course of an hour. I’ve seen the video — with its references to generations past – just once, as a conscious choice to stay up on what the kids are watching (sigh). But between the kids replaying the shows (yes, they still do that as tweens) and radio plays, it feels like I’ve heard it or pieces of it against my will innumerable times. Now I’m sitting at my desk humming it. Embarrassing.
It reminds me of a time when I was in high school and I caught my mother singing/rapping “The J, the I, the M, the M, the Y, the J, the I, the M. It’s Jimmyyyy, It’s Jimmy…” in the kitchen. I cracked up knowing she had no idea what the Boogie Down Production song meant, only that she’d heard it playing out of my room countless times and it was stuck in her head. I’m shuddering now thinking how quickly I’ll become the clueless one. (Shhhhhh. You don’t need to tell me it’s already happened.)
What’s your current/worst kid-sponsored earwig?

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez crash wedding

I’ve had both of Selena’s past songs Who Says and Love You Like a Love Song stuck in my head. It’s embarrassing but I actually have really grown to like her.
haven’t we all…haven’t we all..*sigh*
I get “Naturally” by Selena stuck in my head way more frequently than her current stuff. It’s still what I think I’m going to hear everytime I stand in the entertainment section of a Target.
Who Says always gets stuck in my head!
“Best of Both Worlds” by Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. I used to hate Miley, and eventually grew to like her, but that damn song is awful.
The other day me and many of my co-workers randomly got Justin Bieber’s Baby stuck in our heads to the point that we were singing it out loud, all because someone passed my car jamming out to it on my way into work and I told them about it. I would like it if that did not happen again.
I always get kid songs stuck in my head. Especially Big Time Rush, I am constantly singing or humming their music because my younger siblings watch the show and play the CD constantly. Also, Phineas and Ferb music.. TOTAL EARWIGS!
I do this to myself, I download a sing “for the kids” and then fall in love with it for a week. Victorious, Big Time Rush, Selena and Miley all fall into this category. I WILL NOT give into my 7 year old’s Bieber obsession, but the bad news is that I think of HIM every time I hear Selena sing “Love Song” anyway…
i sing my baby takes the morning train all the time except i sub the word poop for train..it rocks! and always brings a small to those on subway
The theme song to Good Luck Charlie gets stuck in my head for DAYS
I got this stuck in my head for a while when watching My Babysitter’s A Vampire and usually when thinking, did the Disney big wigs really watch this show before they bought the rights, then I find myself humming this song? I have shamefully downloaded both the them to Victorious and Freak the Freak Out (I hide my ipod when these come on). Randomly, the cure for earwigs? “There’s a hole in the bucket dear Liza, dear Liza, there’s a hole in the bucket a hole” and if you remember the rest of verses, keep it going. It works because the song does not have a natural rhythm.
“somebody to love” by justin beiber & usher. also, the theme song to that nickelodeon show “victorious.” both courtesy of my 10 year old niece. thank god she makes up for this by being a huge fan of the beatles and jimmy eat world.
I had a Phineas and Ferb song stuck in my head for like a month but i was surprised that wherever i started singing it, people started singing a long…it was the Gitchee Gitchee Goo song
LOL the gitchee gitchee goo! i love that song.
I’ve gotten a few of the Phineas and Ferb songs stuck in my head at various times. The two I remember the most are the “watching and waiting” song from the episode where they’re trying to figure out where the inventions go to when their mom comes home, and the love song Doofenschmirz and his date sing in the one where they boys open a resturant “when our evil armies march/to the beating of our hearts…”
Yes, I will also honestly say that I like that song too. It keeps playing re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat in my head.
I don’t mind any of Selena’s songs, and I’m kinda digging Victoria Justice’s as well, but for the longest time I could NOT stop singing Miranda Cosgrove’s Dancing Crazy! Of course the most impressive part of your article is the reference to BDP! So I’m not the only Gen X suburban mom with fond memories of 80′s rap (that’s not Run DMC of course).
Wow, wasnt expecting to enjoy that as much as I did.
Mine is not a song but that stupid Target commercial where the guy is playing the keyboards while singing about things your child needs to buy to be cool for school, and he keeps repeating the word denim. I saw it this morning and it’s been playing in my head all day. Make it stop!
I’d take anything by Selena Gomez over ‘What’s gonna work? Teamwork!” refrain from the Wonder Pets cartoon from Nick, Jr.
