    all these dancers are amazing…..
and, yes, sometimes the choreography given might not be as appealing as another…no matter how well the dancers dance.
    it is what it is..
as to the comments on melanie dancing within her own genre…i disagree….she is, imeo, (former ballet/broadway dancer now teacher here) able to handle anything and everything thrown at her.
yeah, i know, nigel made the comment a few weeks ago about her getting her style often…..still…her ballroom, broadway, even hip hop with the amazing twitch as her partner…she more than held her own.
melanie is more than capable of getting any job, in any genre, that she goes for.
    she is the whole package!

You don’t seem to know to much about ballroom. That stuff Melanie got was either weak (tango) or watered down (“waltz”).

I thought Sonya’s piece was AMAZING. I thought it was definitely a risky move, but I think it paid off. It was almost abstract, darkly romantic (Byronic in essence) and original. It was just so powerful and perhaps one of my favorite pieces on the show ever. Up there with “The Garden.”

I’m surprised that somebody suggested that the judges have been “shoving Melanie down our throats” when I thought it was clear that they (especially Nigel) were in fact trying to shove Ryan down our throats. (thereby justifying Mia’s absence this season). Took them FOREVER to finally get the message that we were not impressed.
I had hoped Jess would have made the final as he’s a terrific little entertainer, but the final four are the right four I think.
I also think that part of Sasha’s popularity is more due to her relationship with her sister than dance excellence. She’s good, but she’s does have problems partnering sometimes. You ALWAYS know her personal opinion of her dance partner by her performance which she’s just not quite mature enough to get past. The other three finalists…man….I feel they always are able to immerse themselves into their dance (and partner).

I agree with you, I miss MIA. As for Sasha I dont personally like her and I agree with you on the partnering. I think she is so fake!

      • Squishmar

If you agree with her about the partnering then she can’t be fake like you say. Irishrose was saying you can always tell how Sasha feels about her partner and can’t overcome it if she dislikes them… therefore… not fake. Honest to a fault, I’d say (even though I don’t entirely agree).

I agree with Mary- the season has flown by but for me, not in a good way. I don’t feel vested in any of the dancers (except Sasha and Jess). I feel like the competition just got started at top 10. But enough griping about that. What upsets me is that there will be no all-stars on the tour! Glad I didn’t get tickets yet. I want to see Sasha and Kent, Melanie and Neil, and other fantastic all-star and contestant dances. Even if they only bring a couple of them, come on! There’s not a whole lot of point to me going without them being there. There are only maybe 3 or 4 dances that were competition partners, and unfortunately they were the same partners over an over, that I think are worthy of the tour. Lots of group numbers I’d like to see, but I won’t be spending the insane amounts of money for tour tickets without knowing I’ll see some of the best dances, which were with the all stars. :(

I am clearly in the minority this week as I really enjoyed the Waacking routine. I thought it was a nice change from all the contemporary (which can be great but this season has been far too heavily featured in the genre pool IMO). I thought Sasha did really well and Ricky was good in sections and just not quite right in other sections.

Yes I was sad to read that article stating this was the worst season ever. There have been some wonderful moments this season. I was really sad to lose Iveta and Nick so early and I think the first week’s non elimination set that sequence up sadly. A gift that did not return a great outcome. Next season )I love this show and want more seasons I do hope that all contestants get variety in their styles. I have always thought that these “Hat pulls” for the top 20 to top 10 should not have the genre that the contestant pulled allowed back in! I do love the All Stars and seeing these talented dancers back on the stage. It certainly upped the performances when they arrived. I have alos enjoyed the rotating 3rd judge seat. While not all the 3rd judges were decent many were and I think once some of them starting critiquing Mary and Nigel stepped back up again and were less platitude giving in their comments. I love positive comments as these kids are all talented but if I can spot an error then don’t gloss over these things.

Love this show; and Mary Murphy is one of the top reasons!
Your heartfelt critiques and exuberance are just simply wonderful. I have viewed the show since the beginning; and I have enjoyed every season. I also watch the Canadian version and I am wowed each week by their fantastic talent. Mary I want to wish you the best and continued success.

I truly feel this has been the best season yet! Melanie is the best dancer they’ve ever had on the show with Sasha not far behind. The All-Stars have been utilized perfectly this year and the celebrity judges (with the exception of Carmen Electra) have been terrific. Also, top notch choreography. Nappy Tabs and Travis Wall, in particular, have hit it out of the park.

Amazing season, Mary! Keep up the great work!

    • D

Sorry, I don’t think Melanie is the best ever. *Maybe* if you want to limit it to just female contemporary. You are not going to tell me she is better than Alex F. Wong, Danny, Will, etc. Sasha is REALLY not the best ever.

  • Janette

Melanie was my favorite at first. Now I’m all for Sasha and/or Tadd. Both are very versatile dancers. Melanie’s hiphop was just ok, not really good and what turned me off was the judges were singing her praises when she looked ackward/uncomfortable doing it. If they had given her constructive criticism, I wouldn’t have been turned off.

    • Jslo

Is it Melanie’s fault that the judges have sung her praises all season? Your reasoning that we shouldn’t vote for her because of that is silly. She is flawless and clearly one of the best the show has ever seen.

  • Squishmar

First off, if Mary reads these or someone reads them and conveys them to her… I want to say, Mary, you looked absolutely stunning Wednesday night. (That was the night of the deep cleavage, yes?) I loved you showing off your beautiful decolletage.
Now, what a shame no all-stars on the tour. Does this mean dances like the Sasha/Kent piece might be recast or will they not be showcased? That doesn’t seem right because then you’d be limited solely to dances done before the all-stars came in. But what a shame not to see tWitch do that great hip-hop with Sasha!

    • D

The contestants STILL did dances with one another after the all-stars came in, every week. Like Caitlynn and Marko’s contemporary, Sasha and Ricky’s wacking, Melanie’s and Sasha’s jazz piece, etc. etc.

      • Squishmar

Duh! You’re absolutely right. Of course. But there were a several great routines (Sasha/tWitch; Sasha/Kent; Melanie/Pasha’s waltz; Clarice/Robert’s Bollywood) that really stood out as possible dances to be showcased on tour.

  • pat

I agree with Terry C, I am so tired seeing contemporary and hip hop routines, it is very predictable, the lifts, the spins etc and the same old themes on relationships between man and woman. Why can’t the choreographers be a little more creative with their themes, show some individualism.

  • Steven

Mary I am so glad you came back to the judgubg panel this season. The show was not the same without you.
I really enjoy the new dance styles on the show and there are many others that can be explored. Thanks for this season.
