Mila Kunis proves women can be sexy AND funny

Typically the cover for GQ‘s Comedy Issue has been reserved for a goofy jokester (Zach Galifianakis, Seth Rogen) rather than, say, a scantily clad sexpot (unless, of course, you count a nude Sacha Baron Cohen, which we most certainly do) like Mila Kunis. Then again, Kunis effortlessly pulls off both feats. (She’s really making it downright impossible for anyone to dislike her, isn’t she?)

Still, it’s not easy being funny and beautiful, as the Friends with Benefits star, who opted out of pants for the cover, told the mag, “You have no idea how hard it is for a woman in this business. A lot of people don’t even think women are funny. It’s f—ed-up, but you have to deal with guys like that. I’ve learned to roll with it.”

No kidding: Over the years, Kunis, who was subbed during Oscar nomination season for her work in the decidedly un-funny Black Swan, has held her own in popular sitcoms (That ’70s Show, Family Guy) and on the big screen (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the upcoming Friends with Benefits). But other women in the industry haven’t been awarded such luck. Says Kunis, “The bottom line is if you’re an attractive female in this industry, people just take you as that: attractive. People aren’t getting the opportunity to move beyond being attractive.” READ FULL STORY »

Jon Stewart nearly loses lunch over 'News of the World' hacking scandal... and Hugh Grant's role in it

Categories: The Daily Show

When Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show last night, he was met with some news that disturbed even the veteran cynic. British correspondent John Oliver filled him in on the twisty series of sordid events that have come to light in the midst of the hacking scandal at Rupert Murdoch’s now-shuttered News of the World. Having heard his fair share of corruption stories, Stewart entered the story in good humor. But the anchor’s stomach soon began to churn when he “learned” that NOTW had hacked into 13-year-old murder victim Milly Dowler’s phone. That ill feeling, however, soon shifted to “a schadenfreude-orgasm” when Oliver introduced our unlikely hero: Hugh Grant. As we reported, the acting Prime Minister in Love Actually, himself a victim of phone hacking, went undercover to expose the paper’s underhanded tactics. “That’s right,” declared Oliver, “the guy who got car head from an L.A. road prostitute is now the moral compass of my nation!” Clip after the jump. Jake Gyllenhaal on 'Man vs. Wild': Top 5 Moments

On last night’s season premiere of Discovery’s Man vs. Wild, Bear Grylls took Jake Gyllenhaal into the snow-covered mountains of Iceland during a blizzard that shut down local airports for two days of adventure. Gyllenhaal wasn’t as much of a walking quote-machine as Will Ferrell was in 2009 (relive those highlights here), but he was arguably even braver. Below, the top 5 moments:

Jake and Bear cross a freezing river shirtless. Man vs. Wild fans know that Bear has no problem stripping down for such crossings — that way he can keep all of his clothes dry and put them back on after doing some nude calisthenics. It seems to me that if the situation didn’t warrant full disrobing, they probably didn’t need to get Jake shirtless. Though I suppose it could have just looked a bit unnecessary because the water never came above their waist and no one fell in. (How cute did they look holding hands?) “It takes balls,” Bear said of the crossing as they redressed, shivering. “Well, they’re right up in my throat right now,” Jake answered.  READ FULL STORY »

Emma Watson compares American and British 'Harry Potter' fans

Emma Watson stopped by for a chat with David Letterman Monday night before the New York premiere of the final Harry Potter film and explained the difference between fans in America and England. The reserved Brits, she said, are more likely to give you a “Well, that was very good,” while “warmer” Americans tend to go with an enthusiastic “That was awesome! That was awesome!” (Apparently, some of us also still pretend we’re in Arsenio Hall’s dog pound.) Watch the exchange below. She’s a smart girl and doesn’t fall for Dave baiting her into agreeing that Americans are dumb. She acknowledges that fans, like the actors, are “weirdly emotional” over the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. Check out Lisa Schwarzbaum’s review of the film, along with our gallery of red carpet pics from the premiere. READ FULL STORY »

Bill Maher disses Sarah Palin (but says she could be prez) on 'Piers Morgan,' compares Republican voters to Casey Anthony on 'Real Time'

During his appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight Monday, Maher told the CNN host, “I never say anything purposefully to piss people off. But I say what I feel, and that will piss a lot of people off.” That could be an understatement. On Friday night, Maher used Real Time to address the controversial Casey Anthony verdict — and compare Republican voters to the much-aligned jurors in the case. Speaking about Republican tax policy, and how it affects the middle class (a demographic that makes up a large faction of votes for the party), Maher said, “[Half of U.S. voters] say, ‘I’m with the party that cuts all these programs for real people, for the 99 percent. Planned Parenthood, environmental protection, college, health care, infrastructure, but holds the line on private jets.’ Voting for them is as stupid as voting not guilty for the mom who lost her baby for a month and went looking at a wet t-shirt contest.”

But, as expected of Maher, the comedian only had more to say about the party who he claimed on Real Time “got on the short bus to crazytown” during his Piers Morgan tonight appearance last night. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette' episode 7

Chris-Harrison

The hardest thing for me about writing these blogs is deciding where to start. This week I have been debating, do I talk about Emily’s interview first or the episode itself with Ashley? I decided I’d give you a few thoughts about Emily at the end of the blog. Our final big stop on this crazy travel leg of this journey across Asia is Taipei, Taiwan. The week before hometowns is a bit awkward, and always a tough one every season. Most of Ashley’s relationships have moved forward to the point where they are ready to be exclusive, or as exclusive as the show will allow. So the guys are done living together, done seeing each other go on dates with Ashley and done with group dates. With all that said I started off the week by giving the guys a little good news that there would be three one-on-one dates with no roses on the line. This always takes the pressure off those dates so they can just enjoy without worrying if they’ll be sent home at the end of it. READ FULL STORY »

'The Bachelorette' episode 7: 'What the f-- is going on?'

Good question, rose lovers! And if you’ve seen tonight’s episode (SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t), you probably shouted the exact same thing at your TV when Ashley revealed to her suitors that their group date would be… taking fake wedding photos! I mean, who does that? No one, that’s who! Still, I’m not hating on tonight’s episode, especially since we got to hear the lowdown from Emily about her break-up with Brad. (Emily for the next Bachelorette! No hair extensions, please!) Also, there was one dumping over dim-sum (the best kind) and JP had a hissy fit. (Calm down, Smarmy McBuzzcut!) What did you think of Ashley’s adventures in Taiwan? Post your comments below, and stay tuned for my full recap later tonight. (UPDATE: Click to see Kristen’s Bachelorette episode 7 recap and Chris Harrison’s Bachelorette blog.)

Mila Kunis: Officially the coolest celebrity on the planet

Mila Kunis earned major street cred (like she needed any more) by apparently accepting an invitation from a fan to this year’s Marine Corps Ball. Sgt. Scott Moore, who is stationed with the 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines in Musa Qalain, Afghanistan, took a leap of faith when he posted a quick video on YouTube last week asking the Friends with Benefits star to the annual soiree.

According to Fox411, a reporter asked Kunis at a recent event if she’d seen the video. She hadn’t, but Benefits co-star Justin Timberlake vowed to make it his mission to get her to view the viral invitation, urging, “You need to do it for your country!”

Eventually Kunis has gladly accepted, saying on the red carpet, “I’ll do it.”  The event will be held in Greenville, North Carolina, this November 18. You can watch Sgt. Moore’s invite below:  READ FULL STORY »

New 'Muppets' poster begs you to rank the Muppets by how much love they're making to the camera

The international movie poster for Disney’s The Muppets (Nov. 23) features…the Muppets. It was a great call! The world is a rainbow of color.

Now that I’ve been staring at these beasts for a solid few minutes, I think I’ll rank ‘em in terms of how much love they’re making to the camera.  READ FULL STORY »

The critics have spoken on the final 'Harry Potter' film. And the verdict is...

The first reviews for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 are rolling in, and the verdict is… overwhelmingly (and unsurprisingly) positive. David Yates received across-the-board praise for his directing, as did the ratcheted-up action and the satisfying conclusion to a 10-year franchise. EW’s own Lisa Schwarzbaum declared, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 is proof that authentic movie excitement is its own form of magic. Half the spell-casting formula lies in what the audience itself brings to the eighth and final movie made from J.K.Rowling’s culture-shaping literary epic…. This is an ending suitable for The End.” You can check out more critical responses to the film below: READ FULL STORY »
