Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick reunite to talk ESPN movie

Ever since 20th Century Fox decided to turn that 745-page ESPN oral history into a movie, everyone has been speculating who will play their favorite quippy on-air personalities like Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick. Even Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick. The former SportsCenter tag-team partners reunited last night on Olbermann’s Current TV show and had some fun casting themselves and their former co-workers. It was only semi-serious, with Olbermann using the game as an opportunity to take pot-shots at his perceived former rivals. When Patrick suggested Ryan Gosling for dashing Craig Kilborn, Olbermann replied, “That’s alright, but he’s too talented [to play the role]” and suggested Kilborn’s Daily Show replacement, Jon Stewart, instead. Mostly clear skies and a chance of nip-slip: Fabio turns in a sultry weather forecast

And you thought there was no Santa! Well it’s Christmas in July for Fabio fans (all, ummm, six of you) who have been gifted with not one, but two sightings of the Italian stallion this week. After the new Old Spice Guy went pec-to-pec with old Old Spice Guy Isaiah Mustafa, Fabio turned up on the weather forecast of a CBS affiliate in Portland, Ore. Other than the trademark wind blowing through his silken locks, it was hot, hot, hot. See the full sun-thanking, Canada-apologizing, rain-casting clip after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

'The '90s Are All That': TeenNick tells us what's next. Which '90s shows do you want to see return to TV?

Clarissa-Explains-It-All

This week, TeenNick launched its “The ’90s Are All That” midnight-2 a.m. block to strong ratings. The retro roster inspired a wave of nostalgia in college-age and older viewers, who remembered growing up under the influence of the fashion sense of Clarissa Darling, the good-kid-done-wrong ethos of Doug Funnie, and the slapstick stylings of Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. But beyond Kenan, Kel, Clarissa, and Doug, who will be next to to burn the midnight oil? READ FULL STORY »

HBO wants 'Game of Thrones' to run for 20 years. Do you think the show can sustain a long run?

As a general rule, the best TV shows don’t last very long. The whole apparatus of television production inexorably trends towards creative entropy: The original writing staff leaves or gets lazy, the actors become bored and overpaid, the newer characters are never as interesting as the original characters (with some very notable exceptions). I never understand people who get angry that Arrested Development was canceled “too early.” The show had 53 fricking episodes — 41 more episodes than Fawlty Towers ever had — and pretty much every episode is worth watching. I’d say that roughly three to seven seasons is the TV sweet spot: Long enough for a show to evolve, but short enough to prevent late-period corrosion. (And that’s not to mention all the incredible one-season wonders that litter TV history, like The Prisoner, Boomtown, Firefly, John From Cincinnati, Kings, and Denis Leary’s The Job, still one of my favorite sitcoms ever.) '7 Minutes in Heaven' with Kristen Wiig: Watch!

In the great tradition of “find the most awkward place to do an interview” comes the new web series, 7 Minutes in Heaven, in which host Mike O’Brien (a Saturday Night Live writer) chats with a celebrity in a closet. The series debuted simultaneously today on YouTube, Hulu, and NBC.com, and for the next few weeks, we’ll get a new episode every Friday.

Kristen Wiig’s turn in the closet is a must-watch. Not only do we get to hear how she was injured on The Joe Schmo Show, we get to see her do “closet theater,” and pretend she and O’Brien are looking for her favorite dress (which he has sold for drugs). Other interviews online today include Elijah Wood (who talks about being a breast man and reads from a fake Hobbit script) and Andy Cohen (who shares a story about the first time he got drunk, took off his boxers to vomit in them, and tossed them out the window). Watch all three interviews below. And yes, each episode ends with O’Brien trying to kiss the person.  READ FULL STORY »

Mary Murphy on 'SYTYCD': Going gaga for Gaga

In the eight seasons of So You Think You Can Dance, tonight’s show was the most exciting I’ve ever had. If Lady Gaga wasn’t enough, throw in film director Rob Marshall onto the judging panel! It was so surreal to sit next to celebrities that I admire that have so adored our show from the beginning. You know they are true fans when, during commercial breaks, they are chatting about contestants from season 1. How cool is that? And if the judging panel didn’t do it for you, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, and Katie Holmes were in the audience. I thought for a second that I must be having this crazy dance dream, because as I walked down the hallway after the show, I was greeted by Stevie Nicks. Amazing!

Now, on to the top eight contestants.

It was so great to see all the new all-stars. I haven’t seen Ivan in such a long time; it’s so great to see how his craft grows. I felt Ivan DID outdance Caitlynn in the hip-hop number by Marty Kudelka, but she did do well to keep up. It was also wonderful to see last year’s champion Lauren Froderman back in a Mandy Moore jazz routine starring Tadd. He definitely had the swagger, with moves like Michael Jackson and that Elvis Presley crooner look. READ FULL STORY »

Behind-the-scenes: The 'Jersey Shore' kids take Italy

jersey_shore_320.jpg

On August 4, MTV’s Jersey Shore gang will take their GTL adventures overseas for a much-publicized trip to the motherland — that is, Florence, Italy. In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, guest columnist and Jersey Shore exec producer Sallyann Salsano writes about the culture clash that ensued, including car accidents, crying, and lots of cobblestone wipeouts. Check out an excerpt after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

'Project Runway' premiere: Are your favorite looks often in the middle of the pack?

Ah, Project Runway. It’s back. Here’s my full recap of the season 9 premiere. I rarely seem to agree with the judges’ top three picks, so one contestant’s post-panel comment stood out to me. After the quiet but perhaps deadly perfectionist Danielle was announced as part of the dreaded middling Safe Group, she muttered, “That’s, like… not good enough.” READ FULL STORY »

'Big Brother': Talk about tonight's eviction here

big_brother_2

I wanted to badly to write WHO will be eliminated tonight before I realized that I am not Tyra Banks and we are really in Big Brother land. So I ask: WHO will be evicted tonight? Based on last night’s veto episode, it seemed the odds were in Adam’s favor. Unlike Dominic, the metal lover has yet to make any real enemies — even if Brendon and Rachel still seem to be unsure about who their enemies are. (Could it be each other?! Twist!) Either way, here’s hoping Daniele does something interesting during tonight’s episode, and that Porsche does, well, something.

Jump to the comments to talk about tonight’s episode, and head back to EW.com later for my recap. (UPDATE: Click to read tonight’s Big Brother recap!) READ FULL STORY »

Netflix Relief Fund promises aid to white people who love GAP khakis

We’ve heard you. You’re pissed. Netflix let you down. But there’s help on the way for those of us who have to pay increased fees to the rental service. Bob Patterson‘s Jason Alexander is pleading for everyone to pay $6 a month to donate to the Netflix Relief Fund. How else do we solve “literally the worst thing that has ever happened to white people”? So take a break from your advanced Pilates workshop to send in some help. After all, we wouldn’t want to see a domino effect that would leave to a granola-less Whole Foods.
