'So You Think You Can Dance': Discuss the Top 12 performances!

Okay, these celebrity guest judges on So You Think You Can Dance are getting faintly ridiculous. Megan Mullally had formal dance and Broadway experience — okay. Debbie Reynolds tap-danced with Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain — love it. And Kristin Chenoweth has won a Tony Award — not for dancing, but that’s fine. But last week’s celebrity judge was Carmen Electra, whose main contribution to last week’s judging panel was her ability to not always use the same generic adjective of bland praise and her ability to not show up for the results show night.

This week’s celebrity judge? Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson. READ FULL STORY »

Mila Kunis may not be able to attend Marine Corps Ball, but what about her 'Friends With Benefits' co-star Justin Timberlake?

Well, this is sort of a bummer. Just a few days ago, we learned that Friends With Benefits star/all-around cool chick Mila Kunis had apparently accepted an invitation from Sgt. Scott Moore, who is stationed with the 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines in Musa Qalain, to attend the Marine Corps Ball with him this November. But today, Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush crushed his — and our — dreams when he announced she wouldn’t be able to attend the Ball because of filming conflicts. Bush went on to say that while Kunis had to decline the invitation, she would meet with Sgt. Moore personally when he gets back from his deployment. Kunis’ rep could not be reached for comment regarding the news.

If this does, in fact, turn out to be true, it won’t change our opinion of Kunis forever (she’s stayed in our good graces thus far). But it seems her Friends With Benefits co-star Justin Timberlake may be able to come to the rescue…for America. READ FULL STORY »

Summarize the entire 'Harry Potter' series in a tweet

While you’re busy tweeting about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 this weekend, you might want to take a moment and try to summarize the entire Harry Potter series in a tweet and add the hashtag #Potterinatweet. Do so before July 22, and you’ll be entered to win one of two trips to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a contest sponsored by Wikia’s Harry Potter Wiki, the most-visited Harry Potter fan site on the Internet. (You’re welcome.) If 140 characters won’t cut it (or 125, really, plus that hashtag, see some samples), you can also enter by logging into the Wiki and leaving a comment answering the question ”What does Harry Potter mean to you?” Winners will be randomly selected, but you owe it to Harry to put some thought into it. So far, there have been more than 1,500 entries.  READ FULL STORY »

'Project Runway' season 9 designers unveiled for us to judge (based mostly on their headshots)

You better work! Lifetime has the 20 new designers for Project Runway season 9 up online, and it’s bothering me way more than it should that some of their Facebook “like” tallies are exponentially higher than the others. Is “Gunnar Deatherage” a) a real person and b) the most popular because he’s the only one wearing shades in his headshot? Should I be wearing my favorite big-ass mirrorball sunglasses while I blog? Should I start a campaign for everyone who reads this to log on and “like” Becky Ross right now? I’d feel so good about that, but also dishonest. She might be annoying. You guys. Facebook is crazy.

Fret not: In addition to their headshots and early popularity counts, Lifetime has home videos of the 20 designers and portfolios of their past work. My early standouts include Fallene Wells for design, Bryce Black for childhood overalls, and Joshua Christensen for potential to be a serial killer. What about you?

Emmy nominations announced Thursday: Which longshot are you rooting for most?

Emmy nominations will be announced Thursday morning at 8:35 a.m. ET. You can watch Mike & Molly‘s Melissa McCarthy and Fringe‘s Joshua Jackson do the honors on Emmys.com. Our critic Ken Tucker has posted both his predictions of who will be nominated, and his dream ballot of who should be nominated. For argument’s sake, let’s consider anything NOT on his predictions list a longshot. Which longshot are you rooting for most?

I’ve already emailed Ken to tell him that his predictions made me angry with the Academy and they haven’t even snubbed Justified‘s Timothy Olyphant yet. READ FULL STORY »

'The X Factor': Are you intrigued or fatigued?

Simon Cowell’s The X Factor got its “world premiere sneak peek preview” just before last night’s MLB all-star game. So I guess this thing is really happening! Still hard to believe, considering the glut of singing reality competitions on network TV and the fact that it’s July and since when is Simon Cowell anywhere near TV in JULY? Watch the preview below. Can any all-star romantic comedy measure up to 'Love Actually'?

It seems like just about every day there’s new casting news regarding the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Heidi Murkoff’s pregnancy bible What To Expect When You’re Expecting. Yesterday, we announced that Chace Crawford has joined the ever-expanding ensemble, which already includes — so far — Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick, Brooklyn Decker, Elizabeth Banks, Rob Huebel, and Bridesmaids‘ breakout Rebel Wilson. Phew!

But does a growing cast mean growing anticipation for a film? After all, a great all-star cast doesn’t always translate to a great all-around film. (See: Bobby.) And all too often over the past year, our attitudes while watching all-star comedies have shifted from, “Wow, that’s an amazing line-up of stars!” to “Wow, that’s a whole lot of people crammed into one movie!”? I certainly felt the latter with the releases of 2009′s frustrating He’s Just Not That Into You and 2010′s insufferable Valentine’s Day. But will similarily star-packed flicks New Year’s Eve (which features, among many others, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Efron, Jessica Biel, Robert DeNiro, Josh Duhamel, Lea Michele, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Sofia Vergara) and What To Expect hold the same fate? Or can they pull off a Love Actually? READ FULL STORY »

Watch bad movie fan Patton Oswalt and bad movie icon Greg 'The Room' Sestero in a five-second film

Patton-Oswalt

Comedian Patton Oswalt has worked with everyone from Steven Soderbergh to Kevin James to a herd of animated rodents. But the previous achievements of the Ratatouille voice actor now, inevitably, look like just an extended warm-up to the main event. Why? Because the comedy website 5 Second Films has just posted its latest offering, which finds Patton co-starring with — wait for it! — Greg Sestero, star of Tommy Wiseau’s infamous so-bad-it’s awesome melodrama The Room. That’s right! It’s Patton and Sestero! Together at last!

This is big news for PopWatch, given our longtime devotion to Wiseau’s demented phantasmagoria, and also presumably for Patton, who has previously lampooned Wiseau and his syntax-mangling in a fake commercial for a company that launders money by investing the cash in terrible movies. (“Do you have monies from things that you should not have done to get the monies?”)

You can check out the Patton-Sestero collab below. And if you don’t like it, take heart in the fact that the sucker is around 1,500 times shorter than some rotten 2011 summer blockbusters we could mention. READ FULL STORY »

Jeff from 'Big Brother' rants about Dumbledore's homosexuality: 'He's in a school with little kids! You don't want to make that guy gay.'

big-brother-grab

I don’t typically watch the 24-hour Big Brother feeds, partially because I believe the editors who create the thrice-weekly Big Brother episodes are idiot-savant geniuses and I don’t want to spoil my enjoyment of their work, partially because if I wanted to watch a microscopic examination of the chaotically banal meaningfulness of human existence, I could just go see The Tree of Life again. But this news is too good to wait: Yesterday, returning fan favorite Jeff suddenly discovered, to his horror, that Professor Dumbledore from the Harry Potter franchise was gay, which led the lovable lunkhead into a delirious rant that served as a handy reminder that the problem with lovable lunkheads is that they are, ultimately, lunkheads.
