A celebratory dinner at Casa Bonita is in order, PopWatchers: The date for the second half of the 15th season of South Park has been announced! Comedy Central confirmed to EW that the animated series will be returning on Wednesday, October 5 at 10 p.m. The latter half of the 15th season will include seven new episodes.

The network also likely put the fears of many fans to rest that the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone were calling it quits after they alluded to a possible end to the series during June’s mid-season finale “You’re Getting Old.”  READ FULL STORY »

What's next for the 'Harry Potter' cast?

Now that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 has hit theaters and broken records, it’s truly time to move forward. We know what’s next for the main trio: Daniel Radcliffe continues his run in Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and his first post-Potter film will be 2012′s supernatural thriller The Woman in Black (“I am not averse to doing a big movie again, but I would like to work on smaller things for a while,” he told EW recently). Last month, Emma Watson wrapped the adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s 1999 coming-of-age novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and she’ll head back to school this fall, studying abroad at Oxford for her third year before returning to Brown for her senior year. And in May, Rupert Grint wrapped the WWII flick Comrade, about British and German soldiers stranded in the Norwegian wilderness and forced to work together to survive, and is currently attached to star in a long-gestating biopic about Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, the off-beat English ski jumper who became a British folk hero during the 1988 Winter Olympics. But what about our favorite supporting players? READ FULL STORY »

'Captain Planet' to be made into a live-action movie: 'The power is yours' (to remember '90s cartoon catchphrases)!

Earth! Wind! Fire! Heart! No, PopWatchers, I am not just shouting the names of bands from the ’70s (sorry, Water, you didn’t fit in the theme of my joke). Rather, I am calling for all the forces that combined to make the super awesome ’90s animated superhero, the one and only Captain Planet, to team up once again.

That’s because Cartoon Network has signed a deal with producers Susan Montford and Don Murphy (Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Real Steel) and their company Angry Filmworks, to make a live-action movie out of the beloved animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, which ran from 1990 to 1996. Said Stuart Snyder, the president and COO of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s Animation, Young Adults, and Kids Media division in a statement, “We are extremely excited about bringing the good Captain back to life. His adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations. We expect to make a spectacular series of films with the amazing team at Cartoon Network.”

Yes, fellow ’90s nostalgia geeks, the series that taught us the importance of saving the Earth (and that if you live a green, albeit crime-fighting, lifestyle, your hair will also be green) is going to be made into a film. READ FULL STORY »

Burning Questions: Answers for the casual 'Harry Potter' fan on 'Deathly Hallows -- Part 2'

If the last time you read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the weekend it hit bookstores, you may have scratched your head a few times while watching Deathly Hallows — Part 2. Here, a few burning questions answered.

1. Who was Ron supposed to be when they broke into Gringotts? In the book, it’s made clear that they only have enough Polyjuice Potion for one person. Therefore, Hermione simply reworks some of Ron’s features, which is why he’s still recognizable. Had he introduced himself in the film, he’d have been fictional foreigner Dragomir Despard, a Dark Lord sympathizer who doesn’t speak much English and traveled from Transylvania.

2. What was the lotion/potion Hermione put on their hands when they emerged from the water after using the dragon as their getaway ride? In the book, there are two curses on the objects in Bellatrix’s vault. If you touch them they multiply — and they burn you. She uses essence of dittany to regrow skin on their hands. They didn’t mention heat in the movie, perhaps because if their hands were blistered, their faces would have been, too, and no one wants that. Spectator attacks Rupert Murdoch during Parliament hearing

After more than two hours, the British Parliament committee inquiry into the News of the World phone hacking scandal was interrupted when a male spectator lunged for media titan Rupert Murdoch and attempted to hit him with a plate of shaving cream. A 15-minute break was taken so order could be restored, and the man was handcuffed by police authorities.

Before the attempted attack, Murdoch told the committee that he was humbled and ashamed by the phone-hacking scandal that precipitated the closing of the News of the World tabloid and cast a cloud over his entire News Corp empire. But the 80-year-old billionaire stopped short of accepting blame, claiming “the people that I trusted to run [the paper] and then maybe people they trusted” were ultimately responsible. Near the end of the questioning, Murdoch was asked if he had contemplated stepping down from the company. He firmly answered he had not. READ FULL STORY »

Proposition 8 play heads to Broadway

A new play about the legal battles over California’s Proposition 8 will be performed in several staged readings on Broadway in September, the New York Times reports. Written by Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, the drama, titled simply 8, consists largely of dialogue from transcripts of the 2010 trial that ended with a judge overturning Proposition 8, the 2008 California legislation that had defined marriage as strictly a union between man and a woman. (The ruling is currently being appealed.) After its Broadway debut, 8 is set to be performed at several college campuses around the country, including Carnegie Mellon and Northwestern.

'Hey Dude' hits DVD today: Do you remember this Nickelodeon gem?

hey_dude_dvd

There hasn’t been a new episode of Nickelodeon’s teen Western Hey Dude — the network’s first live-action series! — produced for 20 years now, but today, the series finally gets its proper due with a much-anticipated season 1 DVD release. You heard me right: Now you can relive all the hormonal ranch antics from the late ’80s/early ’90s once again via your DVD player. (Yes, the sitcom’s first two seasons have been on iTunes for nearly two years now, but, well…I didn’t know that.)

The series was a favorite of mine as a young child, maybe because it was on during the years where I was about age six to eight and I was obsessed with all things Nickelodeon — and of course, all things that were beyond me in age. This was a series about teenagers, and yet, I was, comparably, very young while watching. (But then again, I always was watching things beyond my years: I started watching Beverly Hills, 90210 in second grade.)

It’s funny, though, because I can’t remember that much about what the series was about — just that I loved it dearly. I have fuzzy associations with it, and only vaguely remember that there seemed to be a cast of characters who worked at the Bar None Dude Ranch somewhere in the Southwest and they were — yes, you guess it! — always sort of getting into some sort of trouble. Shenanigans! I haven’t gone back to watch it yet, but I have a feeling that if I did — and will I really? let’s get real: probably not — it likely wouldn’t hold up as much as it does as a gleeful, frothy memory in my mind. Maybe I’ll just leave it that way.

Anyway, I had fond associations of this series and thought maybe some of you out there would, too. Do you remember Hey Dude? Do you care that it’s getting a second life here on DVD? You know what is still totally great, of course, is the show’s corny opening credits. “Hey, dude!” Indeed! Watch here:

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette' episode 8

Chris-Harrison

We have made it through the infamous hometown dates and now it’s time for the exotic dates. You know what that means… that’s right, the fantasy suite card! Before anybody decides if they will forgo their individual rooms, however, let’s discuss this week. Actually let’s go back to last week first. Many of you asked why Ben stayed overnight with Ashley on his date. The reason he stayed was not exactly romantic: Ashley, Ben, and the crew stayed the night because Taroko is several hours away by car and after a very long day and night we didn’t want to put anybody through that travel. Ben and Ashley did not share a room, nor were they given the option to spend the night together. For that to have happened I would’ve had to whip up a fresh batch of fantasy suite cards, and I was otherwise detained. Now back to this week’s episode. READ FULL STORY »

'The Bachelorette' episode 8: 'A lifetime of adventures... with myself'

Hometown dates — can you believe they’re over, rose lovers? If you’ve seen tonight’s episode — and SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t — you know that none of the Fortunate Four had truly freaky families, which is good for them but somewhat disappointing for us. That said, I don’t think there’s one person out there who didn’t see this elimination coming (minus the eliminated suitor, of course). Stayed tuned for my full TV recap later tonight (UPDATE: Click to read The Bachelorette recap and Chris Harrison’s Bachelorette blog), but in the meantime, let me know what you thought of tonight’s episode. Whose dad was your favorite? (For me it was all about Papa Constantine.) Is it me, or did Ames family look like they just stepped out of a Tommy Hilfiger catalog shoot? And was Ashley’s salad truly the most beautiful salad ever created by human hands? Post your comments below!
