Banking heir and environmental consultant Nick Loeb, Vergara’s boyfriend of a year, is considering running for a U.S. Senate seat from Florida next year. Said Loeb of his potential campaign, “The Emmys are Sept. 18 and I’ll probably make a decision after that.” Glad he’s got his priorities straight! READ FULL STORY »

Diva-tastic Paris Hilton storms out of ABC News interview

Categories: Bitchery, Paris Hilton

Guys… it’s time to start taking Paris Hilton seriously.

But actually.

This morning, ABC News aired footage of Hilton from a taped interview with reporter Dan Harris, in which Hilton talked openly about her show, her $1-billion product empire, and her personal life. In a bizarre, bipolar moment, however, Hilton revealed her touchy side: When asked on-camera about her reality show’s ratings compared with those of her onetime celebutante protégée Kim Kardashian’s, the hard-partying heiress walked off the set. 'A Clockwork Orange'... the musical?

Certainly when people think of Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 classic A Clockwork Orange, at least one song pops into mind. But will the ultra-violent classic sustain an entire evening’s worth of show tunes? Original novelist Anthony Burgess, who passed away in 1993, believed so, reports the BBC. Five decades after Burgess wrote the chilling novel, the behind-the-scenes story of its life as a stage production has proved no less twisted than the source material itself. But how do Bono, The Edge, and West Side Story come into play? READ FULL STORY »

All is well, but what is your favorite Harry Potter film?

Now that Harry Potter’s cinematic journey is gloriously complete, the sheer magnitude of his universe is truly dizzying to behold. Eight epic films made during a 10-year span, costing more than a billion dollars to bring to life, earning more than six billion at the worldwide box-office, employing nearly every distinguished British actor of the age. The Potter films evolved along with its young heroes — from the cutesy Chris Columbus efforts to David Yates’ darker, more-adult action films — and a generation of fans grew up with them.

Asking Potterheads to select a favorite movie of the bunch, therefore, is like asking Ron’s mom to name her favorite Weasley. Does that wondrous childhood thrill of soaring above the Quidditch pitch in The Sorcerer’s Stone still hold a special place in your heart? Did the Dementors from The Prisoner of Azkaban raise the stakes when they delivered the series’ first pangs of real dread? Or have the final two films triumphantly captured the melancholic spirit of J.K. Rowling’s last book? If only there were some magic Sorting Hat to help determine where our true loyalties lie. For now, we’ll settle for a simple poll. Which Potter film is your favorite? Vote below.

Facebook and Republican party team for debates. Do you 'like' this?

These days, it seems Democrats tend to be more technologically plugged-in than Republicans. Whether it’s iPhone-owner President Obama holding a Twitter town hall or ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner sexting college coeds, typing on smart phones just seems to be something donkeys do better than elephants.

Still, the GOP needs the youth vote, so today the Republican party announced they’d be holding their first-ever Facebook debate sometime next year before the New Hampshire primary. The historic event, moderated by Meet the Press’ David Gregory, will be streamed live on Facebook and users will be able to give instant feedback (which should come in handy should Michele Bachmann attempt to speak Yiddish again). Rupert Murdoch and Jonnie Marbles: The latest, but not the greatest, in pieing history

pie-in-face

Moments before attempting to shove a foam pie in the face of embattled News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch, a British comic and activist known online as Jonnie Marbles tweeted, “It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat.”

Quoting A Tale of Two Cities‘ martyr Sydney Carton to justify a pie in the face demonstrates gross delusions of grandeur, but there is some historical precedence for the provocative act. A pie in the face may have its origins in the slapstick films of Mack Sennett, Laurel & Hardy, and the Three Stooges, and reached its zenith in the hands of the late Soupy Sales. But in addition to being a celebratory tradition for winning baseball teams, it’s also evolved into a symbol of political defiance. It’s the ultimate expression of helpless frustration: I can’t change the media or the government or that lifeguard who keeps me off the kiddie-slide, but I can make him look foolish in front of everyone!  READ FULL STORY »

Sarah Palin's 'The Undefeated': We saw it so you don't have to!

the_undefeated

A documentarian could hardly ask for a better subject than Sarah Palin. Love her or hate her, the former governor of Alaska has managed to remain in the public spotlight thanks to her captivating (and polarizing) persona — a self-appointed mama grizzly who positions herself as so outside the political system that she can host a reality-television show and somehow get away with it.

Ideally, a documentary about Palin’s swift rise to national prominence would investigate both her notable triumphs and numerous gaffes. But considering The Undefeated‘s title, no one is going to approach it expecting a balanced account of Palin’s career. I checked it out Sunday night at a multiplex in Orange, Calif., one of 10 theaters it played in last weekend and the closest one to Los Angeles. (The film expands to 14 locations this weekend.) About 30 moviegoers joined me, filling up maybe a fifth of the auditorium. And they dug what they saw, showering the movie with applause at its conclusion.

As for my thoughts, let me begin by saying that the film’s staunch one-sidedness, while unfortunate, isn’t a major flaw in-and-of itself. READ FULL STORY »

Superman and Lois Lane are no longer married

superman_wedding

Superman and Lois Lane haven’t been together forever. When the two characters were introduced in Action Comics #1 over 70 years ago, hard-edged Lois practically refused to give Superman’s nerdy alter ego Clark Kent the time of day. Lois was more interested in Superman: She spent most of her own comic book — Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane — trying to get Supes to marry her by hook or by crook, but the superhero always turned her down. They danced this two-person three-way tango for decades — Clark loved Lois, Lois loved Superman, Superman wanted Lois to love Clark, etc. Then came the ’90s, the Era of Big Changes for Superheroes. In 1990, the couple got engaged; in 1996, they got married; and so they have remained ever since.

Until now. As part of DC Comics’ companywide reboot, Superman will commence living an exciting life of super-bachelorhood in September, while Lois will be seeing a co-worker, thus perpetuating the unlikely stereotype that journalists have active dating lives. READ FULL STORY »
