'So You Think You Can Dance': And the eliminated dancers are...

SYTYCD

Gaga throwing shoes! Marko weeping! Sasha getting her Fierce back (in no small part thanks to Pasha, I am convinced). Last night was an eventful and powerful performance episode, to say the least. Who was your favorite, and who do you think should go home? Are you starting to feel the Melanie backlash, or do you think she’s got it in the bag? How pumped are you about whatever batty costume(s) Gaga will don during her performance? Is it starting to hit you that the show is on the upswing when there are only a few weeks left? Post your comments while the live show airs, and we’ll be back after the close to reveal which two dancers are going home and the names of next week’s all-stars. UPDATE: The results have been announced. This show is nothing if not an unpredictable animal, so no All-Stars were announced, though eliminations were doled out. And the dancers going home are…

Jordan and Jess. No number of leg extensions and fouettés could save them from that cruel mistress fate. Tadd and Caitlynn, meanwhile, were also in the bottom four, but lived to dance another day.

So are you sad to see the shorties go, or was it long overdue? Were you shocked that Ricky didn’t have to dance for his life? Do you think Tadd can hold out for another week to land himself a spot in the finale? Is Sasha hitting her stride just in time, or will it be impossible to catch up to Melanie? And, most importantly, how hot was Mark dancing with Gaga? Discuss below, and then come back later for my full recap!

I think Ricky and Jess and Kaitlyn and Jordan in the bottom. I’d prefer that Ricky and Jordan stay, but it’s possible that Ricky will go home instead of Jess. Melanie and Marko have been my favorites since top 20 started.

  • May

    Jordan needs to go!

    • Aunt Sassy

Why? I so do not get all the hate being directed at Jordan – I’d rather watch her dance than Caitlynn fling her hair around any day.

      • Lyndsey

Amen to that! I’ll miss Jordan so much!!!!!!

      • natalie

Jordan just feels very one-note to me. Every solo she has done features her in a bra and hot pants slinking around the stage being “sexy” and doing developpes. There is no denying that she is a strong dancer, and when others choreographed her she certainly appeared to be versatile, but I think that she needs to work on the way that she presents herself.

    • Fog cue

Who the balls voted for Ricky?

      • kmb

Seriously! It’s because Nigel made such a big deal about how much trouble he was in so everyone felt sorry and voted for him. I never really liked Jess but Ricky definitely should have gone home before he did.

  • yawn

Pretty predictable. Caitlynn and Ricky will be going home.

    • nyc

      not really.

    • ThunderMug

This is what I thought. Imagine my surprise when they wound up staying.

  • jill

My money is on Ricky. Melanie was handed a pass this week when she danced contemporary and jazz – like she does every week! Make this girl earn her keep with a Samba, Bollywood or Disco routine.

    • Marcie

Didn’t she already do a bollywood?

      • pdxstomp

I think the only two Bollywood routines this season were Iveta and Nick’s and Clarice and Robert’s. Both got the dancers sent home that week. Even though I personally really liked Clarice’s Bollywood, but by that point I don’t think she had enough fans.

      • D

She absolutely did not, unless you count the group number.

    • Kari

I agree Jill. Melanie has done contemporary, jazz, and waltz more than two times each with the exception of hip hop and tango for only one week-and in those two weeks she got a pass. BOOOO. This is SYTYCD not so you can dance contemporary. I would love to see her Lily personality try to do a samba, salsa, bollywood, jive, or disco. She wouldn’t be able to do it properly.

      • Leigh-Ann

Melanie was one of the featured dancers (i.e. at the front of the stage) in the group Bollywood number and she did a great job. And a waltz *is* a ballroom dance, not contemporary or jazz. No matter how fluid it looks when done well, it requires an entirely different skill set than “modern” dance, and it would be a challenge for anyone without ballroom training. By my count, at least one-third of Melanie’s dances haven’t been in her speciality, and that seems comparable to Sasha’s dance genre ratio.

      • D

Leigh-Ann those “waltzes” are not even in hold-they look very watered down and a lot like contemporary. I agree with Kari, and would add KRUMP to the list.

    • mg

I SO AGREE! this is so fixed for Melanie To win thanks to the judges , why are they still voting off people, so sad for the other dancers , they didnt even have a chance for the get go

      • Skye

Because she’s the best. If you can’t see that, you’re a tard.

      • Kasey

I am so sick of people hating melanie just because she is good and can pick the dances up easily. She is a contemporary dancer The Viennese Waltz and the Tango are BALLROOM big difference, Jazz falls more under Broadway, and lyrical hip hop is hip hop. While she does get alot of slower routines the technique for each style is different. Her dance with Neil last night was just amazing to have the guts to throw yourself at someone like that and trust that he will catch you is crazy. Also if you watch her in the different group numbers she has done a great job in each one. One of the group numbers was even a bollywood number and she was great in it. So stop the hating.

      • Jo

I love it when people call SYTYCD fixed. From a business perspective, what on earth do the producers get by resorting to “fixing” the show. It isn’t like mainstream America will readily recognize the winner, etc.

Anyway — for all those that complain about Melaine — as one poster said — her variety in dance type is comparable to Sasha so why the hate. It is entirely possible that Melaine has the talent to pick up dance styles quickly. Joshua Allen from season 4 was the same way. Here was a hip hop dancer that really manage to own any style dance given to him. So you might actually want to give Melanie credit for her talent as opposed to claiming she is always in her comfort zone.

      • Deb

Can anyone explain why the judges are still voting? When it got down to Top 10 week they were all gushing about how glad they were that it was “out of their hands”, but they’ve kept on voting, and I’ve never heard an explanation for why. What’s up with the change in protocol? Or are they just silently acknowledging that this is the way it’s ALWAYS been, and America has just been “fooled” all this time?

    • ginadebacker

Agreed! I think she’s fabulous, but I want her to prove it to me. Of course she’s gorgeous in contemporary. That’s her genre. That comes as no surprise. Make her do a sexy samba or a fast-paced salsa. Or a hard-hitting paso doble!

    • Anonymous

Melanie has been my favorite since she auditioned. Why do people dislike her for always doing well? She probably dances contemporary a lot because the producers know people love to see her do it. That’s not really fair to the other dancers, but she shouldn’t be punished for being so good.

      That’s so Fetch!

      • Regina

Stop trying to make Fetch happen!

      • Mocha

I wish that I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy. *sniffle*

  • Meg

Can someone tell me what Jordan’s wearing?

    • 3 left feet

The usual, bra and undies with the bra being from the Victoria’s Secret bondage collection.

      • A

Are you mad you wouldn’t look as good in the same outfit?

      • Lyndsey

LOL! If I had her body I’d DEFINITELY wear it! How is what Jordan wore that different from other dancers?? In case some of you didn’t notice Sasha also had on a bra top! I didn’t hear all these people complain when guys, like Brandon, wore only tiny little shorts!
By the way, last week I saw a group of 9 year-old girls dance in bikini tops & ruffled underwear…AND thigh-high garters!!! Compared to that Jordan was downright tasteful!!!

      • 3 left feet

@A, how do you know I don’t? And if I did, I certainly wouldn’t adorn it that way. Lauren Froderman’s style is more to my tastes.

      • @ Lyndsey

All the other dancers were much more covered than Jordan. Even Sasha, in her bra top, with long pants and a big coat.

      • Lyndsey

“Much more covered”?? Caitlynn’s outfit MIGHT have had a quarter of a yard more of material than Jordan’s…at most! In case you haven’t noticed most dancers dress that way. Jordan just happens to be more voluptuous than most dancers which, apparently, gives the appearance of wearing less. Heck, I wore far more revealing tops when I was bartending a few years ago (great for tips)! There is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman being confident enough to show a little skin. It’s not like she was in church or a classroom. It wasn’t any more inappropriate than the Brandon wearing those little briefs during his solo in season 5. Jeez!!!! You people will find anything to hate about this girl won’t you?!
By the way, if you want to direct a comment towards me try having the guts to use your own name instead of mine!!!

    • Skye

Gotta love it when all the fat girls get upset over what all the hot women on TV are wearing. Put down the cheeseburgers and cake, ladies, and maybe you wont be so fat.

      • Ed

“Fat girls” and “tard”. You are truly a troubled soul, Skye.

  • Bee

what style was the top 8 group dance???
    who choreographed it?
    music?
    standout dancer?
    Thanks!

    • Meg

Tyce, jazz/contemporary, Raising the Circus from “Water for Elephants,” and there really wasn’t a standout dancer for me. But it was a really well-done piece–I was not expecting it to be from Tyce; it looked more like Mindy (or whomever choreographed Melanie/Neil last night).

      • Jo

Mandy Moore choreographed Melanie and Neil’s dance.

    • D

@Meg-I loved the piece too and was surprised it was the “great choreographer” Tyce. He is rehabilitating himself after the NPH debacle.

  • Uugghh

Never liked Jordan. Ricky was weakest last night. Would not be upset if either of these two leave. Lurve caitlyn. Not ready to lose her yet. Wouldn’t hate it if Sasha went either. I’m over it. Bring back more Ivan!

  • anonymous

Am I the only one who thinks Caitlynn should have been one of the top 2 girls?

    • Olive

No! Caitlynn and Melanie should be the top two girls in my opinion.

    • Mellissa

That’s what anon. said, Olive. Caitlynn should have been one of the top two girls.

      • anon

yeah, olive was agreeing with the other anon. she wasn’t the only one who thought so.

  • Corky

    Wow that is a shock!

    • anonymous

I think a lot of viewers didn’t appreciate Nigel throwing Ricky under a bus so they gave him more votes.

      • Corky

You’re correct, I think they will save Tadd if Nigel prevails.

      • Amy

        I agree!

      • benngie

I agree … I totally thought it would be Ricky and either Tadd or Jess in B3, with Ricky going home until Nigel commented on Ricky. Then it became all about showing Nigel up, and not about who’s your favorite dancer.

    • jen

      what! what happened?!

      • She

I also though that Rickey’s votes were a backlash to Nigel’s throwing him under the bus.

  • Ravin

So far a night of surprises! Really enjoyed the opening dance and then was shocked to hear that TYCE did it???? Bottom girls were no surprise, but the bottom boys were. Love all the boys left though so it’s hard to let any of them go!

    • kaya

Think it’s Tyce’s new hair that’s giving him inspiration!

  • Sally

    I hope Jordan goes home!

  • Corky

Wow, that was new–Jordan lifted her leg again and again and yet again.

    • Annette

LOL!! – she really does change it up for every dance for your life.

    • Mellissa

Even though this is not surprising, the way you explained her solo made me envision a dog peeing.

  • tickles

Jess just rocked his solo. I think he is a much better dancer than he is at partnering. Like Evan he composes a solo that combines dance skills with personality and humor.

    • tickles

Just thought about how funny it is that in the solos dancers who are better at partnering like the ballroom dancers are kind of given the short shift and receive critiques that they aren’t good soloists. But then dancers who are better soloists receive the critique during the judging portion of the show that they are not good partners.
Maybe the name of the show needs to be changed to So You Think You Can Be a Really Good Dance Partner.

    • anonymous

I think Jess is more skilled than Evan, though.

    • Shannon

But his solos all look the same to me…it was fun the first couple of times, but he even does the same moves over and over. I even think he danced to that song before too.

      • Ronnie

Thank you! My whole family was complaining about that tonight!

  • tickles

    Mark!!!

    • Julie

Loved Mark, although he wasn’t on nearly long enough…. Not upset by the results at all, but I am surprised. Final four are all GREAT!!

      • Mellissa

…the final four? I think we can all guess who that’s going to be, but officially the final four won’t be announced until NEXT Thursday.

    • Cate

I can’t believe I missed Mark. I fast-forwarded through the entire Gaga song.

      • D

        He was front and center.
