'South Park' to return on Oct. 5, and all the way through 2013. Kick-ass.

A celebratory dinner at Casa Bonita is in order, PopWatchers: The date for the second half of the 15th season of South Park has been announced! Comedy Central confirmed to EW that the animated series will be returning on Wednesday, October 5 at 10 p.m. The latter half of the 15th season will include seven new episodes.

The network also likely put the fears of many fans to rest that the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone were calling it quits after they alluded to a possible end to the series during June’s mid-season finale “You’re Getting Old.” Parker and Stone are signed on through 2013, Comedy Central told EW, which will bring the show to a staggering 17 seasons. So while it seemed like the duo had one foot out the door (and the other one on the Broadway stage with their Tony-winning hit musical Book of Mormon), South Park fans can breathe a sigh of relief, and inhale a few more Cheesy Poofs, for at least another two years.

But I’m curious: Are you happy to hear this news, PopWatchers? I can’t imagine many of you wouldn’t be, as you voted South Park the greatest animated television series of all-time. Does this news make the surprisingly touching “You’re Getting Old” feel a little less poignant? Or are you just relieved to know there’s still at least a few more seasons of hilariously offensive adventures to be had from Colorado’s funniest foul-mouthed fourth graders?

I don’t know how i feel abouit this. Like the show a lot, and it has aged better than almost any show (even if it is still rocky at times) that went this long. However, I thought using ‘you’re getting old’ to set up the end of the series and taking these last 7 in a new direction would have sent the series out on a very high note. But then again, when they decide to end it I trust they will deliver a proper finale.

This is great news. There will always be new things to skewer. Long live South Park.

if CC would stop being so PC and sensoring their greatest stuff id be happy, but with a few exceptions every episode since the famous 3 minutes of censorship has pretty much sucked, i think its time they quit or found a better channel

Shut it down Lydia. You’re uglier now than before for advertising a website in the comments. Desperate person for a desperate company? I think so.

It’s very sad for me that South Park will end in 2013. I’m a huge fan of this great animated show. I hope that Matt Stone and Trey Parker will change their mind soon.

      • Caleb

Dude, it will go until AT LEAST 2013. They may decide to go after that.

  • oshady

I would have been satisfied with the show wrapping up if that’s what Trey & Matt wanted, and honestly just began to accept it. That said, the minute I saw this I actually yelled “YES!”

    • Brad

I yelled the exact same thing

    • Ben

I did the exact same thing.

I’m ecstatic to know South Park is set until 2013. For a while now, I’ve been unrealistically wondering if the series would ever surpass The Simpsons astonishing +450 run. However, I feel South Park is much more entertaining and politically incorrect. And after all, quality is better than quantity. And just recently, I’ve noticed how lowbrow and uneducated Family Guy is. The incessant sketch humour is primitive, and just about anyone could conjure up the same irrelevant gags, leading me to appreciate South Park’s thought-provoking, though occasionally preachy, intelligent schemes.

        same here. EYY OOOO

This news is as good as the news that Mr. Garrison and his friends had scared all the cashchucking richers out of South Park!

  • Sofia

Yeaaaa, The second best show on tv, the first ‘the daily show with Jon Stewart’

    • john

      hahahaha you 1/2 fail…

I hope that they get back to more focus on the boy’s lives in the South Park community and not such grande, world-encompassing plots to make a current pop-culture statement. I just rewatched the episode last night where Cartman tricked Scott Tenorman into eating his parents. It made me realize how much I miss episodes like that one.

    • T Hill

That was the BEST EPISODE EVER!

    • M. Wong

Totally true. Current events related episodes have not been that funny and they try to pack too much due to the current event themes. More like those in the first 7 seasons.

    • Todd

They still do that sometimes, but those kinds of episodes are few and far between these days. I think part of it stems from the fact that as their show lasted longer, they either matured a bit and decided to start doing social commentary, or they simply realized that now they have more freedom to do it than they did initially. I enjoy both the social commentary and the random episodes like Scott Tenorman Must Die pretty much equally. But I have noticed over the past few seasons, the show just isn’t quite as fresh anymore. I REALLY loved the imaginationland 3 parter. That one was full of nostalgia with all the characters found in imaginationland, and it was pretty damn funny too.

I think part of the problem is they’ve run out of regular original ideas, and now they do too many celebrity cameos and parodies of other films/TV shows and things like that.

“South Park” is and always has been THE BEST show on tv. May it live on until the end of time. Respect its AUTHORITAY !!!

I’m not that surprised that it’s coming back- after all, Matt and Trey confirmed they’d be back in their post-Tonys Daily Show interview. I agree that the past season’s episodes weren’t the show’s best, but even if the quality doesn’t go back up I’m absolutely positive I’ll be watching until the very end.

  • Dave

I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I’ve always been a huge fan, so I’m happy. But on the other hand, I must admit that the first half of the current season was not that good. Out of the 7 episodes, I thought that only two of them were good. Hopefully, the quality of the episodes will go back up.

    • Joe

T.M.I. and City Sushi? these were the best of this season for me

      • Ezequiel

Great job finding the fun in a not-so-fun siouttian. Honestly, I can’t promise that I would’ve been able to do the same. I’m not the biggest football fan combine that with an uncomfortable setting and I’m not sure how I’d take it haha.HOWEVER, I will say that the squirrel running the field is definitely a day brightener Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance recently posted..

    • Brandon

I agree, although I found 3 (TMI, City Sushi, and You’re Getting Old) to be pretty good. The last one may even be one of the most important episode the show has had in YEARS, even though it doesn’t mean the end as so many thought it would. I sincerely hope they continue the themes and character developments set in that episode and don’t “refresh” to the status quo. The show needs some fresh changes.

  • BigBlonde

NO, don’t go to Casa Bonita. Do you have ANY idea how disgusting the food is there? Yes, cave divers, blackbeard’s cave, the games, blah blah blah. But straight Velveeta as a cheese sauce. EWWWWWWWWWW

    • ShermanVFFV

yeah, but Casa Bonita so-so-pias (I’m sure that no where spelt right, but wtf, I’m a white boy and not a beaner) are the shi# and all you can eat. I sit down put that crap food aside and raise that flag up for the good stuff!

  • Eric

I look forward to the inevitable Casey Anthony episode.

    • Brad in Edmonton

      I suspect she is too.

  • Missy Homan

    Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

    • Kat

      LOL thanks, Abed.

  • Ryan

Just because they are signed through 2013 doesn’t mean they will make shows through that date. Look at Dave Chapelle.

I hope Matt and Trey make the show as long as they are motivated to do so.

  • ATK

Love the show. The renewal does not cheapen “you’re getting old” though it helps ease the fear of it being the beginning of the end. This is not the first time they have made major sweeping chages, just not quite so dramatic.

  • Winston5

    thank god.

  • Heather

I want to know what’s going to happen now in regards to Stan and his family.

    • Jake

Doesn’t Stan still live in South Park? U see Stan still at his school, stark’s pond, and he’s walking around the town when he sees the duck. He isn’t gone from South Park, but I don’t know if his mom or dad is still in South park. One of em is out of the town I think.

      • Rob

I know this is a little late, but if you remember in the episode “clubhouse” stan’s parents divorced back then but got bak together

      • Mark
