Pop quiz, PopWatchers: You live on the East Coast and you’ve got roughly nine hours to go until the midnight screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. You haven’t seen the first seven flicks (or, you have, and just want to watch them all over again), and you’d need roughly 14 hours in order to catch up. What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO?
Why, you watch this ever-so-helpful YouTube video created by the Fine Brothers, of course. In just seven minutes, the online sketch comedy team, decked out in Potter-inspired gear, catch everyone up to speed on the epic saga. (I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure this is the plot of Source Code?)
Benny and Rafi Fine, whose fast-talking skills rival the FedEx guy, impressively — and hilariously — give the gist of a very detailed decade-long story by explaining key terms (a Muggle is a “non-magic folk, duh!”), sharing common criticisms (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is “the [most] pointless movie in the series”) and bringing up some confusing twists (why did the evil Slytherin house even exist in the first place?!). We’re going to watch this vid a few more times as a helpful catch-up guide before the saga goes “Evanesco!” Watch the full clip below.
What do you think of the Fine Brothers seven minute retelling of the Harry Potter series, PopWatchers? Helpful or did they still miss too much? Post as fast as you can in the comments section below.

The critics have spoken on the final ‘Harry Potter’ film. And the verdict is…
‘Harry Potter’ Central

Yeah…. every time they go ‘we have no idea!’… that stuff was explained in the books. Long story short- read the books, watch the movies, onto the next fad in books and movies!
Every time they said something like that, it made me cringe. All of that stuff was explained in detail in the books, and as much as Harry Potter fans would love to see every detail make it from the book to the movie, we understand that’s simply not feasible. It was annoying that they were insinuating that the storylines didn’t make sense.
They did specify they were covering the movies, not the books. If you want to learn more, pick up the books, people!
humor: n
1. the quality of being funny
2. Also called: sense of humour the ability to appreciate or express that which is humorous
3. situations, speech, or writings that are thought to be humorous
While you may not personally find the video funny, it was obviously an attempt to be humorous. OF COURSE you can read the books to get all the details–that wasn’t the point of the video. Perhaps you all need a Cheering Charm?
thank you. I personally found it hilarious.
For some reason I find them very annoying. I only watched the Sorcerer’s Stone portion and then I couldn’t take it anymore.
They are awful
Where’s the lost 7 minute video girl when you need her?
I love the fine brothers!!!
I actually thought that was really funny. I have read the books and seen the movies several times over and I found myself asking the same questions about the ommission of certain details in the movies. Overall the movies were great, but that was because I was familiar with the books. As someone watching the movies and not reading the books I can see how a lot of things would be lost on them. Regardless, you must have no sense of humor if you didn’t find at least parts of that video funny.
I thought it was dead on the money, lol. As far as the movies vs. the books, that’s been my biggest problem with the movies all along, that if you HAVEN’T read the books, I don’t see how you can possibly keep up with what the Howler is going on. They were in such a big rush to jump on the cash cow that they started making these things before having ANY idea how the story was going to turn out or where it would eventually end up, so they left out giant chunks of things that—surprise!—were pivotal later on. (Dobby!!!) And quite frankly, I love Harry Potter like I love my son (one thing certainly predates the other), but I’m not going to pretend I don’t see flaws in it, and a couple of things these two idiots said “I have NO IDEA!” about applied to not just the movies but the books too. I mean, really, does it not bother anyone else that one of the four houses is a dumping ground for the selfish, sneaky, underhanded, devious, violent, and evilly-inclined? Really?
thank you too! I always wondered why Slytherin House was allowed to continue recruiting students that we knew were just going to turn out evil. Also, I have never read the books and I figure now is not a good time to start. But there have been PLENTY of things about these movies that have confused me. The TriWizard Tournament that was allowed to have FOUR wizards (!) and the absence of Hermoine’s time travel device in future movies. But I did realize that they weren’t pointing out flaws so much as they were making jokes. It pays to have a sense of humor.
Well if you read the books you would see that the timeturners do appear in the 5th book when they smash them to pieces.
@the girl – re the time turner devices – I always wondered why they didn’t go back and just kill Voldemort in book 4 at the graveyard before he kills Cedric, or before when he’s Tom Riddle.
Yeah, I always wondered that too. You’d still have a great story, just at the end of book 7, someone would have saved one time turner.
I have cousins that haven’t read the books and not one of them is confused by the films. They understand exactly what is going on as it’s presented to them. In fact,I think they enjoy the films MORE because they aren’t constantly comparing them to the books. As far as Slytherin house goes,I’m pretty sure the fact that it’s full of evil wizards is SUPPOSED to bother you. They’re the antagonists.
I thought it was HILARIOUS. Well done, boys!
That became annoying in :30 seconds
*here it’s*
They did a good job and made some good points.
I have never seen the movies or read these children’s books, but I did just invest 7 minutes in the Harry Potter franchise. It looks idiotic.
you are indeed a loser, have no sense of childhood, imagination, or sensibility to make a judgement on one of the most successful book AND movie franchises the recent generations have and will ever see based on a 7 minute, humor-based recap video. crawl in a hole.
These guys are haters.
Yay, I love The Fine Brothers!
This 7 minute video is not my kind of funny. It is very annoying. Just the sound of their voices makes me cringe. It is definitely not my cup of tea. I am going to see HP7 today and I know I will enjoy it.
