David Letterman flips off the audience

David Letterman was having so much fun with his favorite actress, Larry Crowne‘s Julia Roberts, that he seemed peeved that the audience was in the room. When they interrupted his conversation about children with a half-sincere, “Awwwwww,” he fired them the double-bird. No feelings were hurt, fortunately. Take a look.

Reminds me of another classic bird-bit from back in the day. Though it only qualifies as offensive if you’re upside-down. Hilarious, no matter how you’re standing.

    Larry Crowne will flop.

    • Regina George

Of course it will. The star power of Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks isn’t enough to carry a movie.

      • UGH

They’re just not Summer audience fare anymore.

      • Peter

They’re old and tired. And no one cares about them anymore except for the people in retirement homes.

      • fancypants

I’m 23 and will see any movie w/ Tom Hanks. He’s consistently good.

  • jul

    Nice one, Dave! LOL

    • my hero!

HAIL LETTERMAN! Please do more of this like the old days when you were King!

  • Esox

    Twas funny.

  • Annette

    Dave needs to retire.

    • SaraS

No way. He’s the best interview in late night.

  • Rockstarmom

He has had the biggest crush on Julia Roberts since day one. I remember one visit years ago when he got all giggly and could barely even speak. He was all wound up last night.

    • fancypants

But WHY? is the question. Why? It’s not like she’s Halle or Catherine Zeta-Jones.

  • Annette

Given the fact that David has slept with just about every woman on his staff, it is shocking that his son does not already have a sibling to play with.

    • aoyst

mark your calendars, folks! July 1, 2011: the day “fact” and “hyperbole” became interchangeable.

    • Simm Fan

Jealous because he didn’t want to sleep with you, Annette?

    • mmk

can’t stand letterman-never could-he is filthy, nasty, and frankly-lacks good manners. as a mother, I would be ashamed to own him!!!!

      • aoyst

…and yet you seek out articles about him online and spend your precious time commenting on him

  • Brett

Are you really “shocked” by that, Annette?

    • my hero!

      ha ha.

  • Javadude54

New list. Top Ten things that will make Dave flip off his audience.

  • LOL

Dave is still The Man. Tired Jay is old news.

    • Esox

Hey, You folks seen Star Wars?
How come the UFOs always land in Mississippi, and are only seen by Dinkus and his half brother Binkus? How come they never land in Washington DC? Dave was on FIRE last night! love his Leno impression.

  • Dottie

Dave was acting like a real jerk last night, it seems he regressed to his old ‘bad boy’ self that I thought he outgrew years ago. I wonder if he’s off his meds or having some sort of personal trouble- usually he kids around with the audience but is truly gracious to them- now he seems
almost unstable. What’s up with the guy? I wish he’d also drop the Weiner jokes and generally lewd and sophomoric behavior that he’s exhibiting of late. He can be a joy to watch but if this keeps up I’ll be turning off the show.

  • Dottie

(thought I’d posted a comment but didn’t see it, so I’ll say it shorter)
Dave is acting like a real jerk lately. Is he off his meds? In trouble in his personal life? Something’s changed and not for the better. I ‘ve never seen him be so disrespectful to fans, audience, etc. Clean it up Dave, before Leno steamrolls ya again.

    • Kilmer

It’s his doesn’t-give-a-shi! attitude that makes Dave so much fun to watch.

  • Dicazi

I only watch Letterman if someone is on I want to see. Jack Hanna was on with his animals and Letterman interrupted him so often to make a joke, that I almost hit mute. He needs to retire, NOT Leno.

    • Coyote

You’re not familiar with their schtick then, are you? Jack can’t answer a third of Dave’s questions so there’s not much point to him talking. Jack gets to bring on the animals and Dave gets to make fun of Jack. Comedy gold!

      • Dicazi

I get that it’s schtick. But I watch it for the animals and the info that Hannah has, NOT Dave’s lame-ass jokes.

    • Angela

Me too. I’ve only watched Letterman if he’s interviewing someone I like, but he always interrupts them and seems to spend the whole time figuring out how he can turn it back to himself. Leno’s writers may not be great, but at least he’s nice and gracious when he’s talking to people. I think he’s funnier too, but I’m probably one of the only people with that opinion.

  • ichorwhip

Tom Hanks has gone waaaaaay overboard promoting this movie of his, so it must really really suck, and that horsey he co-stars with is so overrated and stuck on herself it makes me want to puke. In fact Larry Crowne may be better than Ipecac.

  • Vicki

David is an a$$!! He needs to take lessons from Leno and even Kimmel!

  • Jerry

By the time 2011 is over, Daniel Craig will be a bigger star than Tom Hanks. No one stays at the top forever. As for Julia, she probably would get the Hunger Games if this was 1991. Now, I predict a Sit Com.
