Who is the coolest member of Jem and the Holograms?

Jem-and-Holograms

Whoooooa Jem! She’s truly outrageous! Truly, truly, truly outrageous! But, come on, is she really? Without the rest of her band, the Holograms, Jem would just be some crazy lady in Diablo Cody’s dreams that has multiple personalities and speaks to inanimate objects on her ear, homeskillet. So which Hologram is cooler than the title character? If you ask me, I’d have to go with Jem/Jerrica’s little sister Kimber, but that’s just because I know how it feels to be an under-appreciated younger sibling. But I’d prefer to let you all decide, PopWatchers. Vote after the jump: Who is the coolest member of Jem and the Holograms? READ FULL STORY »

'So You Think You Can Dance': And the eliminated contestants are...

SYTYCD

Anyone who was secretly hoping that LMFAO would perform an elaborate hip-hop remix of “Aba Daba Honeymoon” while Debbie Reynolds danced with Rage Crew was probably a little bit disappointed during tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Also disappointed: the four contestants who absolutely had to be eliminated tonight in the wake of last week’s controversially elimination-free episode. Six dancers were on the chopping block, and in the end, only two could be saved:  [SPOILERS FROM HERE] READ FULL STORY »

'SYTYCD': Mary Murphy blogs about last night's tear-jerking Top 20 episode -- EXCLUSIVE

Mary-Murphy-Dance

Hey, it’s Mary Murphy, and I hope you read my blog every week. I will be highlighting some of my favorite dances, behind-the-scenes highlights, and any examples of Murphy’s law that decide to pop up. Like let’s take today: On fumes as I headed to the studio in my car running out of time and gas before the big show, but I didn’t want to stop. Luckily, I made it…this time.

First, can I just take a second to talk about last week’s statue number, choreographed by Travis Wall, and danced by Melanie Moore and Markova Germar. You know magic is happening when an entire audience went dead silent. The hair went up on my arms from the very first lift Markova made. I will always remember this number and it will go down in my top 10 of great numbers in eight seasons.  READ FULL STORY »

John Krasinski, Aaron Sorkin developing Chateau Marmont mini-series for HBO

John-Krasinski

There’s nothing I love more than movies about Hollywood. (Sunset Boulevard, Singin’ in the Rain, Ed Wood, Chaplin… ) And, apparently, there’s nothing that Hollywood loves more than movies about Hollywood. So it looks like everyone stands to benefit from this piece of awesome news: John Krasinski’s rep confirmed to EW that The Office actor is working with The Social Network‘s Aaron Sorkin on a mini-series for HBO surrounding the Chateau Marmont, the hotel in Los Angeles that has attracted industry A-listers for decades. (Deadline first broke the news.) Now, it’s far, far too soon to even speculate on casting news or even stars that could feature predominantly in the project inspired by Raymond R. Sarlot and Fred Basten’s history of the hotel, Life at the Marmont. (Sorkin first has to focus on some other projects on his table, including the cable news-set series, More As This Story Develops.) But since Krasinski hopes some of the industry’s best will participate in this “homage to Hollywood,” why not develop a dream cast that could evoke some of the Chateau’s most famous frequenters? My picks after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Ron Howard is working on the 'Spy vs. Spy' movie. Let's pitch him some ideas!

spy_vs_spy

Spy vs. Spy was created by a Cuban exile in the middle of the Cold War, but the appeal of the iconic MAD magazine strip is universal. Two enemies — one dressed all in black, the other all in white — eternally fight each other, using bombs and booby traps. It doesn’t initially seem like film material… but by George, this is Hollywood, and anything is possible! Thus: EW has confirmed that Warner Bros. is currently developing a film adaptation of Spy vs. Spy, to be produced by David Koepp, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard, with Howard also set to direct. The film has not been officially greenlit, although with those names behind the project, Spy vs. Spy is probably just waiting on a finished script.

Here’s the thing: the “story” of Spy vs. Spy is so basic that the film could literally be about anything. It could be a lighthearted comedy, or a darkhearted comedy, or a gritty look at the Cold War, or a movie about aliens for some reason, or even a documentary about the life of Kim Philby. Screenwriter John Kamps (Zathura, Ghost Town) is currently on the project, but to help him along, let’s hear some solid elevator pitches for Spy vs. Spy. Here’s a few to get you started from your pals at EW: READ FULL STORY »

Nudity as marketing for a show about clothing? Counterintuitive. But just about anything’s possible with the help of sexy German supermodel-turned-Project Runway host Heidi Klum.

In a new ad for the ninth season of the Emmy-nominated Lifetime series, Klum boldly bids auf wiedersehen to both clothing and basic safety precautions. Is it just us, or does that pair of scissors look a little too close for comfort? READ FULL STORY »

Comedy podcasts are booming. What are some of your favorites?

These are heady times to be a comedy nerd with an Internet connection. The past couple of years have seen an explosion of comedy podcasts, and in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly (on stands June 24), we profile the man behind one of the best and most-buzzed-about ones out there: stand-up comedian Marc Maron, whose twice-weekly podcast, WTF, features fascinating and often astonishingly raw and intimate conversations with some of the biggest names in comedy (including Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon, and Amy Poehler, among many others) — nearly all of them done in Maron’s cluttered garage in Los Angeles. And WTF is just the tip of a very large iceberg. The fact is, there are so many comedy podcasts now, comedians could spend virtually all of their time just bouncing between them. “It’s like the new comedy circuit,” Patton Oswalt (who frequently shows up as a guest on his friends’ comedy podcasts and really ought to start his own) tells EW. If you’re a newbie to the podcasting universe, here are a few of the biggest and best out there: READ FULL STORY »

'The Onion's Pulitzer campaign shifts into semi-celebrity overdrive

Tom Hanks didn’t start The Onion‘s campaign to win a Pulitzer Prize, but the grassroots movement has really taken off since the Oscar-winner chastised the Pulitzer committee for making him angry. Today, author Neil Gaiman is the latest to join Hanks, Ricky Gervais, Pulitzer-winning writer Dave Barry, Paul Reiser, a cat, and an army of advocates at Americans for Fairness in Awarding Journalism Prizes. “We here at AFAJP (pronounced Affahjjp) are dedicating our lives to exposing the Pulitzer committee’s despicable bigotry against the Onion and making sure that America’s finest news source receives the prize it so richly deserves,” said the organization’s president Stephen Forbeck, in a video. “Americans from all walks of life are standing up and telling the Pulitzer committee to stop the ignorance, stop the bias, and stop the neglect.” Watch some of the latest video pleas after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Cory Monteith opens up about drug problems

Categories: Glee

Turns out Cory Monteith was hardly a teen as clean as Finn Hudson. The Glee star has dropped hints about his checkered teenage years in the past, but in a new Parade magazine cover story, he reveals more than ever about his previous drug use and criminal record. “I’m lucky to be alive,” confessed Monteith, 29.

The Canada native, whose parents divorced when he was seven years old, said he was already skipping school, drinking, and smoking marijuana when he was 13. READ FULL STORY »

Does Alex Freaking Wong deserve to be an All-Star on 'SYTYCD'?

Eagle-eyed viewers of last night’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance noticed a brief audience shot at the end of the show featuring several alumni from past seasons. I personally caught a glimpse of season 5′s Kayla Radomski, season 6′s Kathryn McCormick, and season 7′s Robert Roldan and Kent Boyd, who miraculously still has not been fed past midnight and transformed into a gremlin. And, oh yeah, I also saw Alex Freaking Wong.

Alex, you may recall, is the supernaturally talented contestant from season 7 who occupies two of EW’s Top 5 SYTYCD routines of all time, including the No. 1 slot. He’s also the dancer who only lasted three episodes of the live shows last year, thanks to a lacerated Achilles tendon that forced him to withdraw from the competition and into months of likely grueling work to bring his body back to its former glory. At the time of his injury, SYTYCD exec producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe invited Alex to return to the Las Vegas audition rounds to compete in season 8, but Alex revealed on his Facebook page that he “wasn’t ready to dance” when the Vegas rounds began this season in early April. His appearance in the audience last night, however, has already sparked a lot of SYTYCD fans to ask: Will Alex Freaking Wong be an All-Star this year?  READ FULL STORY »
