French government bans the terms 'Facebook' and 'Twitter' from radio and television

Proving once again that moralistic liberals are exactly as annoying as moralistic conservatives, the French government has banned the words “Facebook” and “Twitter” from radio and television, unless either company is the focus of a story. This essentially means that news organizations can no longer say things like “Find us on Facebook” or “Follow us on Twitter.” According to the Guardian, the French government’s broadcasting authority felt that doing so served as stealth promotion for the two social networking sites, which was unfair all the other social networking sites that no one has ever heard of because everyone already uses Facebook or Twitter. Summer Movie Body Count: 'X-Men: First Class' schools the competition on best deaths

Week 5 of EW’s 2011 Summer Movie Body Count continues with X-Men: First Class. For those of you who do not possess memory-related superpowers, here’s a reminder of the rules. SPOILER ALERT: Things are about to get messy!

Note to self: Next year, fight to do Summer Movie Body Count on the next installment of Kung Fu Panda. Because in the first five minutes of X-Men: First Class, we had two men dead after Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) crushed their metal helmets like beer cans at a frat party (while they were wearing them!), one dead mom (you can’t have a superhero movie without a parental tragedy), and a holocaust. The latter doesn’t count toward our overall total, however, because the deaths happened off-screen. READ FULL STORY »

Sarah Palin doubles-down on Paul Revere history

The battle over the midnight ride of Paul Revere refuses to die, four days after Sarah Palin told a Boston television reporter that the Revolutionary War hero “warned the British that they weren’t going to take away our arms” by “riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells.” While the Internet, political-media critics, and The Daily Showwhich created a specific Twitter hashtag for her — pounced on the former Alaska governor for her misstatement, the Wikipedia website for Paul Revere has become a battleground as some users, presumable Palin supporters, have attempted to edit the history to better accommodate Palin’s description of events.

On Sunday, Fox’s Chris Wallace asked her (video below), “You realize you messed up about Paul Revere, don’t you?” but Palin stuck to her guns. “You know, I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere,” she maintained. READ FULL STORY »

Each week, we invite our Twitter followers to share their 140-character reviews of the weekend’s big opening films in our EW Exit Poll. Not surprisingly, the highly anticipated X-Men: First Class, a prequel to the previous X-Men movies that details the initial friendship between Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender), generated the most reviews. E3: Five Reasons We're Excited (including the new Wii)

The Electronic Entertainment Expo — aka E3, aka Videogame Woodstock, aka Geek-Mecca-That-Is-Not-ComicCon — doesn’t officially kick off until tomorrow, but the fun starts today in Los Angeles, with Microsoft and Sony both slated to hold press events (EW’s Adam Vary is currently live-tweeting from Microsoft’s press extravaganza.). E3 is always full of fun surprises, but here are the five things we’re most excited about. READ FULL STORY »

PopWatch Reality Check: The ol' eyelash on the cheek bit

As someone who’s slipped on a banana peel — twice — I should believe in the impossible, but I’ve got to ask: Has that “You have an eyelash on your cheek, let me get it for you so I can touch your face and stare into your eyes so the audience knows we’re having a moment” bit ever happened to you in real life? It seems to be the new “Let me brush this hair out of your eyes, even though it wasn’t bothering you.” Scott (Tyler Posey) did it to Allison (Crystal Reed) on last night’s series premiere of MTV’s Teen Wolf (pictured). I recall Ben (Adam Scott) doing it to Leslie (Amy Poehler) during their recent road trip on Parks and Recreation (though the joke was that Leslie wanted to avoid that kind of intimacy: “Get away from me… I’m sorry… I’m allergic to fingers”).

I’ve found one colleague who’s had this happen to her, but she admits, “I thought he was lying because it was so corny.” Anyone else? And do guys actually fake it? Smooth. READ FULL STORY »

What was your favorite MTV Movie Awards moment? Poll!

Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com

Another MTV Movie Awards, another chance for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to pretend they’re not dating.

What was your favorite moment from last night? If you’re going to be coy, you have to be clever, like Pattinson laying his celebratory Best Kiss pucker on Taylor Lautner instead of Stewart. It gets my vote. Poll below!  READ FULL STORY »

Tony Awards 2011: We predict the winners

Here’s the easiest prediction we can make about this year’s Tony Awards, which will be presented June 12 at NYC’s Beacon Theatre: Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark will be a recurring punchline for returning host Neil Patrick Harris. The CBS broadcast will also manage to include a number from this still-to-officially-open show, featuring composers Bono and the Edge as well as on-stage Spidey Reeve Carney. Predicting the actual awards isn’t nearly as easy. But in a lot of the major categories, there seem to be some very strong front-runners. Expect The Book of Mormon (pictured left, top) to sweep most of the musical categories, and the British import War Horse (pictured left, bottom) to pick up a fair share of the dramatic awards. Fellow EW critic Melissa Rose Bernardo and I here offer our predictions in all the Tony categories (you’ll see our names after each of our picks). Disagree? Please let us know who you think will win — or should win — in the comments section. (For more Stage coverage, go to EW.com’s Stage hub.)

Best Musical
The Book of Mormon (Melissa, Thom)
Catch Me if You Can
The Scottsboro Boys
Sister Act

The irreverent hit from South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker is a sure thing.

Best Play
Good People (Melissa)
Jerusalem
The Motherf—er With the Hat
War Horse (Thom)

There’s a bit of a horse race in this category, with the equine drama War Horse considered the front-runner for its impressive physical production (if not its rather conventional plotting and dialogue). But some voters seem to be rallying around the smart American scripts of David Lindsay Abaire’s Good People and Stephen Adly Guigis’ The Motherf—er With the Hat. If there’s an upset, look for Good People to win by a nose. READ FULL STORY »

MTV Movie Awards 2011: On the scene for all the wackiness at L.A.'s Gibson Amphitheatre

EW’s Archana Ram already recapped what you saw on television during last night’s Twilight Promotional Show MTV Movie Awards (and asked for your thoughts, too!), but what happened in the house during the always wacky ceremony at L.A.’s Gibson Ampitheatre? Oh, so much, folks — so much! And I’ve got those deets for you, as I was there to experience the madness first hand. There’s lots to talk about: The insane fashions! The beautiful stage! The speech that charmed the crowd! And so much more, but mostly — let’s be honest — it was all just one big plug for Twilight. Read on for a take of what went on behind the scenes, what you didn’t see on your television last night…
