Playboy founder and girl-next-door wrangler Hugh Hefner has been openly tweeting his feelings about the end of his relationship with Crystal Harris — the woman he was all set to marry until a couple days ago. Last night, in a move which could either be interpreted as a lovably droll joke or a surprisingly vicious spurned-lover kiss-off, Hefner tweeted: “Recent events call for a special sticker on the July cover. Look for it on newsstands.” Y’see, Crystal is actually on the cover of the July issue of Playboy… with a headline that proclaims, “Introducing Mrs. Crystal Hefner.” Commence awkward collar pulls, America! This Week's Cover: 'Why I'm Obsessed with Ryan Reynolds, by Ryan Reynolds'

We looked high and low to find just the right writer to pen our cover story on Ryan Reynolds. We needed someone who could match the actor’s sparkling wit, winning charisma, and staggering intelligence, not to mention his deep humility, inspiring humanitarianism, and perfect washboard abs. So we hired Ryan Reynolds.

In this week’s cover story, “Why I’m Obsessed with Ryan Reynolds, by Ryan Reynolds,” the 34-year-old star of Green Lantern plumbs the depths of Ryan Reynolds’ soul. He writes about the actor’s boyhood in Canada (“He spent a great deal of time with his older brothers and, in turn, his brothers were very close to him. Usually within striking distance”). He remembers his first crush (her name was Finona Gorchinsky and she broke Reynolds’s heart — and nearly his neck — during a school bus ride in the eighth grade). And he celebrates his unwavering commitment to environmental issues (“But Reynolds is also careful not to get too self-righteous, and is not one of those finger-wagging celebrities telling you how to live your life. He prefers to put the word out quietly, through the exciting mediums of interpretive dance and Japanese hand fans”).

We don’t usually allow actors to write their own profiles, but hey, what can we say. We’re a little obsessed with Ryan Reynolds, too.

To read the actor’s full biography of himself, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands June 17. Click here to buy this issue.

'Hot in Cleveland' returns to TV Land: You know what's more fun than watching it? Being there!

You know what’s more fun than watching TV Land’s delightfully throwbacky sitcom Hot in Cleveland, which returned to television last night? Being on set of the episode that aired last night! And not even that, but being there not exactly as press, but as an extra.

If you watched last night’s episode “Where’s Elka?” and watched close (and, you know, had any remote idea of what I look like, which you likely don’t), you would have seen me a couple of times. Albeit, very, very briefly, in a couple of the scenes where Joy (Jane Leeves), Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli), and Victoria (Wendie Malick) stumble into an Amish bar (Victoria postulates that it’s an “old-timey gay bar”) looking for Elka (Betty White). I’m dressed as an Amish bar dude. Did you see me? The photographic evidence of my presence — sitting at the table of guys that flash to when the gals enter the bar, and then later, next to guest star George Wendt — is below.

'Doctor Who': Mysterious plans for the 50th anniversary season could mean fewer episodes in 2012

The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the beloved British time traveler, arrives in 2013. As initially reported by io9, BBC executive Danny Cohen was quoted saying that there are already plans in place for some sort of special run of the series (which currently stars Matt Smith) in 2013. This seems to echo comments made by Who executive producer Steven Moffat, who tweeted in regards to the next season of Who: “I’ve got a plan and I’m NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS” (capitals his). However, Cohen also claimed that these anniversary plans might mean that there will be less episodes of Doctor Who in 2012. READ FULL STORY »

Watch the 'Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D' commercial starring Robin Williams

If you occasionally find yourself humming the wondrous little tunes from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, then A) you’re such a nerd! and B) me too. Turns out that Robin William is also a fan of the Zelda franchise, as shown by a new advertisement for the about-to-be-released 3DS version of Ocarina. “The first time I saw you, I knew we’d be linked forever,” says Williams. “For you, I’d travel to the four corners of the world…I became your hero.” It seems like he’s talking to Princess Zelda…but there’s a rather lovely twist. (Also fun: Williams appears to have stolen Brad Pitt’s beard, just like just like Matthew Fox’s – it’s for his Broadway role in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) Check out the video below: READ FULL STORY »

Kim Kardashian's wedding registry: Hurry up and buy the $195 ice tongs before someone else does!

What do you get the person who has everything on their wedding day? If it’s Kim Kardashian, a series of pricey vases and a clock that tells extra special time (it better anyway, it costs over $1,000), apparently.

People.com just listed what is reportedly Kardashian’s gift registry for her impending wedding to Kris Humphries, and PopWatchers, there are no Pool Party Ceramic Chip Dip sets to be found. I know, I was surprised, too!

Instead, the many baffling items on the registry include: READ FULL STORY »

Michael Buble reschedules concert to attend Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, remains Canadian

Categories: Music, Sports, Television, Waiting

We’ve always liked Michael Buble, and now we know why: He announced to fans yesterday that he was rescheduling tonight’s concert at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun to Thursday night so he could attend Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in his hometown, Vancouver. Technically, the message on Bublé’s website says the change in date is to “accommodate all ‘Die-Hard’ hockey fans in the Northeast, so they can view game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals,” which airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. It’s convenient for him that his beloved Canucks are facing off against the Boston Bruins so that sounds somewhat altruistic instead of entirely (and wonderfully) self-indulgent.

Bublé’s fans, at least the ones who know him well, will likely forgive him the inconvenience: READ FULL STORY »

Russell Crowe might play Jor-El in the new Superman movie. What this means for 'Man of Steel.'

The producers of 1978′s Superman: The Movie famously hired a Marlon Brando — an Oscar-winning actor as famous for his offscreen shenanigans as for his indelible onscreen performances — to play Superman’s father Jor-El. Though Brando got top billing, his role in the film is really little more than a flashy cameo. Still, he’s a pivotal part of the movie — leftover footage of Brando was resurrected in Bryan Singer’s seriously-watch-it-again gem Superman Returns — and Brando’s participation in the original Superman gives some added resonance to the news, reported by Variety, that Oscar-winning Russell Crowe is currently in talks to play Jor-El in Man of Steel, next year’s Supes reboot.

Warner Bros., producer Christopher Nolan, and director Zack Snyder had no comment on the casting news, but it’s worth exploring what the news might mean for the movie. READ FULL STORY »

Why 'Parks and Rec,' 'Community,' and 'Justified' can hope for an Emmy nod: Thank the TCA Awards!

Parks-Recreation

Earlier this week, nominations for the 27th annual Television Critics Association Awards were announced. With Emmy nomination ballots not due until June 24 (nominations are announced July 14), we got to wondering what the critics’ picks could tell us about the Academy’s. After comparing the last 10 years’ worth of nominations, here are four predictions:

• When a primetime comedy makes it into the TCA’s all-encompassing Program of the Year category — which has only happened four times between 2001 and 2010 — it always earns an Emmy nomination. That means Parks and Recreation — the sole comedy in TCA’s 2011 Program of the Year category — should earn its first Emmy nod for Outstanding Comedy Series.  READ FULL STORY »
