MoviePass to allow moviegoers to see as many flicks as they want a month for $50. Worth it?

If you’re anything like us, you’re going to spend the dog days of summer planted indoors, namely at an air conditioned movie theater, seeing everything Read the full post.

If this was a few summers/years ago – yeah, I would have done it – we were going to the movies a lot – sometimes 2-3 a week/weekend – but then there good movies to go see

save your money, buy a ps3 or 3d blu-ray player, any movie comes out on dvd/blu-ray about 3 months after it get in the theaters. Here is an even better idea, get a job at the theater or have a family member work there, you get in free and see all the movies you want. Thats what i did when my bro worked at a theater years ago. Saw a ton of movies and it did not cost me a dime. Those were the days!!

More realistically, i’ll save the $50 and buy all 4-5 for the same price on DVD that i can re-watch the rest of my life in the comfort of my own house. Seems like a lot of people are echoing this sentiment that it’s overpriced.

You can get new DVDs for $10?

Movies are $12.75 Canadian in the city I live in. I would totally be interested in something like this. And yes I do go to more than 4-5 movies a month.

I would definitely be interested in something like this if I lived in a metropolitan area that had a variety of movies to see at any given time, i.e. An art house scene…. As it is, I live in an area where all the theaters in a 100-mile radius all play the same “popular” movies. Which begs the question, would art houses even participate in such a promotion? Or would it just be the big chains?

Some months there are lots of movies I want to see, some months not so much. I think it would be a push

It would not be worth it for me. Especially as I tend to support my local cinema, which runs films slightly behind the chains but which is much more reasonably priced. ($3 for the matinee, $5 for the evening. And with decently priced concessions to boot.) And honestly, for most movies, I don’t mind waiting until they make it to Netflix, so I can’t imagine getting enough use out of this for the money.

I just don’t see how this would be cheaper than paying for movies individually. I go to a movie about once a week, and even at $10 each, that’s only $40/month. Sometimes there aren’t movies I want to see, so paying $50 to see 3 or 4 movies (or less) would be really stupid.

From a business standpoint. I don’t think this would be viable. Netflix movies, many of them recent releases, are available for eight dollars a month and you don’t have to pay for concession food, parking, sitters for the kids, etc. This looks like a idea that wasn’t thought out.
