Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, and... Vin Diesel (!?) among 2012 Walk of Fame inductees

It’s time to rev up those “2012 is the apocalypse” jokes again: Fast Five star Vin Diesel is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, before the likes of, say, Bono, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert Redford. (We’re chalking Diesel’s inclusion up to his awesome break dancing skills… haven’t seen Bono do this, now have we?!)

But Diesel is just one of the stars in the very eclectic pack just chosen by The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to be inducted to the Walk of Fame in 2012. Oscar-winner Kate Winslet will get her own star thanks to an impressive acting career, as will other Motion Picture inductees Scarlett Johansson, Malcolm McDowell, Sumner Redstone, and Pixar wiz John Lasseter.

Interestingly enough, Jennifer Aniston will also be given a star for her work in movies, but as any Friends fans might argue, the actress is, and always will be, Rachel Green. Why not place her in theĀ  Television category instead? (The 2012 stars in that section included Matt Groening, Valerie Bertinelli, Mariska Hargitay, Patricia Heaton, Marg Helgenberger, Walter Koenig, and Adam West.)

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may not have been deterred by Aniston’s big-screen career, but they opted to place Jennifer Lopez in the Recording category, and rightfully so, alongside Pepe Aguilar, AMERICA, Boyz II Men, Hal David, David Foster, Vince Gill, and Ann and Nancy Wilson. Posthumous inductees for the 2012 ceremonies, which have no dates scheduled as of yet, are Richard Burton and Barry White.

So tell us, PopWatchers, which star are you most excited/surprised to see get inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year? Let us know in the comments section below.

Kate winslet deserves one. Jennifer aniston and vin diesel ? their stars should be right next to each other.

    • SaraS

Jennifer Aniston definitely deserves one; she will be a household name long after she’s done acting.
But yeah.. Vin Diesel? They’re just handing these things out. That’s ridiculous!!! So glad EW commented on it.

If Aniston’s star was in the tv category I’d say she deserved it. But immortalizing her as a movie star? Heeeeeell no!

  • Clarissa

There is no real criteria to be selected for a star beyond five years in whatever field and a nomination which can come from anyone as long as someone is willing to pay the fee to make and install the star.

  • Cris

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

  • Joe

Aniston, Lopez, and Winslet all make sense to me. They’re huge stars and have been for well over a decade or more. But Scarlett Johansson? Seriously?! Besides a few promising movies early on, she is best known for her -alleged- beauty and who she sleeps with.

    • What3

Scarlet has been nominated for an Oscar unlike Lopez or Aniston.
She’s done more acting (amazing as that is) than either Aniston or Lopez.

      • Brianne

She hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar. Never.

This is weird. Jennifer Lopez is much better at acting than at singing (if you could even call what she does “singing”) and she became the first latino woman to become an unqualified movie star (Yes, I have heard of Rita Moreno and Maria Conchita Alonso, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz, but those women never got multimillion dollar paychecks to star in films with their sole name above the title) Why is she in the recording category? And no matter how many hit films she’s done, Jennifer Aniston created an iconic character in an iconic TV show that will live on long after her movies have been forgotten. Why is she in the Movies category?

Kate winslet and john lasseter deserve more than one star

  • MD

Kate yes the other two – wth?!?

  • Hermione

I guess I don’t understand when you say Robert Redford doesn’t have star. Um, what?? How is that possible?!

  • Justin P, Esq.

Vin Diesel? And Scarlett? She’s hot though.

    • ikagirl

Yep, finally. I agree, it’s about time Adam West got his star.

  • Heather

FINALLY Batman gets one! YAY ADAM WEST!!

    • ks

I can’t believe it has taken this long

  • Cate

Aniston does not deserve a star, at least in movies. She can only play one character, and most of her movies get panned.

    • Joe

They may not be critical successes but her movies do not flop the way people make them out to. Marley and Me, Along Came Polly, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Break Up, Bruce Almighty, and Just Go With It were all successful at the box office. And she’s one of the biggest stars in the world regardless of how her movies do.

      • Lauren

Thank you, Joe, for being the first person to comment on this post who has any common sense!

      • What3

Yes, they are all successes ONLY because of her no thanks to the successful co-stars like Jim Carrey, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller,
Adam Sandler, a cute dog or a popular book. Aniston fans are on crack–she’s a co-star–not a mega star in her own right. She hasn’t carried a movie by herself unlike Reese, Sandra and Julia.

  • Jane

The whole Walk of Fame thing is basically the result of anyone nominating you – even a fan club – and a $30,000 fee, paid by those who make the nomination. Which means a network could pay for a celeb to get their star just to aid the promotion of film. It’s all PR people, which takes any ounce of honor in it.

    • myma

Exactly. Its all a paid publicity stunt. Robert Redford doesn’t have one probably because he doesn’t want one.

  • james york

All I can say is that I am surprised that it has taken this long for Kate Winslet to get a star on the walk of fame. I agree, Anniston, regardless of her films is a major household name and she really does deserve a star, at the very least for her contribution to the tabloid press over the years.
