The beauty of iTunes is that you can shop a la carte. The interesting thing is when you purchase an older song and find yourself wondering if anyone else has ever done it before or after you. Let’s use the power of the Internet to find out. List the songs you’d like to think someone else has bought. If you see a track on someone else’s list that you own, let them know they’re not alone. This is a shame-free zone. To prove it, here’s my list:
Kenny Loggins’ “Meet Me Half Way” (from Over the Top)
Kenny Rogers & Sheena Easton’s “We’ve Got Tonight”
Paul Anka’s “Hold Me ‘Til the Morning Comes” featuring Peter Cetera
Robin Zander and Ann Wilson’s “Surrender to Me” (ah, Tequila Sunrise)
David Foster and Marilyn Martin’s “And When She Danced (Love Theme from Stealing Home)”*
*This isn’t actually on my iPod because it’s available album-only, and I haven’t been able to rationalize paying $9.99 for it. Yet.

Harry Belafonte “Jump in the Line” Due to that last scene in Beetlejuice
OMG “How Bizarre”
Purchased in memorium after I found out the singer died
Oh and Mungo Jerry “In the Summertime” Cause it’s festive
I have this one too.
I have this one too–love it.
I have all three of those.
I have this too! From EW’s 100 Greatest Summer songs list!
I’ve got How Bizarre and In the Summertime.
I’ve got How Bizarre too.
Tyler Collins – “Girls Nite Out”
I still love that song as well as that first album she did in 1989! It was a hit in early 1990. Very underrated singer, but she could sing! She did another album in 1992, but it didn’t perform as well.
I have How Bizarre too!
Have Jump in the Line and Day-O on mine.
me too
I totally have Jump in the Line on my iPod- I heard it when I ran this morning!
I LOVE “Hold Me Til The Morning Comes,” “Surrender to Me” and “When She Danced (from Stealing Home”! They’re three of may all-time favorites. The thing I don’t understand is having to rationalize buying the “Stealing Home” soundtrack. The first time I ever saw it in the record store (those were the days), I snapped it up. I think it was $12.99. And worth every penny!
Love the Paul Anka/Cetera song. It’s not on my iPod, but it is on my Mac.
I WANT THAT!!! I remember when it came out I thought it was so outdated but also awesome. had forgotten about it.
Safety Dance, because it really embarrases anyone in my car…
I don’t have this song but I’m going to buy it right now. I love this song.
My boyfriend just bought it. Cool.
I have Safety Dance. And it’s on my recently played.
LOVE The Safety Dance!!!! Not afraid to admit it, but one of my ALL TIME guilty pleasures.
I have “Safety Dance,” “Tarzan Boy,” and “Funky Town.”
I not only have Safety Dance, but I also have Men Without Hats’ classic “Pop Goes The World”.
I have Safety Dance. Not only the original, but I admit, the Glee version too!
I have both as well!
oh yes I have both also!
Ugh Glee did that too?
I have both too!!
have it.
I have this one, and it’s in my Top 25 most played.
One of my most played songs….
Banditos and MahNahMahNah from The Muppet Show. With an IPOD earworm does have a cure.
I’ve got MahNahMahNah in a mashup. Not sure if that counts tho.
Mahna mahna by Cake is also extremely good (on their B sides album from a few years ago).
I have the Cake version as well as the original Muppet version.
I have that one – the one from the Muppet show!
I have Mahna Mahna, too! and Rainbow Connection, and the Muppet Theme Song.
I definitely have Mahna Mahna on a Muppets Greatest Hits album. Yes, I love the Muppets THAT much.
I have the Muppet Show one too! AND the Muppet Theme song:)
No, but I have Heaven from the Footloose soundtrack
You are sooooo not alone! I thought I was the only Stealing Home lover!
Add another to the Stealing Home list and also someone else who can’t justify the whole album purchase. Though I love Poison Ivy too.
Same. I’ve had a crush William McNamara since I was 11 because of this movie. Where the eff did he ever go anyway? I don’t think I’ve seen him since he played crazy in Copycat. I love you, Billy Boy!
LOVE this movie and William McN. Does it count that I used to have the soundtrack on cassette?
More fun: Delinquent Habits “Return of the Tres”.
“Here come the Horns” and “Tres Delinquentes” are in my ipod.
Damnit, I REALLY need Kenny Loggins to get back into the soundtrack biz. No one did it better than him and Peter Cetera.
I have all the Kenny Loggins songs and Peter Cetera’s. No shame here!
I absolutely agree. I love Loggins’ Playin’ with the Boys and Cetera’s Glory of Love.
Put me down for Cetera’s Glory of Love too.
I have “Glory of Love.”
I have Cetera’s “Glory of Love” and “Daddy’s Girl” (this song was used at the end of 3 Men and a Baby, one of my favorite childhood movies) on my ipod.
Banditos (multiple versions)
I’m a Barbie Girl
Barbie Girl, yes, I have it
Yep, Barbie Girl. Totally have that one, great song to sing in the car with your friends with the windows down.
Beep Beep…little nash rambler.
Day-o, manahnama from muppets, cats in the cradle, and jump in the line are my guilty pleasures.
‘Step by Step’ from the NKOTB BEFORE they hooked up with BSB…
‘Hunger City’, ‘Howard the Duck’, & ‘Don’t Turn Away’ from the Howard the Duck Soundtrack…
“Star Wars Disco” by Meco….
I definitely have “step by step” among other great New Kids samplings. And it makes me happy every timeit comes on:)
I have Step by Step and several other NKOTB songs, but they’re all from the NKOTBSB album.
I don’t have any of these on my IPOD, but I had to make a comment in regards to the Howard the Duck reference. I was reminiscing about Howard the Duck the other day and finally realize just how creepy that movie was. The last time I watched it I was probably 10 and I guess the concept of a Duck and a Human kissing and other unmentioned, but insinuated intimate acts just went over my head. I have to admit I’m sure I would love the song if I heard it again.
I have a lot of NKOTB, from their “Greatest Hits” album. (Blush)
i don’t have these yet, but seeing them here makes me want to get them. I love NKOTB back in the day
I heard the New Kids’ Step By Step on a best of ’90s mix CD on the New Jersey Turnpike in summer 2006 in New Jersey! I wanted to hear it in a different state other than North Carolina, where I’m from. I got the Boston feel of the group when I heard it in that state that year!
I have the Star Wars Disco by Meco too! I thought that one was so obscure that no one else would have it. Wow.
OMG Howard the effing Duck – one of my fave movies!!! Damn…I’m gonna go get these songs…Nostalgic overload!
MMMBop (Hanson)
Yep, have it.
“MMMbop,” “Where’s the Love,” “Weird”
Hanson performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live just last night! They were performing a song off their new album. It’s good that they’re still performing and on their own terms.
MMMbop is one of my most frequently played songs on my iPod!! Definite guilty pleasure. My 17-yr-old son makes fun of me every time I start singing and bopping along!
All of these plus “This Time Around”, “Penny and Me”, and three songs off their newest album
I have a lot of Hanson, spanning five albums.
I haev every single song Hanson has ever released. I’m not ashamed. They may have started out as creepy androgynous teenyboppers but their music has evolved and grown with them. I love their most recent album and it’s a stalwart in my car cd player.
oh yeah…sheena easton/kenny rogers..1983 major crush music
“Written in the Stars” by Westlife
I LOVE Westlife. Not many people in the US are familiar with them. I guess I just loved the boy bands back in the day.
OMG Westlife. Not currently on my iPod, but it should be. I know I have some somewhere on my computer.
“Feed the Birds”, Julie Andrews on the “Mary Poppins” soundtrack. Just this morning, June 16th I was driving to work thinking about it and downloaded and played it on my iPhone. I have the Blu-Ray movie but that song really touches me (yes, I feed the birds….)
Hahaha!! We sang that song in high school… LOVE IT. Julie Andrews had such control over her voice.
I bought Feed the Birds after watching that movie last year. LOVE that song! Other people don’t understand how amazing it is!
That song always made me so sad when I watched the movie!
I have Feed the Birds on the Mary Poppins Broadway Soundtrack.
I have the entire Mary Poppins movie soundtrack on my iPod, actually. I’ve commented on about four different posts already… Does this mean my iPod is entirely guilty pleasure songs?
I also have feed the birds, have had it for years! very tender…also when you wish upon a star!
