About two weeks ago, I pondered (jokingly) how Castle should resolve the cliffhanger that it left us fans on. Read the full post.

'Supernatural': How they SHOULD start next season

My biggest hope is for a redemption arc for Castiel. I will be really irritated if they turn him completely evil, or have him die out so that Dean can angst. That would just be lazy storytelling.
good question, Well they need to resolve the kneel down and love me bit I think Dean will see a spark of te real Cas there and do as he says the others will follow suit while looking at Dean as though he’s nuts and then Cas will pop off somewhere with Crowley. Dean will try and figure out what’s going on and discover that one of Michael’s weapons could have been used giving him new hope. As a result Sam and Bobby will help recruit hunters, and maybe even a couple decent demons and angels to fight along with Cas which will lead to an ultimate battle where they at long last stand by his side.
I would like to go back to the good ole days, but obviously, we still need a monster-of-the-season for the boys to hunt to give that season a meaning.
And I would really like for Castiel to lose his powers and just be human for a while. Experience life (as humans do) in it’s most purest form (without all the Angel crap blocking it).
Aliens. Winchesters vs. Aliens.
I don’t get complaints about “back to MOTW”. A lot of S6 was “monster of the week”, and those were the episodes everyone complained about. There were only about 5 Castiel-heavy episodes. Castiel/angels were hardly in S6, which made it weird that Castiel was the “big bad”.
I hope that SPN just doesn’t do “big bad” in S7. Past seasons had quests for the season, like “find dad”, or “save Dean’s soul”. I’d like something more rich than “kill Chuthulu”.
Castiel was a major reason I watch SPN. He added a whole different flavor of heroism, and added another magic dimension. If it’s old, and you want to replace, OK. But, I don’t see something as good to replace it with.
I appear to be in the minority. I prefer the episodes that move the overall season arch forward. Monster of the week can be very Murder-She-Wrote Formulaic.
Okay – here it goes. Cas has lost it, thinking he’s God. Dean, the lovable man of action he is, can think of only one thing that can possibly bring Cas back to his senses – that’s right – a full on lips kiss. Cas will be reeling from having his personal space so ruthlessly invaded – and – whoopsy – he releases the souls all right – all over the place, including the new Big Bad – an invisible, primordial monster. We see her footprints and the damage she does as she blows through a wall, but not her true horror. This monster was at least as old as Eve, possibly her more montrous twin sister (hey, I think its okay to shamelessly steal from Lovecraft). Nothing works against her – the demons are powerless, and yes, even the angels are powerless against her and no one is safe. Only God or Death may be a match for this doozy of a MOW.
I want to see Cas redeemed with the help of the brothers, especially Dean. Not only because I love the character, but also because it would be the best for the story, the best for Dean and Sam as characters. Some people say that they should just kill Cas like if he was some generical villain. Don’t they see that this would ruin Dean and Sam as characters? All the talk about family, Dean saying that Cas is family and then treating him like they treated someone like Ruby? After all the times he saved both brothers? After everything that he left behind just to help them? Not to love a character just seems to make a few people ignore all the context of the character in the show! Treat Cas as nothing but a villain would be ridiculous. I know the show is about Dean and Sam, but I really don’t like Sam. Pretend that Sam could be put aside of the show like any other character. I still wouldn’t want it to happen, because it would be bad for the general context of the show. If something like this would happen, I at least would want the character to be treated with respect. And that’s what I want to Cas. I really don’t want that he leaves the show, but if this really has to happen, I expect to see the character beeing treated like he deserves. Because after everything he went trough, he earned that right. See people treating important characters like nothing just because they don’t like them is so frustrating. I still hope that they don’t kill him ou make he leave the show forever. He is such a great character, so many people wouldn’t care so much if he wasn’t. I can totally understand that the focus of the show are Dean and Sam. But I just don’t see why that means that Cas can’t stay. Turn him into human, make his grace left his body with the souls. Show him learning how to be a human and how to be a hunter. He just would really show up sometimes, when the brothers visit him ou take him with them to have more pratice. I’m pretty sure the writers can think in something that will let everybody as happy as they can let us be. But just see him being treated with the respect he deserves would make me less miserable.
Sandra, LOVE your recaps. They’re extremely witty and always fun to read. I strongly agree with your beach proposal! The other posters have thrown out some good ideas. I’ve watched the show from the beginning, and always that that there was room in the Winchesters’ world for some strong female characters who weren’t damsels in distress, monsters, or love interests. If they were well-written and well-acted, I believe that the show’s large female fan base would embrace it. If they’ve got to write women in as girlfriends, it’s about time that Bobby got some action too.
I do wish they would reconsider; this will seriously affect my enjoyment of the show and I may not be able to continue watching. I have struggled with depression for several years but had been going through a good patch for a while now. After the finale and the news of Misha’s demotion I relapsed for two weeks and then again for a couple of days, and I fear that I won’t be able to keep watching the show next season for my own health. I know it’s pathetic and dangerous to pin so much onto a show, but my enjoyment of the show, characters, actors and fandom is one of the few things that has kept me going over the years and it will pain me greatly to give that up. While I appreciate it is the writers’ prerogative to create their own art, I wish they would consider how greatly the show can affect those watching.
On a less personal note, while the show is ultimately about Sam and Dean, and I have a great love for those characters, I feel this will have a detrimental effect on the show. The relationship between the brothers has been rehashed so many times over the years that it has become slightly stale and needs the support of other characters. It is a shame that so many promising, entertaining characters are written off the show. Castiel has been a great addition and his relationship with Dean has become just as popular with some fans as that of the brothers. The writers seem to feel that the show is only about the Winchesters and no one else is truly necessary, but to many (although I do appreciate not all!) Castiel has become equally indispensable and loved. Season 4 enjoyed a renewed burst of enthusiasm among the fandom and critics due in large part to the freshness brought by Castiel’s introduction and the new, compelling Dean-Castiel relationship in which they could become invested. This past season has not been well received (although I have enjoyed it more than most), but the more popular episodes, for the most part, contained a decent amount of Misha/Castiel and I don’t think this is a coincidence.
My hope for the show is that Castiel becomes human as part of a redemption arc. This gives a fitting punishment for his pride, explores a storyline that was not given a chance in season 5, and solves the problem of a too-powerful ally able to kill the MOTW in the first few minutes!
I agree–Chuck is NOT God. I never believed he was.
SUPERNATURAL has to be progressive, a show of changing storylines. If they go back to a season 1, a lot of people are going to get bored. You need a large, overlapping story arc to keep things interesting.
Cas is fine as a third wheel, kind of annoying as the deux ex machina guaranteed to keep the boys alive, but for me, the Winchester brothers are what keeps SUPERNATURAL the show I will watch until the bitter end, whenever that turns out to be.
Love,
Robin
I reckon all those souls are going to like implode inside Castiel or something in the opening episode and his original ‘I-am-God’ plan is gonna go down the toilet. No way can someone have THAT much power inside them and not be badly affected by it. Still, I’m not turning my nose up at some hurt!Cas
.
On another note, am I the only one who’s slightly worried about this Butch Cassidy theme? I’ve seen numerous interviews with people involved in Supernatural talking about Dean and Sam going out ‘Butch-and-Sundance’ style when and if (God forbid) Supernatural does finish for good. Just because we’ve only just got Season 7 does not mean that it’s too early to start thinking about Season 8.
Cas has only borrowed the God title. I believe Crowely is God and was also the prophet. Not once have we ever seen a demon exit or enter Crowely .
I believe Deans amulet will hold a story line to Crowely’s True identity
It should totally start with Cas going “LOL JK Dean, you said I need more humor”
but atlas that will never happen
Im not going to stop watching it because of what has been done to Cas character, while I will really miss the old Cas, maybe this one will be enjoyable too. Who knows
You know what would be really cool? If they found out that the reason the Leviathans are so hard to kill is because they have shards of angel grace in them, and if they found a way to kill them and then the monsters melt or get spat out or whatever, and buried in all that black slop is this little glimmer of bright white light. Then Dean and Sam could collect all of it and find out it’s Castiel’s grace and that Castiel is wandering around somewhere, Fallen and with amnesia because his grace wasn’t just forced out, it was ripped out; the trauma rattled him in the head, and Falling just helped that along the way.
So Dean and Sam get Castiel’s grace together and all through the season they hear rumors about a guy who resembled the false God in jail or in a hospital or SOMEthing, and go to him to return his grace and then he’s Cas again! Hoorayyyyyyy
