Should 'Law & Order: SVU' just end already?

The twelfth season of Law & Order: SVU ended just a week ago, but the invincibly popular series has turned completely upside-down in that time. In the wake of reports that Mariska Hargitay would be limiting her time on the show next season, EW confirmed last night that Christopher Meloni will not be returning to SVU in the fall. Of course, the Law & Order franchise has weathered cast changes before; witness the parade of wry detectives on the original series, or the curiously protean Criminal Intent (which was really three series in one: a gonzo procedural starring Vincent D’ Onofrio, a bland procedural starring Chris Noth, and a desperately underrated curio starring Jeff Goldblum.)

It’s a fair bet that Dick Wolf is already auditioning beloved New York character actors to replace Meloni, and the head of NBC has talked openly about seeking someone (Jennifer Love Hewitt?) to take over for Hargitay. But would you want to watch an SVU without its original stars? READ FULL STORY »

Bill O'Reilly has officially given Lady Gaga his seal of approval

Breaking: Papa Bear just might be a closet Little Monster. During the “Pinheads and Patriots” segment of last night’s O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly named Lady Gaga a patriot — apparently, he admired the way the singer chowed down on one of Dave Letterman’s note cards during her bizarre appearance on The Late Show. “I wish I had thought of that when I was on the Letterman program,” O’Reilly declared, looking amused. “I would have done that.” Watch the video below.

Jimmy Kimmel and Boyz II Men serenade Oprah Winfrey

Are you finding it difficult to imagine a world without Oprah Winfrey ruling daytime TV? You’re not alone. On last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host got together with his pals in Boyz II Men to serenade Oprah in song form. The name of the song? “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Oprah Winfrey.”

“I’ll miss the way you gave out cars,” hums the quartet, “I’ll miss your fluctuating weight.” Hey, they’re singing what we’re all thinking! Check out the video after the jump… READ FULL STORY »

'DWTS' finalists celebrate on 'GMA', 'sex on a stick' clip makes Maks blush: Watch!

Dancing With the Stars‘ final three couples arrived on the set of Good Morning America to streamers and confetti. That’s enough of a reason to watch the clip below. But the interview had some highlights as well: Winner Hines Ward admitted he was once so scared of dancing he skipped his prom, second runner-up Chelsea Kane happily shared the story of The Price is Right security busting her for spinning the wheel in her hot pink cha-cha dress, and runner-up Kirstie Alley said she’s happy but not quite finished with her goal going into the competition — “making my ass smaller.” READ FULL STORY »

How quickly did Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina choose their first songs for the American Idol performance finale? Were they familiar with the songs their own Idols picked for them? How have they changed this season? What are the biggest differences between season 10 and the seasons before it? In the final entry of our ongoing behind-the-scenes series, American Idol associate music director and arranger Michael Orland answered these questions and more while discussing last night’s Top 2 performance finale with EW. (Vocal coach and arranger Debra Byrd, who usually also contributes to this column, did not work with Scotty or Lauren this week.)

For a decade, Orland has been on the front lines with the contestants, from Hollywood Week to the grand finale. He’s worked with the contestants on their respective songs, helping them shine on the Idol stage and in front of a national TV audience. Check out his insights below: READ FULL STORY »

'The Voice' Battle poll: Which duet was best?

the_voice_320.jpg

Leave it to The Voice to offer something for everyone. Last night’s Battle Round featured songs from diverse eras and genres, and though the pairings didn’t always make the songs their own, at least they kept us guessing. (Can 16-year-old Raquel really deliver that deep Rihanna note?) Serabee and Dia’s version of “You Can’t Hurry Love” was bizarre — Cee Lo’s word — but Devon and Rebecca both held up strong singing Radiohead’s “Creep,” a true test for any rock vocalist. The trio “duets” continue to feel unbalanced, though Tori & Taylor advanced despite sounding deferential to Kelsey in their performance of “Unwritten.”

But what duet did you like best? Which would you want to hear again and again on your iPod? Vote below. READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Scotty and Lauren duke it out in the Nokia, on the scene for the performance finale

In seasons past, the scene outside the Nokia Theater LA Live in the hour leading up to the performance finale resembled a kind of carnival of Idols past — Hey, it’s Anoop! And… that one kooky girl from Hollywood week! No, the other one! — with a general feeling of excitement and occasion stirring among the crowd waiting to get into the theater. Perhaps I’m just projecting my own indifferent indifference about the season 10 finale here (I simply don’t care about the fact that I don’t care), but yesterday’s scene was far more subdued in comparison. I did not catch sight of Idol alumni milling about the courtyard in the hope someone will recognize them; I felt no spark of anticipation bouncing around the multitudes as they calmly waited in orderly lines to get inside.
