The end is here, Smallvillers. So to celebrate this momentous occasion — the cap on a 10 year journey from child to hero — I say we mourn not. Rather, we celebrate…with a quote-a-thon!

Share your favorites below. I’ll start with the one I feel is most appropriate to kick things off:  READ FULL STORY »

'Brothers & Sisters' is canceled. Re-live the final moment.

Brothers & Sisters will not be returning to ABC in the fall. Something tells us the producers knew the season 5 finale would likely be the series finale when they ended it with Nora quoting George Eliot in voiceover at Sarah’s wedding — “It’s never too late to be what you might have been” — and dancing to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” In case you missed it, watch the final moment of the series below. RIP, Brothers & Sisters. You were no longer the show we fell in love with, so we can’t pretend we’re devastated to see you go, but we did spend many a Sunday night enjoying your Walker family dinner fights and wine consumption. (At least we still have Cougar Town.)  READ FULL STORY »

Johnny Depp can dance with ladies, bears, and hats. Is he our Fred Astaire?

I’m a sucker for the parlor game of pairing today’s biggest movie actors with a comparable star from another age: Tom Hanks is Jimmy Stewart, George Clooney is Cary Grant, you get the idea. But I’ve always stumbled over Johnny Depp. Errol Flynn? Clark Gable? Depp’s career is so unusual, so unpredictable, that’s it’s difficult to find another who’s walked a similar path. But in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘ director Rob Marshall said he sees someone else in his Capt. Jack Sparrow: Fred Astaire.  READ FULL STORY »

Now that 'V' is canceled, what should Elizabeth Mitchell do next?

Like an adorable child forced by love and honor to shoot the beloved family dog that has gone mad from rabies, ABC has finally canceled V. I can’t say I’m too unhappy about the end of the alien-invasion reboot. The show didn’t really have much going for it, besides a completely insane series finale that hilariously killed half the main cast. More importantly, the show’s demise gives series standout Elizabeth Mitchell the chance to find another job on a different TV show. Mitchell was by far the best thing about V, and it seems like she’d be a great addition to any TV series. But what would you like to see Elizabeth Mitchell do next? READ FULL STORY »

'True Blood' promo video: Does this look like the sexiest season yet?

Oh, cast of True Blood, how I wanna do bad things to you. (Especially you, Joe Manganiello.)

As per the video below, you can see that the pecs have all come out to play when True Blood finally returns. Yes, waiting sucks, but thankfully, it’s only Bon Temp(s)orary. Oh, c’mon; humor me. I’ve been saving that.

Back on subject: There are six shirtless shots in the 30 second-preview you see below, breaking some sort of record, I’m sure. But it also fills me with great anticipation for the truly hot summer. I’m going to stop before I pun again. Just watch:  READ FULL STORY »

Nazis! In! Spaaaaaaaace! Check out the totally bananas 'Iron Sky' teaser

iron_sky

Iron Sky is a film with a fascinating backstory. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, it’s one of the first feature films with a budget that mostly derives from “cloud financing,” donations made over the internet. However, the film also has an equally fascinating frontstory: Nazis on the Moon! As seen in a just-released teaser, Iron Sky follows a society of national-socialists who fled Germany for the dark side of the moon in 1945, and their plans to launch a full-scale attack (or “meteroblitzkrieg”) on Earth. The teaser is reminiscent tone-wise of the Grindhouse faux-trailer Werewolf Women of the S.S., complete with a lead role for crazy-eyed B-movie all-star Udo Kier. Needless to say, the bad taste is off the charts here, but if Iron Sky is as over-the-top as it clearly intends to be, it could be 2012′s Hobo With a Shotgun. Check out the teaser after the jump… READ FULL STORY »

This Week on Stage: Daniel Radcliffe, Larry Kramer vs. Barbra Streisand, the Tonys get a host, and Spidey returns!

by-the-way

It was supposed to be a quiet week post-Tony nominations. Nope! Tony producers confirmed Neil Patrick Harris would be hosting the awards on June 12. Daniel Radcliffe told an audience at Manhattan’s 92nd Street Y that he was shocked by the public hoopla surrounding his Tony snub. Meryl Streep confirmed she will play the title role in a reading of Alan Alda’s Radiance: The Passion of Marie Curie at Lincoln Center on June 1st (the cast also includes Amy Adams, Allison Janney, and Liev Schreiber). Larry Kramer and Barbra Streisand traded barbs over who really held up the film version of The Normal Heart. And Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark returned to Broadway, rebooted and retooled, for more previews (the official opening date is now June 14). In other news, War Horse and The Book of Mormon announced their national tours, which launch next year. Wonderland announced its early closing (final curtain: Sunday, May 14). And the Tony-nominated Motherf—er With The Hat extended its run by three weeks, with a new close date set for July 17.

In the meantime, our critics saw three productions: the Shaw adaptation A Minister’s Wife, the L.A. anthology about marriage equality Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, and Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage’s By the Way, Meet Vera StarkREAD FULL STORY »

'Bridesmaids,' 'Priest,' and 'Everything Must Go': What will you see this weekend?

Bridesmaids

If you plan your moviegoing by critics’ grades alone, this weekend has a clear winner: Bridesmaids. The ensemble comedy, starring SNL vets Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, got a solid A from EW’s Owen Gleiberman, who calls it a “beguilingly witty and heartrending new comedy that’s the first Judd Apatow production to dive headfirst into the world of women.” Case closed, have fun, call me next week, say hi to your mother for me.

But the weekend also has two other oddball options. READ FULL STORY »

Alex Pettyfer to star in Channing Tatum stripper movie 'Magic Mike.' Love it already.

I’ll admit as someone who saw the Christopher Atkins’ movie A Night in Heaven way too young, I’ve got an unusual appreciation for the male stripper genre. But I truly believe Magic Mike, the film inspired by Channing Tatum’s early days as an exotic dancer, moving forward is something to celebrate. First, I love that Tatum pursued turning his tale into a film whether or not his reps wanted him to. Now, I love that director Steven Soderbergh has cast Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four, Beastly) as the young stripper Tatum’s character will mentor. Have I ever seen Pettyfer act? No. But like most people who read his recent VMan cover story, I’m curious about the Brit who supposedly has the phrase “Thank you” tattooed on his lower abdomen — “In case I forget to say it,” he told VMan, winking. He’s not afraid to speak his mind — he’s no fan of Los Angeles, as he reveals in that piece — but he’s also got a softer, quiet side, as he showed when he made his U.S. talk show debut with Ellen DeGeneres. He told her she stars in his favorite animated film (Finding Nemo), then gamely but shyly took off his dress shirt to put on the I [heart] Ellen T-shirt she had made for him. Watch that clip below. The 21-year-old knows how to remove a shirt. (“Do you want to help me?” he asked Ellen. Looks like a bad boy, talks like a gentleman? Sexy!)  READ FULL STORY »

Happy 25th birthday, Rob Pattinson! Here are 25 things that endeared you to me.

robert-pattinson

Ready to feel old? Today, Twilight star Robert Pattinson is 25 years old. That’s right: Though I’m still sticking by my theory that the guy has existed since the days of Easter Island (they have the same profile, guys!), Pattinson apparently just today turned a quarter-century years old. So, to celebrate this holiday, I’m going to slap on my beanie and list 25 things that endeared the coiffed-one to me. Without further ado:

25. As you see above, he can pull off the same jacket as Ron Burgundy.

24. He writes his own music, but doesn’t shove his music career down our throats like other actors-turned-musicians.

23. In 2009, even he looked like he wasn’t sure why he was at the Academy Awards. READ FULL STORY »
