Ted Nugent continues attack on Obama: 'Anybody that wants to disarm me can drop dread'

Ted Nugent’s harsh language for President Obama and all those who would dare utter the words “gun control” continued during his interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan Wednesday. Watch clips below. Nugent compared his infamous 2007 concert rant on Obama — “I told him to suck on my machine gun” — to watching Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, or Lenny Bruce live. “I’m on a rock ‘n roll stage. I just sang a song about feisty [bleep]….. Get over it. That’s some funny s—.” But speaking in what he dubbed “official CNN Piers Morgan interview terms,” he explained his position thusly: “Anybody that wants to disarm me can drop dread. Anybody that wants to make me unarmed and helpless, people that want to literally create the proven places where more innocents are killed called gun-free zones, we’re gonna beat you. We’re gonna vote you out of office or suck on my machine gun. You can take it whichever way you like.”

Read the full transcript for their complete gun control debate. Nugent used softer language when discussing the issue of homosexuality. If one of his children to him he was gay, “I’d say, ‘Get the gun, let’s go kill a deer. Inconsequential,’” Nugent said. “I am repulsed at the concept of man-on-man sex. I think it’s against nature. I think it’s strange as hell. But if that’s what you are, I love ya.”  READ FULL STORY »

Haley Reinhart falls mid-performance: How'd she handle it?

Categories: American Idol, Ooops!

Perhaps surprisingly for a show filled with excitable teenagers who constantly dance up and down precarious stairwells wearing ridiculous clothes, there haven’t been too many falls in 10 seasons of American Idol. So we should pay special attention to Haley Reinhart’s tumble last night during a spirited performance of Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be.” Haley took the fall in stride, gamely finishing the song with a wide smile on her face.

That misstep appeared to have endeared the singer to the judges (who haven’t always been on her side this season). Steven Tyler said sagely, “It’s not how many times you fall, it’s how many times you get up.” Jennifer Lopez reminded everyone that she fell onstage during one of several failed pre-Idol comeback attempts. Randy Jackson sputtered “In it to win it! In it to win it!” like a broken robot. What do you think, Idol fans? Did Haley show a superstar’s poise after her fall… or does the mere fact that she did fall mean she’s less deserving of the Idol crown than her more surefooted opponents? (Basically is this Kristin Holt all over again?) Check out video of her performance, and vote in our poll, after the jump… READ FULL STORY »

Today, while doing our journalistic duties, we happened upon a Vanity Fair Proust Questionnaire from 2003 conducted with then-gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger.

There, among the series of personality questions like “What is your greatest fear?” and “What is your idea of perfect happiness?”, we discovered this little gem:

VANITY FAIR: Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
ARNOLD:
“Maria, I said I’m sorry” and “Yes, dear.”

Universal Parks announces new 'Despicable Me' ride, and a major face-lift for 'Spider-Man'

We all loved the yellow, pill-shaped minions populating last summer’s Despicable Me, but what would it be like to be one?

That’s the premise of Universal Studios Orlando’s new ride based on the animated hit, which the theme park announced this morning. Due in 2012, the 3-D experience, which will replace the Jimmy Neutron ride, will plop riders into the world of professed arch villain Gru and his horde of Minions in a story that takes place after the events of the film. “First you’ll be taken into Gru’s house,” says Thierry Coup, the head of Universal Creative Studio, the team developing the ride. “And then you’ll get to see his lab, and then it will get deeper and deeper into some of the areas in that world that are just fantastic.”  READ FULL STORY »

What is your most exciting new show of the 2011-12 TV season?

The new shows for the broadcast networks have been announced, and there appears to be all kinds of nostalgia awaiting us this fall. There’s nostalgia for the bygone days of aviation (ABC’s Pan Am), nostalgia for the bygone days of classy erotica (NBC’s The Playboy Club), nostalgia for the bygone days of ’70s-era jiggle TV (ABC’s Charlie’s Angels), nostalgia for the bygone days of snarky British judges on singing competition shows (Fox’s The X Factor), and nostalgia for the bygone days of Sarah Michelle Gellar appearing every week on our televisions (The CW’s The Ringer).

But there’s also plenty of (relatively) newfangled shows heading our way as well, like the Rachel Bilson fish-out-of-water comedy Hart of Dixie (The CW), the J.J. Abrams techno-thriller Person of Interest (CBS), the Steven Spielberg epic sci-fi series Terra Nova (Fox), and the mis-matched-girls-striving-in-the-big-city sitcom 2 Broke Girls (CBS).

But which has you most excited? Vote in our poll below, and then sound off in the comments!  READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' on the scene for Top 3 performance night: Haley falls, Lauren struggles, and Scotty wants 'just to be your man'

If the Idoldome were a Magic 8 Ball, and you asked it whether Scotty McCreery would be this year’s winner, the Idoldome would have responded, “It is decidedly so.” Last night’s performance show felt like a coronation at times, particularly after Scotty finished crooning Kenny Rogers’ “She Believes in Me.” After that song, one guy in the audience screamed, “Welcome to the finale, Scotty!” Other folks settled on less imaginative chants, such as “We love you, Scotty” and “You’re awesome, Scotty!” I mention this because the Idoldome is my only window into what a sizable group of people thinks about these contestants. Based solely on this sample, Scotty is the most beloved of all, followed by Haley and then Lauren. But the Idoldome has been known to cheer for things like the Black Eyed Peas, so its judgment cannot always be trusted.

Behind the scenes, everyone was on their best behavior, and that made for a less satisfying show — at least from my audience seat. Nigel Lythgoe never activated the Swaybots or sent a throng of girls onstage to hug Scotty or planted a 19-year-old boy in the audience for Lauren to serenade. (Lythgoe tweeted that he was “under the weather,” so that could explain why he wasn’t up to his normal scheming.) Randy and J.Lo didn’t criticize Haley’s song choices for a change, and Ryan Seacrest didn’t show off his balloon-catching technique. But don’t fret, PopWatchers, as there are still plenty of Idoldome tidbits worth sharing, including Haley’s fall, Lauren’s gaffes, a birthday celebration, and Elijah Wood’s furry friend. Here we go: READ FULL STORY »

'Cougar Town': Fear the chalk children

cougartown

Much like the beginning of last week’s episode of We Should Have Live Cougars On Cougar Town, Travis was still hanging out in the dark mourning the loss of Kirsten. He hadn’t even been going to college. It was a Travisty. (See what I did there?) But breakups are hard. It took Jules a year to bounce back after she and Bobby split up, and it was the worst weekend of Bobby’s life.

Travis finally admitted that college might not be right for him after he was caught lying about being on spring break. So Jules gave him an ultimatum: Go back to college or move out and get a job. Travis knew his mom’s new tough love attitude wasn’t really her, despite her claim that she “tosses asses.” But who was she kidding? She couldn’t even let her son eat stale chips. Sure enough, Jules’ tough-love act didn’t last for long. Instead, she and Travis had a kite-flying, sandcastle-building day at the beach. Joel Edgerton joins 'Gatsby': Is he Leo's equal? -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

Australian actor Joel Edgerton will play Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby, replacing Ben Affleck, who dropped out to direct Argo. A spokesperson for the 36-year-old actor confirmed the deal, and Luhrmann told Deadline that Edgerton “could credibly be (as F. Scott Fitzgerald describes him) ‘one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven,’ had five-star acting chops and in the big dramatic showdown scenes between Gatsby and Tom, [and could] hold the screen against Leonardo DiCaprio.” This exclusive photo of Edgerton shows the actor in character as he works with Luhrmann on the project.

Edgerton, who’s been excellent in some smaller films, brings an unsettling intensity to all his performances.  READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' Top 3: What should they sing to nab a spot in the finals?

Idol-Final-Three

This is it. Tonight, our Top 3 must battle it out to become the Top 2, but their biggest foe is hardly one another. No, tonight is the night that our Idols will be drenched in blood, sweat, and tears tackling the most formidable enemy ever known to American Idol: The Producers’ Pick. Click here for appropriate sound effect. Will Haley Reinhart be slapped with a song from Rio, just as Syesha Mercado was forced to sing a Happy Feet number? Which contestant will be tasked with “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” or “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing”? (Idol… must… not… embrace… change… arghhh!) Tune in tonight to see!

Tonight, however, is also the night our final three singers will be given a chance to cement their spot in the finals with a personal song choice. And, this time around, they won’t be limited to singing tunes from the likes of 60-year-old musicians who play badminton with Nigel Lythgoe. No, the Top 3 can choose any song they want (that Idol is willing to pay for). So what song should each sing? What tune will guarantee them a space in the finals? (Their choices may have already been leaked, but this is a non-spoiler zone, folks!) My picks are below: READ FULL STORY »
