Jennifer Lawrence talks 'Hunger Games,' 'X-Men,' and horses with Letterman

Jennifer Lawrence showed off her newly dyed hair last night when she stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman, officially there to stump for X-Men: First Class. The superhero prequel doesn’t come out for a few weeks yet, but Lawrence is probably going to be pretty busy, as filming for The Hunger Games starts up this week. The actress awkwardly charmed the late night host with a story about riding wild horses as a child and messing up her coccyx (hee hee, coccyx!) before getting into the high-profile projects she’s working on. Most amusingly, she distinguished The Hunger Games from Twilight as “A violent futuristic movie where kids are randomly selected from their home districts to fight to the death. But we don’t drink blood, that’s just sick.” Check out a clip from Lawrence’s trip to the couch below. READ FULL STORY »

Play Movie Trailer Bingo!

When future generations of the human race turn their cruel, judgmental eyes back to our miserable era here at the dawn of the third millennium, they will discover a veritable Renaissance in one of the most popular global art forms. I am speaking, of course, of the movie trailer, in which the whole expanse of a feature film is distilled into a two-and-a-half minute (or less) kinetic burst of cinematic energy. Trailers are the perfect medium for our relentlessly meta moment: Witness the rise of the Fake Trailer as a cultural force, sometimes deconstructive, sometimes aspirational. (Heck, a few years back, there was an entire big-budget movie made as an ode to the shrill hucksterism and sweet innocence of movie trailers.) READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' on the scene for Top 3 results show: Who won the finale coin toss, and who does Scotty want to shave his head?

Yesterday’s result show sent former jazz student Haley Reinhart packing while setting up Idol‘s youngest finale ever. To give you an idea of how young we’re talking, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery’s combined age of 33 is still three years younger than the eternally youthful Ryan Seacrest. In my opinion, Haley deserved a crack at the title more than Lauren, but at least Haley’s elimination paved the way for an exuberant farewell rendition of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets.” Overall, the hour-long program flew by in a hurry, but there are quite a few behind-the-scene observations I’d like to highlight. In chronological order, here’s what went down in the Idoldome: READ FULL STORY »

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis spend most of  The Hangover Part II looking hot, sweaty, and generally bedraggled, but (hopefully) they’ll look far more put together for the movie’s red carpet premiere. Either way, you can watch it live below, starting at 6:30pm PT / 9:30pm ET, with replays afterward.

Also watch for the film’s co-writer-director Todd Phillips, costars Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong, and expected guests Will Ferrell, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, and Jay-Z.  READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Top 3's eliminated singer is...

Update: Annie’s recap is live.

SOMEONE WILL NO LONGER BE IN IT TO WIN IT TONIGHT AT 9 P.M. EASTERN!

American Idol‘s Wednesday final four performance show brought an Enchantment Under the Sea prom gown for Lauren Alaina, Randy’s first ‘in it to win it’ pronouncement for Scotty McCreery, and a hardworking wind machine for Goldilocks Stevie Nicks a.k.a. Haley Reinhart. Earlier today, over 60 percent of you predicted it would be Lauren heading home tonight. 25 or so percent said Haley (pictured).

Chat about the results show here and I’ll update the post as soon as we know who’s been eliminated. READ FULL STORY »

'One Tree Hill' renewed for ninth season? More like 'Old Tree Hill.' Yeah, I said it.

My word-for-word reaction when I heard One Tree Hill was renewed for a ninth season — presumably to be its last – was “Wait, no way that show is still on.” But it is.

I, like many of my high school ilk (or was that middle school? I’m too young to feel this old), used to worship the ground that Chad Michael Murray walked on. I used to live for the nights new episodes would air. (Tuesdays?) But of course this was back when it was on the nearly fully decomposed WB — or “the Dubs B,” as we in the suburban hood used to call it.

Over the years I lost touch with the One Tree Hill gang. Chad Michael Murray left, somebody apparently became a famous singer (it wasn’t Gavin DeGraw), and a whole lot of cross-pollination happened. OTH‘s rating are low but its fan base is high, and intense. Did I say intense? I meant crazy intense.  READ FULL STORY »

Who's your favorite TV couple now? (Don't hurt us, Leslie and Ben!)

We’re just hours away from tonight’s two-part, one-hour season finale of Parks and Recreation, and if you want a tease of what’s in store, cocreator Mike Schur gave EW’s Dan Snierson 10 of them. Naturally, the first hint is about Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Adam Scott) trying to hide their new relationship from everyone so they don’t get in trouble with boss Chris (Rob Lowe). I cannot tell you how invested I am in these two staying together. Somewhere along the line — maybe in front of the wildflower mural on the second floor? — they became my favorite TV couple.
