Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette' season premiere

Chris-Harrison

Welcome to a new season of The Bachelorette. It feels like we’ve been gone for a while, and it’s really good to be back. I hope you feel like your Monday night appointment is back. Because of the timing of production, by the time the guys arrived at the house they knew Ashley was our girl. A little irony to start off the season: Ashley moved into the same house Brad stayed in while he was the Bachelor. The previous tenant should start leaving notes for the next person.

That first night I always enjoy sitting down and talking with the Bachelor or Bachelorette. I like to see the state of mind they’re in and get a feel for how they’re doing. It’s also very easy and enjoyable when you get along with the person. Talking to Ashley is very easy, and I felt she had a good attitude heading into this journey. The only thing that really threw me off was her story about being warned about Bentley. As I said on the show, this has never happened before. We’ve never had drama or been tipped off about somebody before the limos even pull up the drive. For me this was a huge red flag, and obviously as you saw on the previews for upcoming episodes it should have been a bigger red flag for Ashley. READ FULL STORY »

'The Bachelorette' season premiere: I'm not as think as you drunk I am

You know, I never thought that anyone would be able to make a worst first impression on the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise than that chick who took off her thong and handed it to Bachelor Matt. Oh, recapper of little faith! Did I not realize that Team Bachelorette would search far and wide to find someone capable of even bigger acts of jackassery? (SPOILER ALERT: Read no further if you’ve not seen tonight’s episode.) Behold tonight’s season premiere, in which our second choice dear Bachelorette Ashley met 25 “men,” some of whom achieved adequate idiot status (I’m talking to you, guy with soul patch), but the one who truly brought his d-bag A-game was Tim — a.k.a. the guy who got so drunk not even the Bachelorette and the incriminating glare of TV-camera lights could wake him. (See clip, below.) It was an auspicious beginning to a season that’s bound to be jam-packed with crippling self-esteem issues (Ashley), “wrong reasons” galore (Bentley), and a guy wearing a mask while sitting on the toilet (Jeff). Stay tuned for my full recap later tonight (UPDATE: Click over for Kristen’s full Bachelorette season premiere recap), but in the meantime, let me hear your thoughts on tonight’s premiere. Is passing out cold worse than thong-stripping? Was it me, or did one of the front-runner bachelors seem slightly sexually ambiguous? And will Ashley ever truly believe that she deserves “love”? 'Glee': Do we want more original songs next season?

GLEE-RECAP

Tuesday night is the finale of Glee, friends, and once again we will be treated to a helping of original songs. But after taking a listen to the previews, I’m on the fence now more than ever about the idea to feature original songs on Glee.

“Pretending” (a Finchel duet) is sweet enough. You rarely can go wrong pairing those two together for a song — although I could do without the Lamaze breathing in the chorus. “Light Up the World,” meanwhile, takes more than a few ingredients from the Katy Perry recipe for fluffy pop hits. (That’s a good or bad thing depending on what you think of Katy Perry.) Earlier this season, the tunes in “Original Song” struck a similar chord with me. “Get It Right” was sweet, “Loser Like Me” was musical canned food.  READ FULL STORY »

'Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!' Season Cinco DVD giveaway

tim_eric_box_art

Why is this recently-released collection of episodes from Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim’s surreal Adult Swim sketch series called “Season Cinco” rather than “Season 5″? We have no idea. But we do know that the DVD set is chock full of special features like blooper reels, deleted scenes, and even karaoke — as well as shows that feature guest appearances from funny dudes like Rainn Wilson and Zach Galifianakis.

If all that sounds like damn fine viewing to you, you’re in luck — EW is giving away 10 copies of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job: Season Cinco on DVD. The discs are courtesy of Warner Home Video and Adult Swim, and they’re available while supplies last. Here’s how to enter the giveaway: READ FULL STORY »

'The Celebrity Apprentice' finale makes for all-time series-low ratings: What made you not tune in?

Nothing to smile about here, Trump. The ratings for the season finale of The Celebrity Apprentice were anything but YOUGE.

Pulling in a rather paltry 2.9/7 share in the coveted 18-49 demo, the episode proved to be the lowest spring finale ever for The Apprentice, Celebrity or otherwise. While the EW.com comments section have all but been ablaze today with chatter from those of you who actually did tune in for last night’s finale (“Marlee Matlin was robbed!” “Who is John Rich again?” “Where are my pants?!”), we’re curious as to why so many folks didn’t.  READ FULL STORY »

Zach Galifianakis rips January Jones: 'Everybody's going to forget about you in a few years'

On “Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis,” guests can expect to be treated rudely by the insecure host. But there doesn’t seem to be anything inspired or playful about Galifianakis’ recent remarks about Mad Men beauty January Jones. After a writer from ShortList.com mentioned that Jones had named the Hangover star as the “most naturally funny person she’d ever met,” Galifianakis basically scoffed. “If I remember correctly, she and I were very rude to each other,” he said. “It was crazy. I was at a party — I’d never met her — and she was like, ‘Come sit down.’ So I sit at her table and talk for 10 minutes, and she goes, ‘I think it’s time for you to leave now.’ So I say, ‘January, you are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you in a few years, so f—ing be nice,’ and I got up and left. And she thinks that’s funny?” READ FULL STORY »

'The Simpsons' or 'Family Guy': Which is greater? Which is more influential?

simpsons_family_guy

On Wednesday, your friends and bitter enemies here at EW.com will unveil our list of the 25 greatest animated series of all time. The list includes classics from the early days of TV animation, sincere kids’ cartoons which taught you important life lessons, surreal kids’ cartoons that your parents didn’t understand, animated satires, animated musical space westerns, animated fantasies, and whatever Aqua Teen Hunger Force is. But here’s the twist: Instead of ranking these shows, we’re going to ask you readers to cast your vote to decide which animated series is the greatest of them all. You’ll be wrestling with some of the great conflicts in animated TV history. Beavis & Butthead or Ren & Stimpy? Aqua Teen Hunger Force or The Venture Brothers? The Flintstones or The Jetsons? (Just kidding on that last one. The Jetsons will never appear on a list of greatest anything, except for Elroy, whose cold dead eyes and slurry hippie voice certainly earn him a place on the list of Greatest Headache You’ve Ever Been Given by a Character on Television.)

Still, no animated feud has ever matched the neverending battle between two apparently-immortal Fox comedies about American families who spend their days deconstructing a broad swath of the history of pop culture. It’s time to revisit the age-old contest, people: Is The Simpsons still better than Family Guy?  READ FULL STORY »
