We know what you’re thinking: “I’m a poetic-minded black belt with a thing for smoking monkeys. How can I possibly choose between this week’s big releases?” Reader, we sympathize. After all, The Hangover Part II is a comedic filth-fest, Kung Fu Panda 2 is a high-kicking kid pic, and The Tree of Life is a dreamy tone poem about family and Texas and… uh, dinosaurs. How can a person be expected to pick between three nearly identical movies like that?
To answer that, you just just need to look deep within yourself and ask this question: What kind of sick person has a thing for smoking monkeys? What are your feelings about Asia? For devoted fans of the Far East, Kung Fu Panda 2 is probably the way to go, since the family-friendly sequel follows Po (Jack Black) on a new quest set among the mystical mountains of ancient China. If you’re more intrigued by the continent’s seamy underbelly, then try out The Hangover Part II, which sends the wolfpack (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis) into the streets of Bangkok in search of a missing buddy. And if you’re a homebody, try out Terrence Malick’s Texas-set The Tree of Life (starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn), but be ready for some time-traveling cosmic imagery, too.
Still stressing about the decision? Relax: All three movies got strong B+s from EW’s critics this week, so you can’t go too far wrong.
Made up your mind? Then vote in our poll below, and let us know what movie you’ll be seeing this weekend!

Tree of Life isn’t out here yet, I saw Hangover Part II yestarday, I’ll see The Beaver tonight, and Kung Fu Panda 2 tomorrow.
Thanks for keeping us posted. I know I for one was on the edge of my seat wondering what your movie selections for the weekend would be. Please be sure to report back on which items you purchased at the concession stand.
Uhh, this article is specifically asking what movies people will be seeing this weekend, and you’re gonna bash people for answering the question? Moron.
I would see Tree of Life if it was playing near me, but it’s not. I’m gonna catch Bridesmaids this weekend. It looks better than The Hangover part 2.
It is. Enjoy.
EW, you do realize “The Tree of Life” is only out on 4 screens in 2 cities, right? Stupid NY and sleazy LA. All of us normal citizens have to wait weeks to see it. I’ll be catching up with “Midnight in Paris” this weekend.
And I bet they’re going to be writing all kinds of stories about why the American viewing public didn’t go see the movie, why it did so poorly at the box office, without stopping to realize that fact. That happens EVERY single time a movie goes into limited release. On the topic, am I the only person who doesn’t want to see a single one of these?
tvgirl is an appropriate name for you, then.
Took my sons to see Kung Fu Panda yesterday and going with hubby to see Hangover 2 tonight. No desire to see Tree of Life.
WHERE THE HELL IS TREE OF LIFE PLAYING?!? I thought it was opening this weekend! It’s not even playing in Dallas. I hate everything and everyone.
None of the above. Finally going to see “Hesher.” JGL rocks.
Well I’m not seeing Tree of Life since it’s playing in approximately 4 theaters… and I won’t be seeing The Hangover Part II. I was on the fence about it, but when the negative reviews came in, I decided against. I’ll just have to wait until June 17 when Tree of Life opens locally for me.
Kung Fu Panda getting the same grade as The Tree of Life is some sort of sick joke.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing Tree of Life since I’m a fan of Malick. But who knows when it will ever come to my neck of the woods. Grrr. Argh.
