I think Ron’s journey is the most realistic of the three main characters, and I think Ms. Rowling and the filmmakers have done an excellent job giving Ron the maturity he grows into while leaving him as a funny, slightly goofy character. Rupert Grint should get most of the credit for how his acting skills have improved. I cannot watch the fight scene between Ron and Harry in DH1 without thinking back to the first film and realizing just how far he, and Daniel and Emma, have come acting-wise and maturity-wise.
Ron has always been my favorite character in the entire Harry Potter universe. He’s the most 3D. Harry is too heroic sometimes, and Hermione too brainy, altho there is no doubt that they also have flaws which are shown in both the books and the movies. But Ron is the most relatable because JKR always chooses him to show insecurity, jealousy and such other emotions rather than Harry or Hermione whom she doesn’t want to be tainted with too much imperfections. But that has also made H&H a little bit 2D compared to Ron’s character and his journey throughout the series.
I agree with O’Brien and everyone who said that Rupert Grint has done an awesome job of whatever he was given. To me, he’s the best of all the young actors of the entire movie series. I also believe that the movies have been unfair to him and his character, and I’m sad that those who wouldn’t read the books will never have the chance to get to know the “real” Ron.
Ron has always been my favorite character in both the books and the movies (thanks to the excellent work of Rupert Grint). It has always bothered me a little bit that in the books sometimes Ron has the epiphany line or the smart comment but in the movie it ends up being Hermione that has that line. The movies almost completely take away Ron’s contribution to whatever their current dilemma is. However I don’t think Ron is cowardly or disloyal. Certainly he may not be as brave, but I think he loves Harry and Hermione just as much as they love him and his issue is really his own self-esteem. The times he gets most upset with Harry are really just due to jealousy and his own feelings of inadequacy. Trying to measure up to 5 remarkable brothers while simultaneously having a very famous and (mostly) well-liked best friend would be probably be way too difficult for most people, but Ron handles it like a champ, all things considered. Because he’s awesome.
DOOFUS!?!?! See, you know what…..
Whatever…
Bless you JKR for introducing us to the wonderful character that is Ronald Bilius Weasley. Bless you Rupert Grint for taking that wonderful character and bringing him forth to the big screen. You worked with what you were given and I applaud you!!!
Looking forward to Comrade!!!
