More Emmys

Jane Lynch may host Emmys, but would you prefer that Sue Sylvester take over?

Ricky Gervais got a lot of flack for his most recent Golden Globe hosting gig, in which he flung some stinging, if not hilarious, one-liners at some Hollywood A-listers. Now, imagine instead you’ve got McKinley High School’s Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester at the helm of a prestigious awards ceremony with the biggest stars in television at her mercy. That Gervais uproar would become mere child’s play, would it not?

While Sue Sylvester isn’t exactly hosting any awards shows any time soon, the multi-talented funny lady who plays her on Glee very well may be. As we reported earlier, Lynch is nearing a deal to host the 63rd Annual Emmy Awards later this year. And Lynch knows her way around the Emmys: The multi-talented star picked up a trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series last year for her work as the over-the-top villain on Glee.

But, how much will — and should — Lynch go into the Glee well? Last year, the 50-year-old actress made an in-character cameo in Jimmy Fallon’s opening song-and-dance number at the Emmys, and she could just as easily track suit up again for the occasion. There could be a visit to “Sue’s Corner” during the opening monologue (there’s no question she have some interesting thoughts to share on, say, Charlie Sheen) or some evil scheming to ensure no musical numbers featuring Matthew Morrison take place during the broadcast. (Some of us would get behind that.) Heck, she could even go all Gallagher on everyone and Slushie the poor saps in the front row.

Then again, Lynch has enough comedic sensibilities and timing (see: Best in Show, Role Models) to get by on her own just fine. And call me crazy, but as much as I get a kick out of Coach Sylvester when she’s in full-on tirade mode, what I’d really love to see is a visit from Constance Carmell. Would it be too much to ask for a skit in which she, and the rest of the Party Down gang, cater the Emmys? Those pink bow ties would be a hit on the red carpet.

Do you think Jane Lynch should host the Emmys in character? If so, as who? Let us know in the comments section below, PopWatchers!

I don’t understand the correlation between Jane Lynch and Sylvester Stalone

    • Frank

She was the love interest in Rocky III

    • Tom

Jane lynch used to date sylvester stalone’s sister, sue

    • Why not?

Sue Sylvester is not that funny, Jane lynch’s character on glee though is hysterical!

I loved her line in one of the episodes back, she said “not on my watch bucko”

    • HD

Jane Lynch better enjoy hosting the Emmys because I don’t think she’ll ever win another. The character is just absurd now, despite the Funeral repreive and the academy (and rightly so) need to honor one of the powerhouses of Modern Family this year. Either Julie or Sophia, both equally deserving!

Uh Not on my watch bucko

      • HD

        That’s called denial.

      • Lexus

I can’t believe I’ve been going for years wthiuot knowing that.

  • Skip

I have loved Jane Lynch since I saw her in the terminator

  • Evan

She should host as herself, the character has become a cartoon this season. What I WOULD like to see is Jim Parsons host in character as Sheldon Cooper, but that would only happen on CBS.

    • Obama

      Not on my watch bucko

  • Foyet

I think she should steer well clear of doing it in character! Jane Lynch is funny and charming as herself, she could be a brilliant host, but if it’s too GLEE/Sue Sylvester heavy it’ll be awful, eeek!!

    • Obama

Yeah not on my watch bucko

  • Loren

AWWW i seriously heart me some Jane Lynch, she’s hilarious and seems like such a lovely lady. But I really don’t want her to host the EMMY’s just incase she bombs :-( awfull for a fan to say but i’d rather watch her sitting in the audience looking beautiful, and hopefully see her jog up onstage to collect her second EMMY!

    • Obama

And I said not on my watch bucko

  • Tank Girl

EW may not understand this concept, but there are plenty of people in the world who do not watch Glee, so haven’t a clue who Sue Sylvester is. Why would they want to watch “her” host a major awards show?

    • Obama

Huh, yeah, not on my watch bucko

    • M

True…. The first season was outstanding, now its pathetic.

  • bert

Boy ,I sure hope not. I love the Emmys it will ruin them.

    • Obama

Ok, but not on my watch bucko

  • Elaine

I would rather someone else host the awards.

    • Obama

I would rather it be not on my watch bucko

      • M

What so this is your answer to everything???

      • Sbyi

Certain retarded people find comfort in repetition.

  • TorontoTom

Hosting the Emmys would give her a great opportunity to show that she is Jane Lynch, NOT Sue Sylvester. Showcase what else she can do, not what we’ve already seen. It would be a real mistake for her to trot out in a track suit and do the Sue shtick.

    • Obama

Bucko, it won’t be on my watch

  • Katie

Nope. I’d prefer Constance Carmell above all else. Constance>Sue.

  • kaydevo

No to Sue. Okay, I guess, to Jane hosting.

  • Betty

    Love Jane, tired of Sue.

  • Squishmar

Jane can do it just fine on her own. She’s a great improv artist as she’s shown in the Christopher Guest films, so anything unexpected that comes up she will handle beautifully.

  • Jeanne

I am so bloody sick of Glee. If she hosts the Emmys in character, I will not be watching.

Note to EW: Not everyone loves Glee as much as you do. Stop shoving it down our throats.

  • DAle Marino

If she Hosts I won’t be watching. This is not a venue for people. Get Billy Christal or Ellen.
