I never cared about Red John. It’s always been an annoying side story to me so I hope it’s over. I don’t like shows that have these elaborate side stories about characters (Beckett on Castle), because, at least in these two shows, the characters relationships with each other are strong. I’m not saying I don’t like background info, It just feels like it takes away from the rest of the show. Also, how awesome is Bradley Whitford?
Sadistic serial killing (esp of children) is thankfully an aberration. The thought that such a person could operate a network of seemingly sane people in positions of responsibility (complete with security background checks) is a most ridiculous and unbelievable story line. Please let this be the end of RJ and get on with something new. Over time, people are changed by their experiences. When that does not happen with tv characters, viewers move on.
I’m thinking despite the barrage of bullets, Bradley Whitford’s character is not dead (kevlar vest or no vital organs involved, perhaps?) I don’t see someone of his stature being introduced for a single scene.
As loyal as Mentalist fans are some of us were getting tired of the Red John storyline. I am hoping that was Red John. I think the spin with Jane killing him could be self defense. He did have a gun and was a mass murderer. Grace Van Pelt should NEVER have a boyfriend. Twice now guys she liked turned out to be the “bad” guy.
She needs to be with Rigsby.
No, Rigsby deserves better. Good grief, she is stupid and vapid.
Last night’s offering was the prototype of “Final Episode”-ness. Even if I hadn’t already read that it had been cancelled, it would have been obvious by the “wrap-up-every-loose-end” plot.
cancelled????
It was not cancelled. Just another troll.
even this topic says “finale” — not season finale but SERIES finale.
what am i missing? how does everyone not know this?
How did Red John know to go to the mall? I think there is another mole.
There could be a second mole. Or Van Pelt’s fiance called Red John as they were leaving the station to go to Hightower’s hiding place and tipped him off there. He did call Red John at least once.
How did RJ know to go to the mall….Bertram did make a phone call before he left to o to the mall with Patrick. Perhaps there is another mole or maybe even more than two; a network within?
LaRoche’s killing of Gupta in the police car–”I had to, he was going for a gun.” No way. All through the show the police characters have been shown to have steely surfaces hiding painful secrets (Lisbon drinking, Rigsby’s dad). I do love complicated plots and characters.
That is the one point last night that has me thinking who slipped him a key to the handcuffs and why? I believe Red John is dead and am ready for them to move on but something is shady about LaRouche and I think that is the new arc for next season.
What is in the tupperware!?!
“What is in the tuperware”… lol Reminds me of Brad Pitt’s “what’s in the box” a the end of Se7en
That didn’t add up for me either . Did they forget to frisk Gupta or put the cuffs on him ? More sloppy police work and another plot hole . Never trusted that control freak weirdo LaRouche anyway , let alone what sick secret he’s hiding in his safe !
I also wondered how Jane “guessed” at the tupperware…..something fishy there. How in world would he have known that there was tupperware in the safe?
I also wondered how Gupta was killed – not okay to shoot the guy in the car. There are two other witnesses besides LaRoche for that one. Lots of pieces to answer next season!
BJ – please watch the show again. Or just watch the last episode again. Clearly you are either blind or deaf (or maybe both) …
That was not Red John that died last night. The plan was for RJ to show up at the meeting with Bertram bacause Bertram, being the mole, would inform RJ as to the time and local of the meet. However, it seems Bertram was not the mole. If, in fact, Bertram was not the mole, how did RJ show up at the meeting? Was there more than one mole? Possible. If this was explained last night I missed it … obviously.
The larger issue for me is this … RJ has had a slew of minions willing to do anything without question for RJ. They seem willing to die without question at the drop of a hat. I don’t see the guy that died last night being that guy. He may have indeed killed Jane’s family for RJ, but I don’t see him controlling a crew of folks willing to die for him and his cause.
RJ will reappear. Bet on it.
Why would he be behind bars. He shot a man with a gun pointed at him!
I’m still puzzled. How did Red John know about the meeting at the mall? If he heard it from Van Pelt’s boyfriend, how did he know? That seems to be a loose end to me.
Grace blabbed to her fiance at the station when she asked him to go on the “long ride” with her. The fiance had plenty of time to tip off Red John.
OK, but then how did Jane know about that? Why did he suspect Red John was at the mall?
Yes, RJ needs to be put to rest and the writers show why they are writers and continue with strong plot lines. When a show relies on a never-able-to-end situation, it becomes LOST. This show is not unidimensional and does not need contrived impossible to resolve plot lines. Thyere’s pleantyu of meat and substance left for the writers and viewers to gnaw on without a contrived continuance of RJ. RIP, RJ.
and who believes there are no skeletons in LaRoche’s closet that should not be explored. Oh there’s plenty more to marinate. The writers gotta be drooling with excitement to start on new dish
I certainly hope they don’t try to say the real Red John is still out there. The show’s title doesn’t mention him, it’s called “The Mentalist”. A whole season of peripheral storyline wrap-ups, like LaRoche’s tupperware mystery, would be fine, then mobve on to other new long-term things. And above all, Rigsby and Van Pelt HAVE to get back together…
I would prefer an end to that story line too. They tried it and it failed. Just end that too.
Who’s to say red John is dead? I didn’t see any bullets hit him in the heart, or blow the back of his head off. He took a few slugs from a small caliber pistol to the abdomen. Plenty of people live through that. I think in the fall you will see our boy Red John on life support, and then somehow he escapes, leading to more shenanigans and hijinks!
Shenanigans and hijinks ? LOL! I can’t stop laughing after reading that . Good one !
Bradley Whitford was amazing but was not the real red john. He was a red john minion used to make it look that red john was dead. I’m still in the belief that Malcolm McDowell’s character is red john and is hypnotizing/brainwashing his minions.
The religious cult leader as RJ is too easy . It would have to be someone you’d never suspect . Otherwise what’s the point ?
