Donald Trump won't run for president. But why?

Donald Trump announced yesterday that he would not seek the presidency, and today, the new question is, Why? Why did the real-estate titan and reality-TV star take his name out of the running for the Republican nomination? According to Anthony Baxter, he’s responsible for spoiling Trump’s potential campaign. The filmmaker, whose You’ve Been Trumped yet-unsold documentary chronicles a Scottish seaside resort’s fight against Trump’s planned golf course, told the Hollywood Reporter, “I do think Mr. Trump realized he would be under severe scrutiny if he actually ran for president, and our film had become part of that dialogue.”

I hope to someday see Baxter’s film, which premiered in Toronto earlier this month, but I’m not sure it’s become “part of that dialogue.” So the question remains: Why did Trump walk away? It’s not like him to flinch from a confrontation, especially at the very moment when his rival, President Obama, seemed to be provoking him. His explanation at NBC’s upfronts, that Celebrity Apprentice is his priority because “we’ve raised tens of millions,” rings rather hollow. A billionaire like Donald Trump spends that kind of money on haircare. We can speculate for hours, but I think the NBC executive had it correct when he told EW last month that Trump’s candidacy was “a stunt.”

What’s your best guess?

My guess is he really isn’t worth as much as he claims to be so he doesn’t want people seeing that …

I’m guessing guessing it’s a combination of the inevitable skeletons he’s got in his closet, his reluctance to release his tax information and his sole platform issue (Obama was not born in the US) being blown out of the water.

I’m not sure he ever had real intentions of running. I don’t trust that guy as far as I can throw him. If he did intend to run, I guarantee you there are definitely skeletons he knew would be dug up. As he often does, his mouth got ahead of his brain with all that tough talk and bravado. But when he realized he’d be held to such close scrutiny and the result could potentially be a total upending of his life and reputation (what of it he has), he backed out. Too bad. I’d have loved to have seen him humiliated for the fraud he is.

His financials are really, really shady. He has lawsuits against him, his businesses are failing, etc. He is not the great businessman he claims to be, has no real leadership qualities and one big reason though is he has absolutely no sense of humor. Anyone who is that full of himself cannot be President of the United States.

Please cite the law were presidential candidates must disclose personal financial information- Jeff

I think the statement was based on this quote from Trump:
“Maybe I’m going to do the tax returns when Obama does his birth certificate . I’d love to give my tax returns. I may tie my tax returns into Obama’s birth certificate,” he told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos.

Time has passed since the release of the certificate… and Trump didn’t pull through. Regardless, I think it was just to get attention.

Why is he not running?? Because it was a publicity stunt to get his show renewed!!

    • Aunt Sassy

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner! I don’t know if it was to get his show renewed, but it was DEF a publicity stunt. And once again the U.S. media jumped right on it.

Donald Trump was born to one of the wealthiest familys in the history of New York He is a spoiled brat who neverhad a rough day in his life He is alway pulling these shannanagans. Oh and he also has a filthy mouth.

Total BS on Trump’s part. Biggest BS’er around.

  • amadeline

Well perhaps someone told him the rest of the world doesn’t take him as seriously as you Americans seem to. Here in Canada we consider him a big joke, all be it a very rich one! He would do nothing for America’s image but make it a laughing stock. I’m sure everything he did was to boost his TV ratings.

    • JMB in FL

Oh, he’s a big joke here, too. Trust me.

      • Zeba

I agree, he’s a joke here too. This pseudo campaign was a farce to boost ratings.

    • ikagirl

I don’t know where anyone would get the idea that Americans, as a whole, take Trump seriously. He’s a carnival barker at best.

      • ikagirl

No offense to carnival barkers…maybe I should have said side show attraction.

  • Esox

    He was afraid he’d win?

  • orville

I have a feeling that he didn’t like the idea of NBC replacing him on his own show. He’s very possessive of “the brand.”

  • Will

just from watching Celebrity Apprentice I can see that this man is not fit for presidency. He talks over people, he plays favorites, and with all the money he’s had his whole life I don’t see things going well for middle and lower class citizens. Good riddance

  • kate

    Ugh, what a tool.

  • Quester761

There was never any doubt in my mind that he would never run

  • aera

Okay, maybe this site just has a good stock of folks here that think Trump is a joke… but usually I see intense disagreement about anything involving American politics. So, as a non-American I must ask: Why is Trump a joke, but Palin isn’t? :S

    • ikagirl

The article is about Trump, not Palin, so no reason to comment. Besides, this isn’t the best place to see what people think about politics. Not that there is one, on the internet :p
