Forget that Nikki Heat movie. Somewhere Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) is smiling because Marvel has announced that come Sept. 28, it will publish a 112-page hardcover graphic novel based on his Derrick Storm mystery novels. “I am honored and humbled to see Derrick Storm join the ranks of some of the greatest heroes of all-time,” Castle says in the press release. “Being a part of the Marvel family is a childhood fantasy come true for me.” He’ll reveal the cover (pictured) on tonight’s season finale (ABC, 10 p.m. ET). Castle: Richard Castle’s Deadly Storm is cowritten by Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain America and The Secret Avengers), with interior art by Lan Medina (Fables) and cover art by Carlo Pagulayan (Planet Hulk). Marvel sees the partnership as an opportunity to create new fans of comic books. So if your mother joined Twitter just to follow Fillion, this is definitely your best shot at getting a graphic novel in front of her.
ABC has done a brilliant job of marketing Castle off-screen. With Hyperion’s help, it turned Richard Castle into a real New York Times best-selling author. The graphic novel is a perfect fit because you know Fillion, who’s done book signings before, will be more than happy to pimp it. Fillion’s geek cred — he voices Hal Jordan in the June 7 DVD release Green Lantern: Emerald Knights – helps this come across as fun, not forced. That said, are there any other Richard Castle tie-ins or merchandise you’d like to see? The WRITER beach tote is a nice touch, since people do need something to carry their beach reads in, and, were I male, I’d be torn between the WRITER and I really am ruggedly handsome aprons.

GRRRREAT show! The start upped my BP, the end more then created water works which I’m still very congested! Did I miss something thru my tears? Just WHO was the Master Mind of the Bad Guys? Sorry the Capt is gone-nice guy. Interesting to see the replacement! Amazing, one of my favorites NOT cancaled–on ABC! OOOPS, only 2 there. Body of Proof may just hang in there. Yea for Modern Family & Grey’s Anatomy. That’s it….I think!!!
I’ve never heard too much about Castle; too be honest it always seemed like a “Bones” rip-off (Whedon alum, will-they-or-won’t-they humor/sexual tension, a procedural packed with lots of humor a la “House”) but you guys seem really passionate about it. I guess it could be a lot like other TV shows, but still be pretty good too; I think I’ll give it a shot.
