Yankees - Red Sox rivalry turns violent, as Alec Baldwin slugs John Krasinski

The Yankees and the Red Sox engaged in another weekend series, and John Krasinski and Alec Baldwin took part in another New Era commercial celebrating the heated rivalry between two of baseball’s most iconic franchises. This time, things turned violent and Krasinski took one on the chin from Baldwin’s plumber-like fists. But the real hurt was Baldwin insinuating that Krasinski isn’t handsome. Take a look.

For the record, the Sox swept the Yankees over the weekend, though New York is still ahead in the standings. More importantly, though, what are the chances that Baldwin ever wears a baseball cap — for the uninitiated, New Era makes hats — in one of these commercials? Is his hair simply too fabulous to be stifled?

And while these two continue to fight, the Rays have blown by both the Yanks and the Sox and into first place. (I know it’s early, but still…)

Isn’t this kinda weird given that, you know, that one guy was almost beaten to death outside a Dodgers game?

  • Dan

Stupid commercial. You see it once and go, meh next? After that you do not care to see it again. And yes VERY poor idea to do this after that beating in LA.

He’ll never wear a hat because is jealous of his hair.

You know, the secret to a great head of hair is Dove…’s blood.

Well geez I guess it’s not much of a secret anymore if you have to go and tell people.

I don’t think that the reason Baldwin doesn’t wear a baseball cap is because he doesn’t want to cover his hair. More likely, there isn’t a cap big enough to fit around his huge, ham-sized head.

Especially after the LA incident, let’s put these commercials to be. Enough.

Poor taste with the LA/Giants thing in recent light

I don’t get how it’s poor taste just because some crazy people beat up a guy after a game in what was a completely different and horrible situation. These guys basically play friends who just argue over baseball. Baldwin punched him once and gave him compensation. It was in no way a beating, and not at all along the lines of what happened in LA. It’s just a joke, and I don’t know that it’s tremendously funny (though I enjoy the incredible charm these two both have), but I don’t think it makes light of the beating situation because I don’t think it’s connected enough. Now, if Baldwin didn’t know Kraskinski, and brought along a gang to beat him up, and they knocked him into a coma with life-threatening injuries, and they ran away and were not brought to justice, and the commercial somehow tried to made a joke of it…that would be different.

I think it’s just generally the idea of hitting someone (particularly from a rival team) over sports.

Talking smack (as Baldwin and Krasinski did in the previous commercial) is one thing. (And, I thought, a MUCH better commercial.)

On the other hand, it probably would’ve been better to just avoid anything evokes what happened in L.A. (even if it’s nowhere near as on-the-nose as you described).

    Isnt Alec from Boston?

    • Jeanne

Alec was born and raised in Long Island. His character on 30 Rock is from Boston, so I’m guessing that’s what you’re thinking of.

And keep in mind people, not everyone has heard about the incident in LA (the comments here are the first I’ve heard of it) and the commercial was filmed long before it happened.

I’m a huge Dodgers fan, live in L.A. and the horrible incident with Brian Stowe didn’t even cross my mind until I read the comments.

He was actually transferred to a SF hospital today.

    Love JKras and Baldwin.
