As we learned yesterday, the Emmys has its producer, Mark Burnett. It has its network, Fox. But it still is missing one major piece of the awards ceremony puzzle: The host. Last year, Jimmy Fallon proved to be a surprisingly adept emcee, delivering one of the best opening numbers in recent awards show history with his “Born to Run” sketch (or perhaps Anne Hathaway and James Franco’s turns as Oscar hosts have just clouded my judgment). And in 2009, Neil Patrick Harris sweetened the bad taste left in our mouths by 2008 hosts Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst, and Ryan Seacrest. So who should it be this year? Who should host the 2011 Emmys?
Considering their respectable turns, I wouldn’t mind if either Harris or Fallon made triumphant returns to the Emmys stage. But, then again, part of me can’t help but yearn for fresh blood. Following a successful White House Correspondents’ Dinner, could Seth Meyers possibly take the hosting reigns? Or Stephen Colbert, whose Colbert Report has picked up two Emmy wins for writing? Or should we shoot for some controversy, and root for Ricky Gervais to return to an awards stage, less than one year before being criticized for his so-called harsh barbs at the Golden Globes? Or should we suggest something completely different, and push for Tina Fey — either solo or alongside Alec Baldwin or, say, Jon Hamm — to host? Or perhaps The Apprentice producer Burnett would like to rope in Donald Trump for the gig? Gah! Sorry — I just stuck a fork in my eye for even suggesting that.
What say you, PopWatchers? Who do you think should host the ceremony?

Craig Ferguson, duh.
Geoff Peterson can co-host!
I could get behind a Craig Ferguson-hosted Emmys. Heck yeah!
In your pants!!
Yes!!!!!!
I would like to see Jimmy Fallon emcee at the Emmys again. If not him, then why not try Stephen Colbert (or Colbert with John Stewart)!
I’d love to see Jimmy back, I think he’s ridiculously underrated.
I bet he takes over when Leno finally leaves and keeps the job for a very long time.
JEFF PROBST. Considering he is the host to Burnett’s mega-hit survivor… do not be surprised.
He already hosted during the year the other 4 show hosts were nominated, along with him and they all bombed!
…even worse, don’t be at all surprised if he picks Boston Rob!
Well, the Emmy’s were on NBC last year, and Fallon was excellent. Curious if Fox would want to use “their” talent. As long as it’s not Ryan Seacrest, I’ll be happy.
I think that’s usually how it works. Since it’s on Fox, the host will probably be Ryan Seacrest, Seth MacFarlane, or one of the stars of “Glee” – perhaps Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison or Chris Colfer.
Jane Lynch would be fantastic!!
My thoughts exactly, I was totally thinking they would go Glee and Jane Lynch would be the best choice if they do that. Seth McFarlane wouldn’t be a bad choice either though.
Steve Carrell!! His turn on The Office is ending, give him this as a sendoff of sorts.
Since the network usually taps one of its own stars, it’ll probably be someone from Glee that I’ve never heard of.
Jane Lynch may not suck at it, but I see her more of a comedic actress rather than a comedian who can bring in a whole team of writers like Stewart/Colbert/Fallon/Conan would. She’d be subjected more to the Emmy writers, and this year’s Oscars show us how well THAT can work out.
Jane lynch
I would love if Jimmy hosted again, but I would love it even more if he got to host with Seth Meyers or Stephen Colbert.
How about Jimmy Fallon WITH Tina Fey? Though I wouldn’t count on that happening on a telecast on Fox.
Now this is the good idea!
Jon Hamm.
I was torn between Neil Patrick Harris & Jon Hamm. Jon has proven himself to have good comic timing and the ability to think fast on his feet when necessary.
Hugh Laurie FTW!!!!!!
This would never happen but how about the outrageous funny comedienne Sheryl Underwood. Most probably don`t know her but she is outrageous and that`s why the Emmys won`t have her. She`s a TV expert. She would be too much for the Emmys.
THAT’s why the Emmys won’t have her?? Because she’s outrageous?? And it would have nothing to do with the fact that no one knows who she is?
I don’t think most Americans knew (and still don’t know) who Ricky Gervais was until this last faux controversial Globes hosting gig. He is not exactly a household name. Sheryl Underwood — while relatively unknown from a mainstream perspective — is well known by black audiences (she is a regular on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and also was the host of Comic View on BET). She has been on the circuit for years and anyone following comedy circuits over the years should be familiar with her work. She is outrageously vulgar and incredibly funny. Somehow someone like Lisa Lampanelli (a no talent hack IMO) is more known that Underwood but then there is no justice in the world.
Assuming that FOX will pick someone from their network, and as long as it’s not Seacrest, how about Cat Deeley? We always complain how the Emmys NEVER give her recognition for her wonderful hosting abilities on SYTYCD, so why not? It might not be jokes all the time like having the comedians, but it can’t be as bad as having the 5 hosts
^^^Love this idea!!!
