Can Jacob possibly escape elimination tonight on 'American Idol'? Who else is in danger?

The consensus around PopWatch HQ is that Jacob Lusk’s wildly off-pitch, oddly hip-thrusting performance of the Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown duet “No Air” is easily the gospel diva’s worst ever on the show, and possibly one of the worst of the season period. Which is to say, if he doesn’t go home tonight, Lusk will rank alongside Nikki McKibbin and Jasmine Trias as one of the most tenacious how-has-this-person-stuck-around-this-long Idol contestants ever. (Those words are not easy for me to write, either — many of you will recall my defense of the Lusky Stank five weeks ago, back when his could-not-be-more-perfect performance of “You’re All I Need To Get By” was still ringing in my head. Sigh. Those were the days.)

Should Jacob pull off another narrow escape, who else is in the danger zone this week? Hopefully not Haley, whose “The House of the Rising Sun” was easily her best performance to date (and of the season period). Could Lauren (who was perfectly fine), James (who was emotionally raw and vocally shaky), and Scotty (who turned it up to 11 for his first song, and down to snoozeville for his second) finally find themselves officially sitting on a silver stool of doom?

Vote in the polls below on who you think will be in the bottom two this week, and who is going home, and then defend your choices in the comments!

Huge Haley fan, voted all night. Still very scared shes leaving tonight..

    • George

Hude Haley fan here too…. But it is going to be her. judges give her no credit and say Jacob did good. They are morons. They need to take tips from the voice judges!!

      • For me, for you, dawg

There has to be some backlash to the judges constant overpraise of the Lusky Stank and how little praise they give Haley. I have my fingers and toes crossed that Jacob’s journey ends tonight.

      • l

Lyndsey Parker from Yahoo Reality Rocks just made a blog 40 minutes ago, she said she thinks Lauren Alaina will be in the bottom three. I absolutely agree with Lyndsey. Even though Lauren sang great, she brought nothing to the song Unchained Melody.

    • bruno

think so too. sad. jacob should b gone, but idol history (sayesha was it, the penguins movie song?)tells me no….sigh

    • Joe

No, she is next week, Jacob is going!

    • kate middleton

I think Haley will be alright this week. She went last, and she was awesome at House of the Rising Sun. I will be really upset if anyone but Jacob goes home – I am so tired of him.

    • LKay

Haley deserves to be in the finals. And Haley FTW!!!

    • LKay

Based on this EW pole, nearly 92% believe Jacob is going home tonight! Let’s hope so!

      • Jess

Unfortunately I think last week the EW poll had above 80% believing Jacob will go home but we all know what happened last week. Fingers crossed though.

      • Debbi

        It’s POLL not pole

      • marymoon

and if we were voting for someone to go home, I think he would, but we are voting people to stay, so it makes it much more complicated

      • LV CRITIC

        POLE ??? HS DROPOUT ???

  • jrs

If Jacob does not go home tonight, I give up completely. That fat, no-talent, big mouth, bad-dancing, ego-centric, gospel-singing fool has no business on our TVs.

    • maybe

I think it might be Lauren that leaves instead of Jacob. Jacob has vote for the worst voting for him. Lauren tried to dress like Carrie, people are sick of the show pimping her and she is boring.

      • d

Jimmy and the judges would be mad if Lauren got eliminated, but after the way they treated Haley for the Lady Gaga song, those results would make my day.

      • General Lee

Sorry but the whole south is voting for her and scotty. I voted strong for both of them.

      • Templar

I don’t think Lauren is boring. I think Idol just overwhelmed her and she lost confidence. She has potential, but she’s in over her head.

      • kate middleton

I really don’t think Vote for the Worst matters….they think they have a big influence, but they rarely do.

I really hope Jacob goes home.

      • @ General Lee

Sorry, the ‘whole south’ is voting for Lauren and Scotty? Well the last time i checked, i live in the South and I didn’t vote for Lauren OR Scotty. In fact, I voted for Haley based on her overall performance rather than voting based on geography. Please don’t presume to speak for me or for all the people who live in the South.

      • Hines for the Win

This person who lives in the south would NEVER vote for Scott or Lauren.

      • Fingerlakes Dave

What is it with you people an Lauren? I think she did very well first song, and OK second.
For whatever reason (probably being 16) she can’t keep her confidence.

    • sarah d

He’s not FAT, just chubby. But seriously, he’s terrible and has been from the beginning.

      • kate middleton

I agree. I don’t think he’s fat. But I HATE his singing and attitude. I am still pissed about that rude Man in the Mirror stuff he said. He thinks he is God’s gift.

    • Anne

Jacob should go back to jail where he belongs. He has no talent, has a really nasty attitude, please go home.

      • CandaceTX

@Anne: to jail? wtf is that about? I sincerely that was your pitiful attempt at being provocative.

      • @ Candance

Anne is referring to the fact that Jacob was arrested and convicting earlier last year after a warrant was put out for him when he skipped showing up to Court for a misdemeanor. Jacob was in jail for 3 days and was given 1 year’s probation, which was ultimately waived when he begged the judge for leniency because Idol wouldn’t have let him in if he was on probation. This was in the news so Anne isn’t trying to be provocative.

      • lorrie

Let me see if I’ve got this straight. The man who was too pure to sing a song about an intimate relationship was arrested due to some sort of criminal behavior and last night grabbed his crotch on national tv.

    • jackie

Jacob has a right to be there just as everyone else. The two women suck and their days are numbered. Trust!

  • jared

I just wonder how long it will take after this season of Idol ends for Jacob to finally have that gender reassignment he’s been hoping for.

    • GavinStrick

Bwahaha! He reminds me of a drag act–actually he isn’t as good as many drag acts I’ve listened to!

  • Cesar

I LOVE THAT JACOB IS AT 97 PERCENT HAHA

    • The Troll Hunter

Unfortunately he was over 83% last week and still survived. Here’s hoping justice will finally be done tonight and this no-talent can go back to doing whatever job he had before he appeared on Idol.

    • dean

      Me too!

  • Kelly

I still think that Jacob would be a fabulous drag queen.

    • Shannon

He may have been one already. “Lusky Stank” might actually work as a drag name.

      • layla

His drag name should be Luthorina Vandrossa

    • jasper

OMG!!!!! almost everyone that i know that watches the show says the same thing. work it girl swish swish swish!!!!

    • jrs

Yes, he’d be a fabulous drag queen…especially the type that LIP SYNCS to others’ songs.

  • Shannon

It is time (as it was many weeks ago) for Jacob to go. I’m even sending him off with a potential album title. How about “Gay Outta Compton”? You know instead of “Straight Outta..” Yeah, you get it.
It was a lame joke, but I couldn’t resist.

  • o i’m bored

Jacob and James the Sanjaya’s of this season.

    • James all the way

James is the most entertaining idol since Adam what’s his name?

      • rebeka

I am so tired of people comparing james to adam lamb#### he is a freak, a reject, he is one no talented dragqueen!! James is so talented, he is a great singer, and he always looks good, he has great stage presence.. I am voting for james to win Idol.. I love watching him everyweek.. he is #1..

    • DebraD

I love James-he’s my favorite, and I’ve been voting for him since the beginning. Plus, he’s from Santa Cruz, Ca-I’ve gotta root for the local boy!

  • Shannon

James is such an emotional funbag. (Am I calling him a boob? Not exactly, but you can take it how you want to.) I really want him to stay in the safety zone and in the competition to the finale, but he really wasn’t in his vocal element last night. He may “leave everything on stage”, but a reminder to stay on key (a post-it note a la Heidi) might be a good thing to leave out there with his very soul, a tear puddle, an occasional hangnail, etc. And he should probably consider leaving his feet on stage because the wandering into the audience doesn’t help him.

  • bb

Jacob ruins every song he sings. I dislike his voice and his personality.

  • nunnya

I can’t even stand the thoughts of Hayley going home in 4th place much less tonight…

  • dean

first of all y the nasty comments this happens in every season, jacob can sing, every season all contestants have some bad days!

    • Shannon

      Even bad seasons?

    • Sam

Sure all contestants have bad days. But the comments are justified given the fact that Jacob has had a ‘bad day’ for almost every single performance this season. The rare occasions that he sings well (and sings in tune) are the exception not the rule.

  • Blue

Jacob was horrendous last night and the judges are so afraid of telling someone they suck. So fine I’ll say it… no offense but that was absolutely dreadful.

  • BeBe

It will be Jacob even though it should have been him last week and Casey would still be in it to win it. I MISS CASEY AND STEPANO!

  • Amy

It is a travesty if Hayley goes home! Jacob has not been very good all season and Hayley has just been getting better and better.

  • MC

Adam B. Vary, I totally agree with you about his performance of “you’re all i need to get by”, but he has really gone downhill since then and hasn’t had an on-key performance to save his life. I’m guessing it will be Jacob that goes.
On another note, why does James Durbin continue to get a free pass for his wildly off-key performances? The guy has been screeching off key for nearly every performance and I really don’t understand the love for him. Is it because of his disability? Let’s just say I wouldn’t be sad if James went home instead of Jacob this week.
    Haley for the win!

    • James all the way

Kind of reminds you of that other screeching guy? He had one bad song, but James has been original and bringing it all season! GO James!

      • DebraD

Yes, agreed! James has been amazing. I remember him from the auditions-he really stood out then, as he does now!
