Of all the hundred million reasons to praise Super Mario Bros. 3 — the warp whistles, the shy ghosts, the questionable assertion that raccoon body parts allow you to fly — you should never forget about the iconic musical score by legendary game composer Koji Kondo. Musician Scott Bradlee has put together an acoustic version of the score, set to a hypnotic speed-run of the game. It’s a classy, jazzy tribute, full of fun little moments — pay special attention to the moment around 10:35, when Mario fights Bowser. Check out the full video below: READ FULL STORY »

Lindsay Lohan on 'The Tonight Show': 'I'm a fighter. And I know I have to work to gain the respect back.'

During his interview with Lindsay Lohan on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno told the star that Jane Fonda, among others, considered Lohan one of the best actresses she’s worked with. Well, that’s certainly true if she was anything less than genuine during her sit-down, in which Lohan spoke about her troubled past and current legal issues. Because I’m convinced: This time around, Lohan really is ready to turn over a new leaf. Though Leno spoke briefly to Lohan about her upcoming role as Kim Gotti in Gotti: Three Generations, it didn’t take long for the Tonight Show host to talk about Lohan’s well-publicized problems. While discussing Lohan’s love for The Godfather and her meeting Gotti as a toddler, Leno quipped, “Hanging out with John Gotti when you’re three. That’s a bad decision. That could be why you’re in so much trouble now.” (Lohan’s response: “Oh, thank you. I was waiting for that to come up.”)
What followed was an honest conversation about the actress’ past — and how much she’s looking towards a positive future. READ FULL STORY »
'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' changes title to 'Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1'
Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a surreal, absurdist, relentlessly bizarre series about a milkshake, a box of french fries, and a ball of ground meat who live together in New Jersey and go on non-adventures. Because we live in an insane world, this show has been on for a decade, and has inspired both a movie and a bomb scare. Now, though, everything is changing. In a new video released by Adult Swim, a horrible Meatwad puppet explains, “The creative forces behind Aqua Teen Hunger Force are unhappy with the pilot of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and the subsequent 99 episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.” Thus, the show’s eighth season will feature a new setting — hello, Seattle! — and a new theme song by Josh Homme — farewell, Schoolly D! Also, the show has been retitled Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1.
So, in short, a show that used to have nothing to do with about teenagers, hunger, a force, or anything pertaining to “aqua” will now have nothing to do with units, patrols, squads, the number 1, or anything pertaining to “aqua.” News! Watch the announcement video below: READ FULL STORY »
Katie Couric to depart from CBS Evening News, so who should host next?
After nearly five years as the anchor for the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric officially announced today that she would be departing the program. Couric will reportedly be pursuing other projects, one of which may include a daytime talk show that she would co-host with her former Today Show cohort/Thanksgiving Day parade commentator Matt Lauer.
While we can’t wait to see what Couric does next (hey, if Gwyneth Paltrow can keep returning to Glee, she can, too!) we’re equally curious about who will take over her post on the Evening News. The rumored front-runners for the job include equally qualified newscasters like Scott Pelley, Harry Smith and Russ Mitchell, but who else could possibly be her successors? READ FULL STORY »
Tina Fey talks comedy, Sarah Palin, and 'Full House' at Google
Tina Fey joined Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt for an hour-long chat recently to promote her book Bossypants, that you can now watch online (shocking!). See it below. It starts getting good around 8:40, when Fey discusses the main difference between male and female comedy writers. In addition to some men’s penchant for peeing in cups (so that’s real?), she says, “Also, the men sometimes pretend to rape each other. The women never do that… I deal in generalizations.” She also talks about Sarah Palin impression and how she believes there’s a double standard when it’s a female impersonating a female — the media never referred to it as “mean” when Will Ferrell did George W. Bush or Darrell Hammond did Bill Clinton. READ FULL STORY »
