For seven seasons on The Office, Michael Scott has served as the crazy crown prince of cringe while being responsible for more lost man hours than carpal tunnel syndrome. But that comes to an end tonight as we say goodbye to the world’s best/worst boss — played to perfection by Steve Carell — with a 50-minute episode (9 p.m. on NBC). As we look back and remember the good times we spent with the great Scott, we ask a tough question: Is it possible to choose a single favorite Michael Scott moment? EW presented that challenge to the show’s three writer-actors — Mindy Kaling (Kelly), B.J. Novak (Ryan), and Paul Lieberstein (Toby). READ FULL STORY »

The NFL Draft gets us pumped...to watch inspiring movie and television football speeches

friday

With just a few hours left until the 2011 NFL Draft gets underway, it’s time to start getting pumped up. After all, these are the future gridiron heroes who will occupy our fantasy leagues and render our Sunday afternoons completely ineffective.

So what better way to get in the zone (that is, without actually having to play football) than by watching inspiring speeches from football movies and television shows?! Because as much as football is a brutal sport, it’s also one with a lot of heart. At least, that’s the story that we’re sticking to for crying at all these clips.  READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Who did you think would win eight weeks ago? Who do you think will win now?

Eight weeks after we met our Top 13 in March, we are now halfway through American Idol‘s finalist round, with six contestants fighting for the title. (Well, not really halfway, but season 10 doesn’t boast a half-competitor to make it official. Plus since when have entertainment journalists been good at math?) So, with just weeks left in the competition, I’m finding myself looking back on the season thus far, which has waffled between having a clear-cut favorite to being completely devoid of any frontrunner at all. And, boy, how things have changed! If you asked me back when we were first introduced to Idol‘s Top 13 who would become Your. American. Idol., I would have named our jazzy Fraggle Rock Casey without any hesitation. Now, I can’t help thinking (sadly) that Casey’s niched days are numbered.

Instead, someone I wrote off as an Adam Lambert-wannabe back in March has emerged as not only a contender for the crown, but one of my favorite contestants in several seasons as well: READ FULL STORY »

'Tree of Life': What is Terrence Malick's summer opus really about?

Nestled in between the summer superhero films and action sequels is Terrence Malick’s mysterious Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Its trailer is gorgeous but perplexing, like all of Malick’s movies (The New World, The Thin Red Line), and it only made me hungrier for any details about the May 27 release. So what is it about? According to Fiona Shaw (Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter films), who may or may not have a significant role in the film, “I can’t tell you entirely what it’s about because it’s about everything — it’s about a family and it’s about time and space.” READ FULL STORY »

Bradley Cooper rocks a sweet new 'stache, but it's no Swanson

It’s a safe assumption that Bradley Cooper’s new mustache, which recently made its grand debut on The Hangover 2 star’s face, is for an upcoming role. Hey, who knew they finally got the ball rolling on that Magnum P.I. remake?!

Though, to be fair, Cooper may have just gotten a job at Urban Outfitters or perhaps he’s desperately trying trying to channel Ron Burgundy. Or maybe he’s simply sporting the mandatory post-break-up new look (take that, Renee!).

Still, leave it to Cooper to still look desirable while sporting a ‘stache (it’s certainly less upsetting than when Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling gave it a go on their equally handsome heads). And although it’s a valiant effort, he’s not even close to being on the same level as Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation. Then again, who is?

What do you think of Bradley Cooper’s mustache, PopWatchers? Is it a sweet nose neighbor or should he shave it as soon as possible?

Royal Wedding poll: Will you get up to watch Wills and Kate tie the knot?

In less than 16 hours, Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally getting married. The event is going to be exciting, extravagant, and — if you live in the U.S. of A. — really freakin’ early in the morning. Networks will air coverage of the melee in London starting at 4 a.m. ET; EW’s own liveblog will begin at 5:15 (we’ll give you more information on that later); and the marriage service itself starts at 6 a.m.. Since the highlights of the ceremony and the procession will no doubt be played ad nauseum throughout the rest of the day and the weekend, even those who elect to sleep through it will have plenty of opportunities to see the prince and his bride say “I do.” (Also, DVRs exist. The wonders of modern technology!) But there’s still something to be said for watching the events unfold live — even if you’ll have to wake up before any roosters are even thinking about crowing in order to do so.

Riddle me this, PopWatchers: Are you planning to drag yourself out of bed at an ungodly hour to see the royal wedding? Vote in our poll below to let us know. READ FULL STORY »

Damon Wayans Sr. cameos on son's show 'Happy Endings.' What other family pairings would you like to see on TV?

Happy-Endings

During last night’s episode of Happy Endings, was anyone else hoping that in addition to Damon Wayans Sr.’s guest stint as Damon Wayans Jr.’s dad (yes, it was quite a stretch) that the entire gaggle of Wayanses would show up? Not only would it have been overwhelming (at last count there are roughly 312 of them), but family cameos pretty much always make for good TV.

While Papa Wayans’ appearance on the freshman ABC sitcom as a rough-around-the-edges dad likely won’t go down in the pantheon of great patriarch guest spots (though he did look awesome in that track suit) it did serve as a reminder that these casting stints are actually something get on board with. Case in point: Justine Bateman as Michael’s (brother Jason Bateman) fake estranged sister/actual hooker on Arrested Development and the genius move to make Zooey Deschanel play a relative of Bones (sister Emily Deschanel) on — you guessed it – Bones.

But who else on TV should keep it all in the family? READ FULL STORY »

'Thor': Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston storm their way through the 'Thor: God of Thunder' videogame -- EXCLUSIVE

Thor-game

Thor — the latest Marvel Studios superhero opus starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins — opens May 6 and holds the distinction of being the summer movie season’s first major release. But Sega’s official videogame tie-in — Thor: God of Thunder — hits stores three days earlier, and instead of being a traditional adaptation of the film, it tells an original story that has the hammer-wielding mythic hero battling trolls, frost giants, and fire gods in a number of mystical realms. In an intriguing twist, the story requires that Thor partner with a character that often serves as his arch-enemy in the comics, mischief-making god Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston in the movie. Might the game serve as a kind of prologue to the film? Methinks we’ll have to play it to find out! Hemsworth and Hiddleston voiced their characters in the game; check out this exclusive behind the scenes video of the actors at work. WARNING! Prepared to have the phrase “FEEL THE BITE OF WINTER!” thundering in your head all day. READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Who will go home tonight? Will Scotty, James, or Lauren land in the bottom three?

idol-top-6

With just six contestants left on American Idol, the contestant’s ability to deliver sock-it-to-ya performances each week is becoming increasingly vital to their chances of sticking around. Of the six, two have been in the bottom three a total of six times (Haley and Jacob); one hasn’t been in the bottom three since the week he was saved by the judges (Casey); and three have never once known the particular shame of sitting on the silver stools of doom (Scotty, James, and Lauren). Could last night’s performances from the Carole King songbook shake up the competition and send someone from that latter trio into danger? Could Randy deliver a single critique last night without coming off like a inane twerp?  READ FULL STORY »
