Will Arnett is a sociopath, can take an impressively large bite of a sandwich in new Denny's ad with David Koechner

It’s Will Arnett’s turn to play with David Koechner in the latter’s series of commercials for Denny’s. (The spots starring the Anchorman actor, as you may remember, are called “Always Open with Dave Koechner.”) And there are so many delicious things about the latest ad: That grilled sandwich, the apples in the painting behind Koechner, “dolphin eyes,” and Arnett’s mere presence, to name a few. Yep, nothing says breakfast like a little talk about nudity and murder. Also: Arnett’s chokehold at the end of the commercial? Even more verification that he may be The Office‘s Scranton Strangler. Grab on to the commercial below!

This Week's Cover: The bloody battle over 'Scream 4'

Released in December 1996, Scream was a sleeper hit that grossed just $6 million in its first weekend but went on to rake in $103 million in the U.S. The winking, self-aware thriller, directed by A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Wes Craven, followed a group of teens well versed in the rules of horror films — and spoke to a young audience just as savvy about the genre’s clichés. It yielded two sequels, which amassed $101 million and $89 million, respectively. In total, the franchise surpassed more than half a billion dollars internationally. On April 15, after eleven long years, it’s finally returning to theaters, along with original cast members Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell.

Fans should feel lucky that there’s another installment arriving at all, given how easily Scream 4 could have fallen apart. READ FULL STORY »

Jeff Probst on episode 8 of 'Survivor: Redemption Island'

Each week, Survivor host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Redemption Island.

Okay, Jeff, put yourself in Matt’s shoes. Ometepe voted you off early but now you’ve made it back in the game and the other tribe is trying to bring you over to their side. What do you do in that position?
I think I would have made the same choice as Matt. Zapatera just didn’t seem the right way to go. The lesson I learned in watching Matt is sometimes sharing your inner monologue is a really bad idea. The truth is Rob wanted him gone either way, but Matt made it easy by sharing that he considered betraying Rob. Rob used that against him in convincing the tribe to get rid of him.  READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' on the scene for Top 9 performance night: Impromptu dancing, Steven Tyler's mighty appetite, and Jennifer Lopez throws a punch

Idol-Paul2

Who do you send home after a night as strong as that? (Okay, my answer would be Paul, but even his performance tickled my typically Paul-phobic soul.) As I was exiting the Idoldome, that was the question on everyone’s mind. One female audience member summed it up best: “Usually there are one or two performances that don’t quite work, but tonight was different.”

Tonight was different. For one thing, the crowd was rowdier than I’ve ever seen it, frequently violating Idol Commandment No. 7: Thou shall not yell during the sacred post-song banter between Ryan Seacrest and a contestant. Interscope mentor Jimmy Iovine was nowhere to be found, thereby reducing the number of folded arms in the audience by 31 percent. And Casey’s upright bass, having been recovered from Nigel Lythgoe’s titanium vault, finally made its first live-show appearance.

As for what you didn’t see on TV, there’s much to discuss: an Idol hoedown, the world’s scariest Slinky, why J.Lo punched Randy Jackson, Cheesecake Factory attire, and the snacking habits of Steven Tyler. Here are your behind-the-scene highlights: READ FULL STORY »

Glenn Beck talks about leaving Fox News -- VIDEO

Glenn-Beck

As his show came to a close today, Glenn Beck discussed the news that he will sunset his daily show on Fox News later this year. You can watch the entire clip below, but first, without commentary or context, my top five favorite things he says:

5. “I have other things to do, and not because it’s good or bad for business. But I think you, out of all the people, will truly get this: Our only business is the business of freedom and our country at this time.”
4. “We will find each other. I’m developing other content for Fox, through specials and other things, on television and beyond.”
3. “It bothers me to be entering this phase and feel as though you might say, ‘Well, wait wait wait wait wait!‘”
2. “I don’t like conflict.”
1. “Paul Revere did not get up on his horse and say, ‘Ha! I’m going to do this for the rest of my life!’ …He went back to silver-smithing.”

'Parenthood' goes to prom: What's the best prom episode?

Parenthood-Prom

TV prom season is upon us, and depending on your experience in high school, these fictitious events can either bring back horrible memories you’ve been trying to suppress (by watching so much television, natch) or make you jealous that your alma mater didn’t have enough money for a fancy ice sculpture.

Last night’s Parenthood offered up one of the first takes on ye old high school tradition of the season (not to worry, there’ll be plenty more), and as always, the episode aimed to get the entire family involved, even though only cousins Haddie (Sarah Ramos) and Amber (Mae Whitman) were attending. 'La Cage Aux Folles' Broadway revival closing in May

La-Cage

La Cage Aux Folles is being plucked from Broadway. The show, which currently stars Harvey Fierstein and Christopher Sieber, will see its final performance Sunday, May 1. The revival won the 2010 Tony for Best Revival of a Musical, and will have played 433 performances by its finale (with 15 previews to boot). The closing, however, is not entirely unexpected: The show had seen its numbers drop after Fierstein and Sieber replaced the original cast, led by Douglas Hodge and Kelsey Grammer. “We’re sorry to have to announce the final weeks of this exuberant production, which has brought great joy to audiences for the last year, as well as to everyone who has worked on the show, on stage and off,” the producers said in a press release. “But we were thrilled to present Terry Johnson’s brilliant production to great acclaim in New York and now, the rest of the country will discover this wonderful new La Cage on national tour this fall. In the meantime, we will enjoy ‘The Best of Times’ while they last at the Longacre, with the wonderful Harvey Fierstein and Christopher Sieber leading our brilliant Broadway company.

Indeed, La Cage will be flying around the nation starting in October: The touring production will make its first stop in Des Moines, Iowa.

Julianne Moore channels Hillary Clinton. Let the nightmares begin.

Moore-Clinton

She is set to play Sarah Palin in the upcoming HBO adaptation of Game Change, but you might remember that Julianne Moore had also been tapped to play Hillary Clinton in The Special Relationship, alongside Dennis Quaid. The role was eventually given Hope Davis after Moore stepped down to do The Kids Are All Right. But BlackBook has discovered the makeup test from the project, which shows Moore in full Clinton mode — and it’s pretty terrifying.

I think it might be the smile that’s giving me the heebie-jeebies. Moore is clearly trying to smile like Clinton…but it’s not happening. It makes the entire look more Stepford than Statehouse.

I guess that scheduling conflict turned out to be a pretty good decision.

'The Hangover Part II' trailer pulled from theaters. Were you offended?

Hangover-2

Looks like what happened in Bangkok stays out of the theaters: The Los Angeles Times reported earlier today that Warner Bros. had requested that its trailer for The Hangover Part II that premiered last week be pulled from all theaters. Now, Warner Bros. confirms the news to EW, releasing this statement:  “In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens.”

Apparently, the trailer had been airing before screenings of the PG-13 Source Code, and though you’d be hard pressed to find any complaints about the Hangover trailer on the Web (or, heck, amongst your friends), its adult content — including a shot of a monkey mock-simulating a sexual act — was deemed too inappropriate for under-17 audiences. But because there was no outcry (a source tells EW that the studio had not received any complaints) we have to ask: Were you offended by The Hangover Part II trailer? READ FULL STORY »
