'Justified': Raylan's 'ready to explode.' How great will these final two episodes be?

Justified

When Justified exec producer Graham Yost teased that something horrific would happen at the end of season 2′s eleventh episode that would have Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens “ready to explode,” we should have guessed he meant the (presumed) death of his Aunt Helen, but I didn’t see it coming until Dickie and his new Coover (Noover?) showed up in her kitchen. Watch the scene below. I hate to see a strong woman like Helen go, but if it was her on the stretcher shown in next week’s kickass promo (also embedded below), I like that she went out shotgun in hand. (We know from her gasp she was hit, but there were two shots fired.) I also like how it instantly made everything more complicated: Raylan already hates his father, whose new partnership with outlaw Boyd is to blame for Helen taking a bullet, but does he hate Dickie more? Will Raylan, who had no problem going rogue this episode, use his always-loaded guns on Dickie for revenge, or will he control himself and bring him in by the book? Will Mags turn on Dickie, who she’s already all but disowned, after what he did to Givens-Bennett peacekeeper Helen, or will she not want to lose another son to Raylan? And where does this leave Raylan and Boyd, who’s shown alongside Ava raising guns at Raylan in the promo? (Really, Ava?)  READ FULL STORY »

Melania Trump talks The Donald's presidential bid, Obama's birth certificate: 'It's not only Donald who wants to see it.'

Melania Trump appeared on The Joy Behar Show Wednesday night to talk about Donald Trump’s supposed bid for the presidency. Behar asked the question that’s on everyone’s mind: Is Trump just seeking publicity (as some NBC execs think), or is he serious about running for president in 2012? According to Trump, it’s the latter: “Look, he doesn’t need the publicity stunt,” she tells Behar. “He’s successful. He will make a decision prior to June. And he’s very passionate about the country … We all know the troubles in American nowadays. And he wants to see everybody doing well. The issue is about bringing jobs back. Bringing jobs to the country. And he’s very passionate about that. And I see that people really like it.” It’s true: Trump is performing astonishingly well in the polls. The Celebrity Apprentice star, however, has been criticized for being part of the “birther” movement, demanding to see President Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Not surprisingly, Melania Trump is also Team Birther. “It’s not only Donald who wants to see it,” she tells Behar. “It’s American people who voted for him and who didn’t vote for him. They want to see that.”

'American Idol': Last night's most unnecessary moment? Poll!

paul-girls-idol

What was the most unnecessary moment during last night’s American Idol? The nominees are:

• Paul being forced to sing Pink’s “So What” in a group number with the rest of the fallen. Would anyone have minded if it had just been a ladies’ number/reason to bring back Pia? I don’t think so. That’s what I thought it was until Paul walked out.

• Randy Jackson’s diva-gloved preface to Jacob: “Just to help you, because I think critique really helps everyone really, me, all of us… ” You know how little critiquing Randy has actually done this season if he felt the need to say that when we’re down to seven contestants.

• Ryan Seacrest’s non-interview with Mark Ballas. Who’s his favorite this season? Casey. “That’s a curveball!”

• Casey kissing Jennifer Lopez on the cheek. I’d like to know if it was pre-planned. If he just intended to end the song singing in her face and inspiration to pucker up hit him when she turned her cheek toward him so he could whisper the final notes in her ear, it was tolerable. If he’d rehearsed it in his mind, it was gimmicky and he’s better than that. (For the record, vocal coach Debra Byrd says the kiss wasn’t pre-planned.)

• Steven dropping the F-bomb after Casey’s performance when he had plenty of time to think about what he was going to say because Jennifer and Randy offered their “critiques” first (and when, frankly, those high notes James hit were more deserving of it).

James Frey returning to Oprah Winfrey show. Whose team are you on?

Back in 2006, it’s clear that James Frey vs. Oprah resulted in a total KO in favor of the talk show maven. But! Could the tables be turned later this year? Harpo confirms to EW that James Frey is set to return to The Oprah Winfrey Show sometime in May, five years after being publicly scolded and humiliated by Oprah for fabricating parts of his best-selling memoir, A Million Little Pieces. We shouldn’t, however, expect a scene as tense as the one we all witnessed in 2006; after all, Oprah did apologize to Frey for shaming him on TV in 2009. And the author has made quite a rebound since being forced to refund disappointed readers: He’s released the 2008 best-seller Bright Shiny Morning and is the man behind Pittacus Lore, the alien “author” of I Am Number Four. One thing is clear, though: The show will be must-see television. And no doubt you’ve already chosen a side. READ FULL STORY »

Jennifer Lopez launches new reality series. Should she return to 'Idol' next season?

jennifer-lopez-idol

It’s only been one season, but, honestly, now that Jennifer Lopez has proven to be an apt, attentive, and charming judge, I can’t imagine an American Idol without her. (As Steven Tyler would say, she’s simply “beautiful” on the reality series.) So I can’t help but feel a bit nervous hearing about her new Idol-esque reality show with husband Marc Antony, in which the pair search Latin America for the best undiscovered singing talent. (EW exclusively broke news of the series, tentatively titled Que Viva.) Since The Most Beautiful Woman in the World is signed on for only one season of Idol, does this mean she could part ways with the Fox hit? Not necessarily: As EW’s James Hibberd reports, it’s likely that Lopez could pull double duty, since Idol hasn’t kept other judges from pursuing their own passion projects. (See: Randy Jackson and America’s Best Dance Crew.) Still, it begs the question: Should J.Lo return to Idol next season? READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber, Chris Colfer, Matthew Weiner make 'TIME' 100

It’s time! What time? Well, time to honor the 2011 TIME 100. That is, the 100 most influential people in the world, awarded by TIME magazine. Though a bulk of the list is made up of political leaders and global newsmakers (see: Julian Assange, Barack and Michelle Obama, Michele Bachmann), plenty of the entertainment industry’s bigwigs have come along for the ride as well. Not surprisingly, the list’s got Bieber and Royal Wedding fever: Tween sensation Justin Bieber and soon-to-be-wed Kate Middleton and Prince William make the cut. But TIME has also channeled their inner Gleek, placing Chris Colfer — a.k.a. Kurt Hummel — on the list as well. Other pop culture names to make the cut: Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, Parks and Recreation‘s Amy Poehler, singer Bruno Mars, Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, National Book Award winner Patti Smith, Academy Award winner Colin Firth, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, and Blake Lively, the Gossip Girl actress who shocked us all with her powerful performance in The Town. And, of course, what list would be a list without the Big O herself? Oprah Winfrey, now in her final season of her talk show, is also included in the TIME 100. See the full list here.

Jeff Probst on episode 10 of 'Survivor: Redemption Island'

Each week, Survivor host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Redemption Island.

Very close and tense house of cards duel between Mike, Matt, and David at Redemption Island. Why move from one-on-one duels before the merge to group duels post-merge?
It’s simply a numbers thing. In order to have enough people to get us through the majority of the season we end up having too many at the end, so we have to get rid of them! It made sense to increase the numbers post merge. One of the exciting benefits of having multiple people at Redemption is that it keeps more people in the game, all with a shot at the money. The final episode will have eight people still vying for a shot at winning. READ FULL STORY »

From James Durbin’s militaristic take on Muse’s “Uprising” to Jacob Lusk’s shaky start with Luther Vandross’ “Dance with My Father,” once again, American Idol vocal coach and arranger Debra Byrd and associate music director and arranger Michael Orland are here to give their peerless insights into the Idol Top 7′s attempt at 21st century music. For a decade, Byrd and Orland have been on the front lines with the contestants, from Hollywood Week to the grand finale in May. 'American Idol': Steven Tyler's F-bomb and Jacob Lusk's musical snafu, on the scene of Top 7 performance night

Of the many, many, many differences between Season 10 and Season 9 of American Idol, one of the most striking to me is how suddenly we’re all deeply interested in the dating lives of the contestants this year. As I made my way to my seat in the Idoldome last night, I overheard one woman say with great concern and earnestness, “I just don’t know how he met Nikki Reed.” And the two women with pleasant perfume seated next to me — one a big Haley fan, the other a big Casey fan, with the clear impression that there was a heated debate over glasses of Chardonnay about who was better — were all too happy to point out to me that Dancing With the Stars pro Mark Ballas and his father Corky were both seated in the front row in “very dapper” looking suits. 'Cougar Town': Adventures in babysitting

Cougar-Town-4-20

It’s like Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) in April with TWO new episodes of Cul-De-Sac Crew…umm Cougar City…I mean Cougar Town this week. So let’s pound grape and dive right into it!

In Wednesday’s “Baby’s A Rock ‘N’ Roller,” we were reminded of baby Stan. That’s right. Ellie and Andy have a kid. Really, they do! I’m not making it up. And thus a plot was born: In order to prove that it’s a lot harder to raise a baby in your 40s than in your 20s, Ellie gets Jules (and Grayson by association) to babysit Stan. Team Ellie pointed out when Jules had Travis, she was young, had a lot of energy, and was too dumb to worry about screwing him up. Team Jules seemed to think that with a devoted husband and nanny, Ellie had it easy peasy. So Jules put all of her dangerous items in the pantry and her babysitting duties began. READ FULL STORY »
