'Oprah Behind the Scenes': Best episode to date?

If I ever run into Jennifer Hudson at a Weight Watchers meeting, I’m going to have to bop that girl upside the head. In Sunday’s episode of Oprah Behind the Scenes, we learned that the still-svelte crooner almost prompted Oprah Winfrey and her team to cancel their first show ever — the equivalent of Armageddon within the Harpo Studios walls. The irony of BTS, which is meant to chronicle what Winfrey describes as “the best team in the business,”  is that it’s at its juiciest when something goes wrong on Oprah. So while wreaking havoc on the good people of Harpo, Hudson also inadvertently helped to deliver the best episode to date of BTS. 'Game of Thrones': Viewer outrage over cute character's death

Game of Thrones viewers are howling in protest over the shocking ending of the show’s second episode.

“My girlfriend swears she is done watching [Thrones] after what happened to___,” wrote one viewer on EW’s recap. “[They can] sleep with as many people as they want, but don’t kill ____. Or I’m done!” threatened another. “People on my Facebook wall are posting that they won’t watch anymore after what they did to___” wrote a third.

And the dead character was (spoiler below) … READ FULL STORY »

'Celebrity Apprentice': And the fired celebrity is...

In an episode that saw Donald Trump promoting both his possible presidential run and his line of luxury hotels, another celebrity was given the proverbial boot. Who was sent down Trump Tower for a ride around the block in a waiting car service? My full recap will be up at 2am (UPDATE: Click over to see Dalton’s full Celebrity Apprentice recap), but if you’ve already watched tonight’s episode and want to sound off about who was eliminated and why, then read on for more. [SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched Sunday's episode of Celebrity Apprentice.] READ FULL STORY »

'Britain's Got Talent' contestant Edward Reid is our Totally Fabulous Easter Bunny of the Day

Now that’s what I call song rearrangement!

Edward Reid, a 35-year-old drama teacher from Glasgow, sang an unexpectedly gorgeous kid-friendly medley — including “Old MacDonald,” “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star,” and “Humpty Dumpty” — for his Britain’s Got Talent audition Saturday.

“I can definitely see you getting booked for Elton John’s child’s first birthday party,” said judge Michael McIntyre. “Thank God for you!” said honorary British person David Hasselhoff.

If you’re happy and you know it but feel like crying a little (while grinning!), go watch it on YouTube because BGT has disabled embedding on other sites.

'Smallville' recap: A timely 'Booster' shot of comic book fanboy fun

Smallville

It’s been a rough year for sports heroes. Barry Bonds was busted for lying about steroids. Tiger Woods was exposed as a philanderer. Kobe Bryant was caught on video using a hateful slur to disparage a referee. And then, of course, there was that certain one-time championship talent, celebrated for its ability to outlast, outwit, and outplay his competitors, who still can’t straighten himself out with the Internal Revenue Service. The flaws and foibles and offensive f-ups of our cultural idols offer us an invitation to reflect on our own moral integrity, capacity for forgiveness, philosophy of justice, and belief in forgiveness. Or gossip. Mostly gossip. Put another way, the phenomenon of the fallen hero is always good for revealing how we define heroism at any given moment of time. Last night’s episode of Smallville played like a parable for all these themes. On the surface, “Booster” — written by comic book superstar Geoff Johns and directed by Smallville star Tom Welling — was noteworthy for its DC Comics-imported fanboy fun (Booster Gold! Blue Beetle! Ted Kord! The Legion of Super-Heroes!) and totally cornball “just believe in yourself” homily. But “Booster” may have also been one of the more timely episodes of Smallville in quite a while, a comic book mirror to a moment of tarnished icons that reflected back some of the qualities we most need from our public role models.  READ FULL STORY »

HBO's 'Talking Funny': Are you having a laugh?

talking-funny

I’m finding it hard to think of a better way to spend the 9-10 p.m. Friday night hour than watching four comedians shoot the s— about what it means to be funny. God, I really need to get a life! But seriously: Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K. just lulled me into prime yay-weekend mode with their stream-of-consciousness ridiculata — and intelligent discussion, too. I only wish this were a weekly series instead of a one-time special. Even a podcast would work. Just get everyone on the phone — we don’t care about sound quality! READ FULL STORY »

Old Spice keeping Danger Zone pitchman Neal Bledsoe abroad (for now?)

Categories: Advertising, Grooming
Old-Spice

Old Spice has been making headlines for a new commercial that doesn’t feature Old Spice Guy Isaiah Mustafa? What? A rep for the company confirms the buzzworthy Danger Zone spot, embedded below, is for a product currently only sold outside the U.S., which is also where the ad featuring Ugly Betty actor Neal Bledsoe is running. Will the spot make its way stateside so Mustafa and Bledsoe can share the spotlight? “We have a lot of entertaining campaigns planned for the future, but our favorite thing is to surprise our fans, so forgive us if we can’t give you details today,” the company tells EW. Old Spice spoilerphobes? Are we at that point? READ FULL STORY »

iPhone 5 might be coming in September. What do you NEED to see?

The newest model of Apple’s iconic iPhone will hit stores in September, according to a Reuters report that cites three unnamed sources “with direct knowledge of the company’s supply chain.” The report indicates that the new iPhone — colloquially known as the “iPhone 5,” although I’m holding out hope that they call it “iPhone: Ghost Protocol” — will look similar to the iPhone 4 (pictured). Meanwhile, PC World theorized that the new iPhone would sport the dual-core A5 processor used in the iPad 2, while the CFO of Verizon was quoted on an earnings call indicating that a “new device from Apple” would be “a global device,” which indicates that the Verizon iPhone 5s might work in more countries than the current models. (It’s still unclear if the new iPhone would use 4G, although you could argue that it’s still unclear exactly what 4G is.) Putting aside the tech jargon, what would you like to see in the new model iPhone? Apple fans, is there anything you’re missing from the current model? Droid/Blackberry fans, is there anything that would make you consider switching to Apple’s phone?

Darren Criss makes Ellen DeGeneres an honorary Warbler

Darren Criss and his finely coiffed friends from Dalton Academy made the talk show rounds this week to promote the release of the Warblers very own album, Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers. The group stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show today to perform “Teenage Dream,” the song that first had us snapping along to their sweet voices. Afterwards Criss managed to charm the pants jacket off host Ellen DeGeneres, as the two talked about his recent road trip to Coachella with costars Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr., his brother (Chuck Criss of Freelance Whales), and his accidental snub of Gwyneth Paltrow. A true gentleman, he capped things off by presenting his fellow blazer enthusiast with the ultimate sign of achievement: her very own Warbler jacket. Check out the performance, as well as Criss’ (shirtless) anti-Blaine look from the music festival, below:  READ FULL STORY »
