There was a time — let’s call it “two weeks ago” — when the only people interested in The Human Centipede were humorous musicals writers, parodical video game constructors, eccentric foot tattoo devotees, tongue-in-cheek sock monkey manufacturers, the folks over at Funnyordie.com, and fans of extreme horror. But this twisted 2010 tale of a crazy German surgeon who stitches together three unfortunate victims to form a, yes, “human centipede” has now invaded mainstream TV comedy.

'Bill & Ted 3' screenplay actually exists, according to Bill

Keanu Reeves has been talking about the mad dream that is Bill & Ted 3 for quite some time now. Because the world is an insane place where dreams very occasionally come true, a screenplay for such a project might actually exist. Co-star Alex Winter (a.k.a. Bill S. Preston, Esq.) tweeted last night, “Just got the script. And now to read… ” (Earlier this month, Reeves indicated to MTV that writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson were “six weeks away” from a draft.) In response, William Sadler (who played Death in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey) instantly tweeted his old co-star: “Best two out of three?!!” Oh god, we’re excited. Now if only they can actually get Werner Herzog on board. (Maybe if they shoot it in 3D?)

Royal Wedding poll: Which plot point from Lifetime's 'William & Kate' do you most wish was true?

William-Kate-movie

It happened: Just six days ahead of Friday’s Royal Wedding, I found myself flipping channels Saturday night at my parents’ house, landing on Lifetime’s William & Kate right as Kate Middleton fled Prince William’s 21st birthday party. (He had invited another young woman up to help him blow out the candles.) “I’m the girl he hangs out with, not the one he brings home,” Kate said to her trailing friends, echoing the snooty mean girl who’d just assured her that William wouldn’t have time to socialize with his flatmate (who he was secretly sleeping with) at this public event. And with that, I was sucked in — not only to the rest of the movie but also to the repeat so I could see what I’d missed. You can watch William & Kate, “inspired by true events,” online now. SPOILER ALERT! The most ridiculous plot points make our poll below.  READ FULL STORY »

'Rio' impresses, but will industry box office take flight?

Categories: Movies
Rio

Hollywood is feeling blue today, but for the first time in a long time, it’s not the sad kind of blue. For the second straight weekend, Rio, the animated film about the Brazilian adventures of a rare blue macaw, was the most popular film, threatening to become that one legitimate blockbuster that can boost the entire industry. For only the third weekend this year, total weekend receipts were up compared to the comparative date in 2010.

Even though last year’s Easter weekend, which fell in the first week of April and debuted Clash of the Titans, actually crushed Rio and Madea and Co., the relatively improved showing gives the industry some hope as the first of the summer blockbusters loom. READ FULL STORY »

Nintendo will release a new, post-Wii console in 2012

Remember the GameCube? The cutest widdle videogame console, which sported a Spyro-purple paint job that made it look a little bit like an overgrown steampunk SweeTart? The GameCube debuted in 2001 and looked deliriously out of place in a moment when the videogame world was trending towards badassery (the XBox), epic swagger (the PS2), and the ability to actually play DVDs. Thanks to the GameCube, the iconic gamesmasters at Nintendo spent the first half of the decade lost in the wilderness. What a difference a generation makes: Nintendo debuted the Wii in 2006, igniting a revolution in casual gaming that paid off with an estimated 86 million devices sold worldwide. (By comparison, both the XBox 360 and the PS3 have only just sold 50 million.) Now, Nintendo has officially announced that it will debut the successor to the Wii in 2012. READ FULL STORY »

Chelsea Kane, Mark Ballas, and others (psst! Pia Toscano!) perform all-star rendition of Rebecca Black's 'Friday'

Ah, Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” The viral sensation is just like mono: It’s catchy, and just will never go away. So, today in “Friday” news, the Black hit has become a favorite amongst our Dancing With the Stars contestants, including Chelsea Kane and pro Mark Ballas, who perform their own beat-boxing version, titled “Friday (DWTS remix),” in the video embedded after the jump. Some Hidden Gems: The hula hoop hanging on the door in the background, Chelsie Hightower and Romeo, and a certain American Idol contestant who is probably not just friends with Ballas. That’s right, Pia Toscano, set to perform on the dancing reality show this week! Looks like she’s regularly kickin’ in the backseat in the DWTS studios. Check out their performance after the jump! Donald Trump on De Niro's remarks: 'I like his acting ... [but] we're not dealing with Albert Einstein'

Things are getting heated between legendary actor Robert De Niro and Apprentice host/possible presidential candidate/rich person Donald Trump. Over the weekend, the notoriously reserved actor opened up to NBC’s Brian Williams during an interview at the Tribeca Film Festival, revealing some uncharacteristically candid opinions about politics. Donald Trump corners the Meat Loaf vote

The days of scoffing at Donald Trump’s presidential ambitions are over. Everybody is saying he should run for president! Everybody! And he’s not just appealing to the quote-unquote lunatic fringe of birthers who insist the president wasn’t born in this country. No, he’s attracting support from across the reality-television political spectrum. Gary Busey, who was kicked off Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice last week, is already on-board the T.R.U.M.P. train: Taking Redirection Understanding Massive Power. Last night, Busey’s Apprentice nemesis, Meat Loaf, chimed in and also volunteered to help with Trump’s campaign. Watch the grassroots movement grow! READ FULL STORY »

Airlines to offer 3-D movies? Still no extra bag of peanuts.

Amy-Adams

I don’t fly too much, but when I do, I can be miserable to be around. My seat is too cramped, we sat on the runway for an hour, I wasn’t allowed a second bag of peanuts. I’m a grouchy flyer. Yet, in all my harumphing, I’ve never once thought to myself, Jeez, why can’t they just show Leap Year up here in 3-D! Nevertheless, according to the Hollywood Reporter, MasterImage 3D is poised to install glasses-free 3-D screens on the planes of several airlines (and in cars too).

Is 3-D entertainment really what’s missing from air travel these days? Don’t the airlines already charge you extra these days if you dare insist on carrying-on your wallet? I’m sorry that I’m not more enthusiastic about the possibilities of 3-D up in the air, as I’m a fervent fan of the technology, when done right. I’m just not sure flying at 35,000 feet is a conducive environment, and to be honest, I’d trade the 3-D perk for some extra leg room. READ FULL STORY »

'Treme' season premiere: No vampires or incest, but this still might be the weirdest show on HBO (in a good way)

Treme-Alexander

I don’t like jazz. Or at least I never thought I did. So when Treme debuted last year, my reaction was fairly similar to most people: I watched the series premiere, realized that it wasn’t The Wire, and didn’t watch again. Boy, did I miss out. I happened to check out Treme‘s second episode a couple weeks ago — thanks, On Demand! — and got hooked. I raced through the rest of Treme‘s ten-episode first season in a matter of days. The last time I binged so hardcore on a TV series was…well, when I was watching The Wire. READ FULL STORY »
